All the above named obscure #1 songs of the century are pretty good, but have we all forgotten about Taylor Hicks' "Do I Make You Proud"??????? Yes, that was a number one song…and it was so bad it permanently ended coronation songs hitting the top. I get that you're (at least partially) joking...but wasn't that also the last AI winner coronation song to be released as a physical single? not to say that "This Is My Now" would've gone to No. 1 if it had been available on CD, of course.

And now they don't even chart. The mighty certainly have fallen

Laffy Taffy, Crack a Bottle and Bump, Bump, Bump are the most irrelevant #1s of the century. I hate that Bump, Bump, Bump song because it blocked Christina's "Beautiful" and JT's "Cry me A River" from getting a #1 and #2 peak.

BBB and LT are not that bad and CAB was #1 just because of the performers. I have listened to it maybe once or twice, no idea how it goes.
Hot 100 number ones of this millennium I've never listened to: "Do I Make You Proud"
Maybe haven't missed anything

It kind of sad when the current H100 thread has more information and discussion on years-old charts and songs than what's current! I just hope "Wiggle" is out of Top 10 - I'm encouraged by dumping by radio and sliding sales. Please let the fall releases start to drop next week when we hit August.

"Heartless" got that jump but couldn't get #1 because of CAB. Much as I love Eminem, that really pissed me off. What shitty timing.

Wow, didn't realize Heartless was blocked by another rap single "Crack A Bottle"... Crack A Bottle isn't even remembered in Eminem's discography. Heartless would've jumped 3-1 that week, it'd be nice if he scored a #1 single from 808s & Heartbreak.

But then there was Phillip Phillips' "Home," which not only had a solid post-Idol week (278K sales) but went onto become the US Gymnastics theme song during the Olympics and the most successful coronation single of all time. And his season was the one in which ratings truly tanked (people often forget that there was a mild dead cat bounce/uptick for Season 10, the prior season, with the J-Lo/Steven Tyler panel and a strong group of contestants. But the bottom fell out for Phil Phil's eleventh season).

I didn't even realize that was a coronation song. It's the only one that I can remember having any sort of actual success outside of the show ending, apart from a Moment Like This.

No, digital sales were added to the Hot 100 in February of 2005, before the release of either "Inside Your Heaven" or "Do I Make You Proud" (both reached #1). To be fair, digital sales weren't that strong then, but the physical-to-digital conversion didn't immediately end coronation songs going to the top. And those songs had the same chance for strong digital sales as any other song, but the show's ratings began eroding not too long after that.

So, here are my predictions for the week:
-Rude will top
-Stay With Me will be #2 or #3
-Am I Wrong will be #3 or #4
-Wiggle and Summer will be off top 10
-Chandelier and Boom Clap will enter the top 10
-Break Free will re-enter top 20
-Everything I Didn't Say will be gone; either that, or half of the promo singles re-enter
-Really Don't Care will enter top 20
-Word Crimes will fall to the 60s or 70s
-This is How We Roll and Best Day of My Life will go recurrent
-All About That Bass and Come Get it Bae will be top 40 at the very least next week
-Dare (La La La) will crash
-Trophies has a 99.9999% chance of going recurrent, though it will most likely miss the actual chart
-I Wanna Get Better (70%), 0 to 100 (85%), Eres Mia (75%), Stolen Dance (80%), and I Will Never Let You Down (65%) all have chances to enter (which I have listed my percent certainty)

Yeah, especially since "Heartless" was one of my favorite songs from him despite the fact that I liked his older stuff (i.e. up to 2007) a lot more than his more recent stuff. and I feel like even Eminem's next one ("We Made You") was more significant than CAB, despite only peaking at #9 iirc (and it was in the debut week; the song never did return to the top ten I believe). I certainly feel like "Heartless" deserved the #1 spot more.

Since you're including songs that had not yet reached #1 as of the date of the chart, it probably isn't the record. For all we all of the songs in the top 8 now could reach #1 (sure it's extremely unlikely but still).

But oh well, I'm curious to know if anyone knows what the record is.

Idol's ratings peaked in 2007 with an average of 37.4 million viewers, and it has steadily declined every season since. The most recent season averaged 15.1 million viewers.

www.billboard.com/articles/6193578/5-seconds-of-summer-billboard-200-debut-chart-sales-sam-smith-frozen-soundtrackOver on the Digital Songs chart, Jason Aldean's "Burnin' It Down" fires up at No. 1, debuting with 184,000 downloads sold. It's Aldean's first No. 1 on Digital Songs, and his third-largest sales week (following the 189,000 debut of "Take a Little Ride" in 2012 and a 189,000 frame for "Dirt Road Anthem" in 2011). The new single previews Aldean's upcoming studio album, which will arrive before the end of the year. Aldean bumps Magic's "Rude" from the No. 1 slot, as it falls to No. 2 with 154,000 (down 21 percent). Smith's "Stay With Me" dips 2-3 with 144,000 (down 12 percent), and Iggy Azalea's "Fancy," featuring Charli XCX, slips 3-4 with 123,000 (down 21 percent). Nico & Vinz's "Am I Wrong" climbs 8-5 with 114,000 (up 18 percent), Meghan Trainor's "All About That Bass" bumps 18-6 with 103,000 (up 61 percent), and Maroon 5's "Maps" falls 6-7 with 103,000 (down 2 percent).Ariana Grande's "Problem," featuring Azalea, descends 5-8 with 100,000 (down 12 percent), Florida Georgia Line's "Dirt" moves 7-9 with 95,000 (down 3 percent), and Charli XCX's "Boom Clap" shifts 9-10 with 87,000 (down 5 percent). Digital track sales this past week totaled 19.4 million downloads, down 5 percent compared with last week (20.4 million) and down 16 percent stacked next to the comparable week of 2013 (23.2 million). Year-to-date track sales are at 674.9 million, down 13 percent compared with the same total at this point last year (775.4 million).

So "Stay With Me" beat "Fancy" everywhere except Vevo, where it was handily thwomped. It's gonna be a tight race for #2.

Those numbers for American Idol are what the seasons premiered with, not necessarily the average. Season 5 was the highest season average with 30.67 million. This season was the lowest with an average of 11.69 million. But you also have to keep in mind that broadcast television doesn't get the same amount of viewers that it got 8 years ago. #1 show doesnt break 20-25 million.

The only shows that manage to get huge ratings are the annual events: Super Bowl, Oscars, and the Grammy Awards. In the era of streaming, DVR and on-demand, live television is dying. In 2009, 83% of television was watched live. Today, that number has fallen to 63%. However, people are actually watching more television now than back then, just not in the traditional sense. The rise of cable channels like FX and AMC have also cut into the major networks audience. That's why Nielsen overnight ratings have plummeted so sharply. American Idol could possibly be the last of the so-called "fireside" television programs.

I'm pretty sure the live broadcasts only do 14-17 million (still impressive, but not 20 million)
