Another George nomination? I'm not arguing with it but there are artists who would certainly make more sense overall. Yes, his final tour was big. No, I don't think that's enough to call for an EOTY nomination.

Brandy Clark just posted this on Facebook: So very proud to be nominated by the Country Music Association for "Best New Artist" and "Best Song" for Follow Your Arrow! Very exciting morning!

Album of the Year noms were an easy guess. That was everybody's top 5 I think. I just hope Luke's album doesn't win, it was so Blah imho. I would be happy with anyone else, but Platinum and Riser get my vote. Anxiously waiting to see song of the year and single of the year

The vocal group award is a absolute toss up this year, compared to year's past. EYB had an underwhelming album (in sales) come out, "Dust" has been struggling to even reach Top 15. "Drunk Last Night" wasn't big enough to win this award. LBT has been quiet most of the year, after "Sober" didn't do much. IMO "Day Drinking" is struggling more than they anticipated. It definately is not the Pontoon 2.0 they were hoping for. The Band Perry also I believe underwhelmed with 3rd and 4th singles, they need material with more substance than just Kimberly being pissed off at some guy in every song. All their songs have almost the same theme. ZBB hasn't done much either, took a detour with a Dave Grohl produced EP, even though i LOVE "All Alright", its struggling too. They haven't announced another project yet
I guess this is Lady A's year for this award. With "Compass" and "Bartender" both going #1, decent tour #'s etc. What y'all think?

at Carrie getting the same amount of nominations in her "off" year as last year... Thank you, Miranda. I think Carrie and Miranda have Video on lock.

Uh, the nominations this year are GREAT! I'll post more thoughts on them in a bit, but I'm stoked about this. "Follow Your Arrow", "You Can't Make Old Friends", Brandy Clark, minimal FLAGA, etc. I'm thrilled beyond words.

Shocked by the absence of "My Eyes" for Vocal Event. That seemed like a lock! Incredibly happy for Brandy Clark. Didn't even see her as a remote possibility. Also nice to see Dierks over Aldean for MV. That's very well deserved. I had Dierks' 6th in my power rankings. He's indeed had a huge year.

Dierks Bentley should win every category he's in. But chances are that he won't.
Luke Bryan should win entertainer of the year but chances are they'll give it to George again.
Kacey Musgraves should win female vocalist but we all know that isn't happening.

Overall Pulse was:
3 for 5 for Entertainer 4 for 5 for Male 4 for 5 for Female 5 for 5 for Group! 4 for 5 for Duo 5 for 5 for Album! 1 for 5 for Single (although we did have votes for all five :) ) 3 for 5 for Song (again, votes for all five) 3 for 5 for Collaboration 3 for 5 for Video (votes for all five)

My early thoughts:
-Wow the CMA's are anti-bro. FGL only got one nomination, the same amount as Brandy Clark. Luke only got nominations in the categories you had to nominate him in, and the two which had some of the biggest songs of the year went 0-for in Single, Song, Collaboration and Video. I think it sends a strong message to the bro-country genre.
-Basically if you take half a year off you get no nominations, I do not care if you are selling out arenas, Jason Aldean. Big F*** You to Broken Bow Group, which I count only getting one nomination across the board.
- New artist of the year has its highs and lows in the category. Cannot believe Brandy Clark got a nom, but it also features bro'ers Cole and Thomas. I see the CMA's giving it to semi-bro Brett Eldredge. Cassadee Pope was a miss here on the CMA's side. I think it would have gotten the awards some attention due to her success on the Voice.
-Snubs: Jason Aldean, FGL, Cassadee Pope, Sara Evans, Brad Paisley
-Feeling Good this AM: Brandy Clark, Kacey Musgraves, Dierks Bentley, Vince Gill
-Popular TV shows get you Entertainer of the Year noms (Blake Shelton and Keith Urban), Unpopular TV shows give you nothing (Brad Paisley)
-Have a feeling we are about to experience another Miranda night. Mark my words.

Mark my words. No complaints about a Miranda year this year. She stood out among the competition, and released the best music of the big name artists nominated. She absolutely deserves every nomination, and I fully expect her to win at least four.

"Follow Your Arrow", "You Can't Make Old Friends", Brandy Clark, minimal FLAGA, etc. I'm thrilled beyond words. YAY thoughts: -EOTY: George Strait's nom is silly and ridiculous. Sorry, don't care if he's "The King". I really hope he doesn't win because he doesn't deserve it. Awarding his legacy over people that have done MUCH more than he has this year would be ridiculous. Pulling for Miranda or Keith (yay for him!!) in this category. -FVOTY: lol, hi Martina! No surprise on the other 4 noms. Miranda will win. 5th year is on lock, and deservedly so. -MVOTY: Keith please. Dierks made it in! -Duo: . -Group: I think this'll be the year TBP finally gets that win. Lady A and LBT could pose threats, but LBT hasn't seen a ton of action this year. Lady A's "Bartender" high could lift them to another win, but TBP has had the biggest year of these 5 (except for maybe ZBB, but they won't win). -Song: FOLLOW YOUR ARROW :') I think "Automatic" will win, but yay for Kacey! -Single: Again, Ran will likely win. Unless they want to give Blake SOMETHING. -Album: it's going to be a big night for Ran. -New Artist: Weren't Kip and Brett nominated last year, too? Silly. I think this could go in any direction, but I would LOVE to see Brandy Clark get that win. So happy for her nomination!! -Musical Event: Dolly/Kenny I don't know who will win this one because I think the two ML duets could split-vote each other out, leaving a win for Tim/Faith, but obviously I'm pulling for ML & CU. -Video: FYA's video was a dud, but I'm glad it got such recognition this year! Hoping for SB to win, though. Easily the best of the year, bar none.

I freaking love that Vocal Event includes Faith/Tim and Kenny/Dolly. It's so refreshing to see Kenny and Dolly on the nomination list. I'm kinda hoping Dolly and Kenny win, for old time's sake. I'd be happy with any song winning in that category, though. The nominations are STELLAR this year, I have no complaints!

Really strong year this year and they left the wtf-ness to a minimum. The one thing that jumped out at me was the nonexistence of Jason Aldean, but I wouldn't change anything to include him. And now that others mentioned it, the lack of FGL is a bit surprising after the big year they've had. It's going to be a Miranda show again this year and I can't complain about it at all.
I'm not well versed on the long history of the CMAs, but has a whole album been nominated in the Musical Event category before like it was with Bakersfield this year?

I was actually pleasantly surprised about the quality (IMO of course) of the nominees this fall.
First off, FGL getting completely shut out except for the one category that was pretty much mandatory they'd be nominated made a smile creep across my face.
Secondly, the "Top New Artist" category for the CMA and ACM's once again boggle the mind about their criteria. Kip Moore's debut single was well over 3 years ago and his first hit was over two years - Plus if there was ever a time for him to not be in this category was this year since he only had one top 25 single and another flame out single with no new album. But that was overshadowed by the inclusion of Brandy Clark which was a total shock. The fact Kacey got many nods, including "Follow Your Arrow" was awesome, though didn't surprise me all that much. Brandy's nod did, and I couldn't be happier about that.
I was never huge into the ACM or CMA's, though the nominees I was very pleased by and gives a glimer of hope.

Good:
- Brandy Clark for new artist. Hell. Yes. - Dierks love. Yay! - FYA for song, awesomeness.
Bad:
- Minimal FGL. Say what you will, they were the hottest thing outside of Luke this year and deserved FAR more than what they got.
- Aldean shutout. Very, very odd.
- Kip Moore new artist. Wtf? Did nothing this year, would have given that slot to Pope or D+S
- Martina over Cassadee in female. *sigh*
Surprised by "I Don't Dance" for song but I'm okay with it.

Jason shutout entirely. Very, very odd. Success doesn't equate to quality, and the quality of FGL's material paled in comparison to the other nominees severely. They got their token nod and will likely walk away with the win, but they didn't deserve much more than what they got.

Of course you have to look at quality, but when you have been as successful as they were, you'd think they'd get more than the token duo nod. They certainly had a bigger year than George did.

I agree with you on the success front. I thought they were EOTY locks, but it seems as though this year, the CMAs went with quality over quantity, which is great to see.
