Interestingly, I would consider the last year or so to have the LEAST features since the late 90s.
Matter of fact, EVERY SINGLE week from 12/2/00 through 11/24/12, The Hot 100 top 10 had at least one featuring song.

What's with the features is year all of a sudden in pop music? Not just with single releases but in albums as well. Hell some of these albums are over 50% feature credits, esp Ariana and J.Lo's latest efforts. Look at JLo's Hits album 9 of 13 tracks on std had features and THAT didn't include 2 of her Top 10s #1 AIH and #10 IGBA, which were features. That's probably the most extreme hits package I can recall - especially from a "pop" singer. Regardless, features don't bother me when they add to the record - a lot of the top Pop hits during the past couple of years have worked for me. It's ones like Drake/Rihanna WMN that irk me. You can snip off Drake's part at beginning, which was tacked on, and the song stands on its own because he never really returns.

music.yahoo.com/blogs/chart-watch/chart-watch-the-return-of-t-i-024047712.htmlChart Watch: The Return Of T.I.By Paul Grein, Yahoo! Chart Watch T.I. lands his 28th top 40 hit (and his first since his featured role on Robin Thicke’s megahit “Blurred Lines”) as “No Mediocre” (featuring Iggy Azalea) jumps from #47 to #40 in its eighth week on the Hot 100. Another T.I. song, “About The Money” (featuring Yung Thug) debuts at #99. Both songs are from the rapper’s upcoming ninth studio album, Paperwork: The Motion Picture. This week’s big chart news is Nicki Minaj pulling ahead of Michael Jackson on Billboard's list of artists with the most Hot 100 hits. Her “Anaconda” is the week's top new entry at #18. It's her 51st Hot 100 hit, which allows her to push past MJ, who has amassed 50 chart hits. How can this be? We posted a Chart Watch blog answering just that question earlier today. If you missed it, here's a link. And here’s a link to another Chart Watch blog about other key moves in the top 10. This blog will cover the rest of the chart. Three songs edge closer to the top 10 this week. “Bailando” by Enrique Iglesias featuring Descemer Bueno & Gente de Zona jumps from #13 to #12 in its 15th week. “Rather Be” by Clean Bandit featuring Jess Glynne jumps from #16 to #13 in its ninth week. “Black Widow” by Iggy Azalea featuring Rita Ora jumps from #19 to #15 in its sixth week. This would be the sixth top 10 hit for Iglesias, the first for Clean Bandit and the third for Azalea. "Dark Horse" by Katy Perry featuring Juicy J rebounds from #23 to #16 in its 47th week. Perry would probably prefer that attention shift to her new single, “This Is How We Do,” though it also does well this week, jumping from #88 to #66 in its second week. Jason Aldean's “Burnin' It Down” holds at #22 for the second week. It debuted and peaked two weeks ago at #12. It's #1 on Hot Country Songs for the third week … “Don't Tell 'Em” by Jeremih featuring YG jumps from #30 to #26 in its seventh week. "Meanwhile Back At Mama’s" by Tim McGraw featuring Faith Hill jumps from #55 to #41 in its 11th week … Ed Sheeran's “Don't” leaps from #69 to #50 in its ninth week. The song has climbed as high as #46 … Cole Swindell's “Hope You Get Lonely Tonight” leaps from #75 to #59 in its eighth week. "Small Town Throwdown" by Brantley Gilbert featuring Justin Moore and Thomas Rhett makes this week’s biggest numerical jump, jumping from #93 to #68 in its ninth week. All eyes will be on this record to see if it beats Miley Cyrus's “Hoedown Throwdown,” which reached #18 in May 2009. You could call this a “Throwdown Throwdown.” Bobby Shmurda's jumps from #96 to #72 in its second week. He's a rapper from Brooklyn. Little Big Town's “Day Drinking” jumps from #100 to #78 in its third week. Jack & Jack's “Wild Life” is the week's second highest new entry at #87. The viral hit is a hop-hop song, which borrows heavily from “Wiggle” by Jason Derulo featuring Snoop Dogg. "Fireball" by Pitbull featuring John Ryan is the week’s third highest new entry at #93. It’s from his upcoming album Globalization. The Fireballs had a 1958 song titled “Fireball.” Eric Church's “Cold One” is the week's fourth highest new entry at #96. It's the third single from The Outsiders … Eli Young Band's “Dust” re-enters the chart at #100. The song has climbed as high as #99.

“This Is How We Do,” though it also does well this week, jumping from #88 to #66 in its second week.
Wow this was unexpected, how did it happen? Was the increase in sales and streaming this significant?

Soon we'll be correcting the amount of #1s Rihanna has...and Nicki Minaj pulling ahead of Michael Jackson should never be talked about in that way as there is no comparison in their song catalog.
What caused "Dark Horse" to rebound?

And KP hater, PG, slammed the "low" chart position without mentioning that it charted two weeks before add date and on strength of three days of streaming. The fact that it's 66 the week before adss is a good sign for Katy. It's also been picking up steam at digital

LOL at Dark Horse returning to the top 20. It was just teasing us last week when we thought it finally dropped out of the top 20 for good.
