Not hearing anything this new single in the UK ? . The label really messed it up in Europe after the huge success of SomL . I hope they get it right this time , but it is already looking shambolic . Yes, they did incredibly bad. SOML was big, it's (in my opinion) their best song and video, it has a grown up sound, but they didn't capitalize the success in the way they should

I like it but it's definitely their weakest first single.
Zayn is flawless per usual.

At least they will be busy soon. Free time is not good for some of them, Liam has been a PR nighmare lately

Damn I love this!!! Smash!!! I love the harmonies, the lyrics, the production is so tight! Seeing 1D tonight for the 2nd night in a row in NC! I wonder if they'll mention the leak tonight.

Why is a formal "review" being written like a fangirl? Why does it make not only make no mention of the blatant "inspiration" the song took from Journey's Faithfully but talk about some similarity to Elton John?

Not as bad as I was expecting based on what I've read above, but not really my type of song either. I don't know why their management insists channeling Journey or Bon Jovi is the way to go...
That said, this is sing-along by nature and more "mature" than songs like "Best Song Ever" or "Live While We're Young" so I see it doing reasonably well for them.

Hmmmm... I like it. The initial disappointment seems similar to when "Story of My Life" came out.

Hmmmm... I like it. The initial disappointment seems similar to when "Story of My Life" came out. While Mumford Direction had me fooled for a second, I always liked that one instantly. My gripe with "Steal My Girl" is its influence from 80's stadium rock bands; I've never cared for past songs of theirs that dipped into that style either. It's hardly what you feel like hearing on contemporary radio in 2014.

Yeah trying to sound like an 80's hair band power ballad is about the last direction I would have recommended for them right now. Extremely strange musical route for them to take now, and even more bizarre to release as the first single. The whole album better not be like this...

Well, their first singles always peak high on billboard due to sales but Best song ever and Live while we're young weren't exactly big hits on radio even when both started really big.
I doubt this will do better.
They seem to not find a sound, and this is not a problem now that they are extremely popular, but it could be. Boybands usually fall from grace when nobody expected, and every new album is a challenge.
I think the new times with all the social media play in their favour (in the same way it played in favour of Bieber in the past), but if they don't find a coherent sound and a way to transition to an adult vocal group or into a proper pop band, their days are numbered. That if they don't split first, i don't think the will tolerate being so controlled as they are now for a long time. At least they seem to not have problems with each other, wich is generally the main motivation in groups break ups.
Anyway, even if the single won't be big (and i think at least at first it will be) it's their album sales what makes the group big. In terms of single success they are very very far from the big boybands of the past

I really like it actually, but I also have been listening to a lot of 80's songs recently too. #Coincidence?
Anyways, it's been stuck in my head for a while now!!!

80s is trending back again. 1D is on the edge of it. I say its smart marketing.

Yeah, 1D should be dying down by now. I can't think of any boyband who remained popular this long into their career (not counting the Beatles).
I think the one reason they're not falling is because they aren't the internet's butt monkey like Bieber was. It's causing less backlash, and their likeable personalities is helping them maintain a positive image. They're holding up exceptionally well against 5SOS, and although 5SOS are popular aren't having the same big breakout that 1D had, and they have a still overlapping fanbase. That's impressive considering Bieber got his butt kicked when 1D challenged his spot as the top teen idol.

What people don't seem to realize is Bieber was popular in late 2012/early 2013. Then he got awful publicity because he's a little prick, and then released a boring album that got no one's attention... so I really don't think that it's fair to say he's "over", he hasn't even released a new single since "BAAB".
Also, One Direction doesn't show signs of slowing down. They just sold out a stadium tour... I mean, I see them going for a few more years tbh. They seem like they can do it now that social media is a present factor in today's music business.

No signs here of slowing thats for sure. I'm at the stage too!

I can't hear the song. It keeps coming up as an error when I go to play the song.

With all the 80s music inspiring today's hits, this song channels the decade in a way that few have so far with the semi-hair metal sound so in that sense, it could really win them points because it'll stand out from the 80s synth-pop and stuff.

Ehhhh. The verses are good, but the chorus is stupid. The lyrics are dumb and the melody isn't that great. The also 80s-inspired song "Shut Up and Dance" by WALK THE MOON is far superior to this. Though they're both different styles.

Bieber is over. Literally nobody likes him but his remaining fans. He got booed just for walking out on stage at Fashion Rocks. Public perception of him is in the toilet and I can't see radio jumping on any of his future singles.
He's releasing a duet album now with Cody Simpson, I mean....
