But why should she stop? The music industry isn't a fairness game where everyone gets an equal shot. If you have the chops and knowhow to be successful, then you do it or you fail. Why would Taylor and her team suddenly stop promoting singles from 1989 right now? There's nothing to gain from that. Artists and their music are a commodity in a business. It would be like saying McDonald's has had a stronghold on the industry for enough time, they should step down and let In-N-Out have a chance. No. That just doesn't happen because that's not how a business is run. And the reason radio is infatuated with her is because she has already proven to be a success. The "had anyone else done this song, it wouldn't gain attention" argument I see floating around from time to time is stupid. Of course that's correct because that's how the music industry works! Radio walks a fine line. They have to pay royalties for playing a song, and they earn money off of advertisements. They charge to run ads, but they charge based on listening habits. If you start playing a song no one cares for, your number of listeners goes down, you can no longer charge the same price for ads, companies begin to not want to even advertise with you because you don't reach a big audience anymore, and suddenly the station is off the air forever. Taylor Swift is a low-risk artist. She's already proven herself, very recently, to have been successful, so the risk of adding her new single is next to none. The risk of adding the new Jane Doe song, on the other hand, is very risky as she has never had a hit before, and there's no reason to suspect this one to do so. That's where things like callout scores come into play as well as promotion. When Jane Doe's scores begin to trickle in and it shows people are actually into her song, it starts to take off as the risk of adding it lowers. Nah, I'm with Hefty Hanna on this one. "Out of the Woods" is a good song, and a great single choice that will likely happen, but "Wildest Dreams" is the epitome of the album that I wouldn't necessarily expect to be a single, though always wishing for it, just like "All Too Well" and "Enchanted." "Out of the Woods," to me, is more in line with "22" and "Mean" as songs that are good that were likely to be singles (and they were). aight u taking this way to serious lmao no one told you to write a whole novel. I aint reading that. I never told her to stop cos lord knows she aint. I'm sorry for trying to explain the music industry to you on a music board? Anyway, this is still gaining on iTunes and it now at 0.4622 to Bieber, who is falling with dark red updates! "Can't Feel My Face" is also in the red, though it's not losing a whole lot.

I think her only shot at #1 on the Hot 100 is releasing the remix when airplay is at its peak. Tho Bieber will also be high and have higher sales and Spotify, so I'm not sure it will work. And by then, something else big could potentially come along and be really big like WDYM.
So in what scenarios could this possibly get to #1?

Sorry for the off-topic tho, i just needed to let that out lol! But you can't say that media represents Africa and people in the same light that others In that Kahn's tweet even the fact that he says "shooting video in AFRICA" instead of mentioning specific country is just so WRONG

Glad he is acknowledging that himself then
And I don't dislike the video, it's better than Bad Blood imo (not as good as BS though)

"Wildest Dreams" takes in 178 adds this week, which breaks Janet Jackson's CHR record (PPW era) of 176 for "All For You" on R&R in 2001. Slay me new God with the greatest song of all time

This whole thing about no black people being in the video was a TV news in my country. Global queen In the end reporters said "Wow, what a beautiful video though".

The 'racist' video buzz was brilliantly played by the label. What better way to get TONS of extra views than stirring up a false controversy for a pretty boring video. Unlike BS or, even SIO, there's nothing in the S/L to get me to watch again - it way to linear. But NOW, I bet others who felt like I do, will be replaying it and analyzing it. It is a master stroke by her machine.

The "controversy" that this video is stirring up is absolutely ridiculous.
People are really just reaching at this point.

I think he means storyline? I dunno tho. Correct - S/L = Storyline. Just because I find the video to be linear and a bit boring doesn't mean it wasn't well done. This is Taylor, of course, and she sets an incredibly high bar. I do wish the radio remix was available for purchase - it gives the song just the right punch without being a complete overhaul.

It is completely wild that this song is having such huge updates being the FIFTH single from the album with no re-release, etc...

It isn't that wild. Many artists nowadays put out complete shit. (Maybe) 4 good radio singles, and then 8 filler tracks only hardcores care about. Taylor created an incredible album, and it's one of the best pop albums in history.

I think this song is begging for a dance remix. Not to replace the original single for those of you who are about to scream "the original is fine as it is," but to complement the original and add a different dimension to the song. I can basically hear the potential dance remixes in my head and they are all fire.

Okay, as much as I hate to admit it because I'm the furthest from being a Taylor Swift fan but this video is exquisite. Probably one of my favorite music videos in recent memory. The only slight annoyance is her acting inability in a couple of the angry/dramatic scenes but otherwise I like the story and cinematography.

I wonder if it's that time of the era... the media getting sick of loving Taylor and starting to trash her again. Kind of. I just think that she's become so big that people know that they can use her for their own agenda. Anything they say is going to get a lot of people's attention. I mean, clearly it's unfortunate what happened in Africa, but to try to criticize Taylor for this is just crazy. But, now you have people talking about it.
