YourFaveIsAFlop Fancy Soldado de Juguete nivekwriter1 heyhey21 Adonia popstopIf you would like to not be tagged in the future, please just let me know! | 80 Tove Lo Habits (Stay High) 88.164 points | Debut: August 31 Peak: #6; November 9 Run: 36-26-24-14-13-14-11-7-8-8-6-11-13-15... Favorite Line: "Make it fast and greasy, I'm numb and way too easy" | I first discovered the Hippie Sabotage remix to "Habits" after seeing it have "Sail"-type longevity on the lower regions of the iTunes Top 100. It took me a few listens, but the remix grew on me and grew to also be a big hit on my chart, peaking in the top ten and lasting over 20 weeks! A couple months into the remix's run is when I finally heard the original version of the song. I love both versions of the song quite a bit. They both have qualities that I love about them that make them unique. I honestly couldn't choose which one I like better, but "Habits" does rank lower due to timing. However, "Habits" did peak higher than "Stay High." Weird. | | 79 Ciara Overdose 88.874 points | Debut: cont'd from 2013 Peak: #7; December 15 Run: ...10-10-7-12-11-12-14-16-14-21-24-25-38-35-36 Favorite Line: "You're like a hurricane inside my veins" | "Overdose" landed just inside the top 100 last year and now lands just inside the top 80. Unfortunately, this is the case for many songs from the October-March time period where parts of their runs are cut off. "Overdose" is one of the few Ciara songs that I've liked since The Evolution era. "Overdose" is a perfect blend of r&b and pop in a slick, dance and beat driven tune. Honestly, "Overdose" was one of the better pop songs to come out of 2013, and it's a shame so much was against it from its release, as I'm sure it would have been her first pop hit since "Love Sex Magic." | | 78 Jason Derülo Snoop Dogg Wiggle 89.556 points | Debut: May 25 Peak: #17; July 6-July 13 Run: 32-22-25-23-24-21-17-17-22-24-27-29-33-36-39 Favorite Line: "Go 'head and go ham sammich!" | "Wiggle" was the first Jason Derülo song to capture my attention since "Ridin' Solo"! I know it's a pretty sexist song about how great a woman's butt is, but God damn, the production on this is so good! (Also, I am an "ass man," so, yeah...) That flute thing in the chorus is infectious. Snoop lays a pretty odd verse in the middle. Kind of disturbing, actually, but whatever. It's not like this song is well known for its glorious lyrics. Kudos to Derülo for making a derogative song I can really get into. The song unfortunately suffered a high burn rate for me. Honestly, when it first started charting, I was pegging it as a future number one! Whoops, haha! | | 77 Nicki Minaj Anaconda 92.675 points | Debut: August 31 Peak: #6; October 19/October 26 Run: 29-31-19-11-10-9-8-6-7-6-7-8-7-13... Favorite Line: "So I pulled up in the Jag, Mayweather with the jab like dun-d-d-dun-dun-d-d-dun-dun" | And the ass songs continue! Nicki did it better a few months later with "Anaconda," inspired by the "my anaconda don't want none unless you got buns hun" line from "Baby Got Back," in which it also borrows the instrumentation. God damn this song is so good! Nicki's verses SLAY with that slick flow! Then the bass drops in the "oh my gosh!" part, and I just go totally white girl. I have two very fond memories involving this song. The first one was my 20th birthday. It was the first weekend back at college, and four of my really close guy friends came over to the dorm and we had a nice "YAY we get to see each other again" party that just so happened to land on my birthday. We drank a little too much and ended up having a twerk off to this. The second memory was rapping the entire first verse while awaiting our final football game to start to a fellow trumpet player. It was his last game. :( Anyway, this song is dope. I don't care if it's novelty or whatever, I love it and you all will deal. (Also 3:50 to the end is possibly my favorite moment of hip-hop in 2014.) | | 76 Ariana Grande Zedd Break Free 93.067 points | Debut: August 24 Peak: #5; October 26-November 2 Run: 33-26-20-11-10-12-7-7-9-5-5-12-15-23-26... Favorite Line: "I only wanna die alive, never by the hands of a broken heart" | I'll admit, the first time I heard this song, I was completely underwhelmed. I had LOVED "Problem," but this was a generic dance pop thing to me. Eventually, though, it grew on me and became a top five hit! It's weird how a lot of my big hits do that. This is also the first Zedd song to catch my attention since "Clarity" in the summer of 2013. When he's at his best, the dude can really produce some great dance pop. Also, Ariana's vocals kind of slay on dance pop. I mean, she's amazingly talented in general, but that whistle over that dance beat is so good! Beats anything from her debut by far. And let's give it up for that epic outro! | | 75 Lily Allen Hard Out Here 93.318 points | Debut: January 12 Peak: #12; March 16 Run: 39-27-27-27-20-21-18-16-16-12-14-16-15-32-40 Favorite Line: "Forget your balls and grow a pair of tits" | Lily Allen has always been intruiging to me. I love her witty, in-your-face lyrics. Her second album was so goddamn good. She finally came back to release her third this year. While the album as a whole disappointed me, the singles generally were really good. "Hard Out Here," the lead, is such a fun tune! It's a child-like melody with a child-like instrumental, but the song is such a complete satire on how women are perceived in the media. Only Lily Allen would talk about tits being stronger than balls and then turn around and call herself a bitch, but meaning it in a good way. Like, what? It's such a shame this never really caught on. It was catchy as hell and had a really good message presented in a unqiue manner. Lord knows I quoted that line several times this year. Bitch. | | 74 Zendaya My Baby 93.579 points | Debut: March 2 Peak: #17; April 27 Run: 39-38-29-32-19-25-21-10-9-13-15-14-27-36-37-40 Favorite Line: "Like 2 Chainz, baby, I'm different" | "My Baby" followed the pop perfection, "Replay," from Zendaya's debut album. This song is much more r&b than "Replay," but it has a nice beat. It sounds a lot like that Sean Kingston song "Beat It," but the melody of the chorus in this is far superior. I really like how the song just keeps this swanky, finger-snapping, foot-tapping beat throughout the entire song. It doesn't build to anything, but rather stay consistant, and for some songs, that works, and this is one of those times. Also, I love how Zendaya is slightly out of time in parts to make the song drag. Specifically here: "Here we go agaiiiinnnn... youknowyouwanna be my baby." | | 73 Imagine Dragons Tiptoe 94.448 points | Debut: July 6 Peak: #16; September 7 Run: 39-35-32-27-26-23-22-18-18-16-20-25-27-29-33-40-38-40 Favorite Line: "Take some time to simmer down, keep your head down low" | "Tiptoe" was easily my second favorite track off of Night Visions after "Radioactive," so upon hearing it being performed at the BMAs, I was so excited to start charting it! Something about this song is so captive. It takes you on a journey and empowers you, but I'm not quite sure why. I also really love how this song is sung. How the vocals get higher in "tiptoe higher," for example. And my favorite line. "Take some time to" is stressed so well on the downbeat followed by a smooth and high note "simmer down, keep your head down low." It's just a really well done song! Too bad it was never pushed as an actual single. Would have smashed! | | 72 Avril Lavigne Chad Kroeger Let Me Go 94.658 points | Debut: cont'd from 2013 Peak: #4; December 29 Run: ...9-15-9-8-4-5-9-8-11-17-18-26-36-37-39 Favorite Line: "And two goodbyes led to this new life" | For some reason, Avril's last single from her latest album (not counting the controversy driven "Hello Kitty"). After sifting through "Here's to Never Growing Up" and "Rock N Roll," it was so refreshing to hear Avril give us this soft rock sound we all definitely miss from her! This is definitely one of Avril's best songs in quite a long time! I could do without the Chad Kroeger duet, but whatever. It's fine. Also, I'm a HUGE sucker for waltz pop ballads, and this is no exception. And that bass line is so, so good. The piano outro is gorgeous as well. Especially when Avril's vocals softly are added back in. I absolutely HATE that this was never released to pop radio and only the ACs. This had so much potential to be Avril's biggest hit in years! Gah! | | 71 Miley Cyrus Wrecking Ball 95.589 points | Debut: cont'd from 2013 Peak: #1; December 1-December 8 Run: 1-1-4-5-9-13-18-19-23-30-29-35-37-36-37 Favorite Line: "Don't you ever say I just walked away, I will always want you" | Like "Overdose," "Wrecking Ball" is split between two years. It landed just outside the top 20 last year and this year lands at #71. Such a shame. The song was a massive success for me. It lasted a record setting 10 weeks at the number one position! A record that it still holds, tied with Clean Bandit's "Rather Be." "Wrecking Ball" is... just... wonderful. It's so beautifully crafted. Miley's vocals are so fucking incredible here. The production is amazing. That bass line almost brought tears to my eyes the first time I heard this song. The lyrics are fantastic. Words can't describe how excited I was to see this become the massive hit it became, becoming Miley's bigges hit of her career so far. It's incredibly deserving. I mean, when the song dies away in the bridge, revealing the pain and truthfulness Miley certainly had when creating this song, and then it swells into this massive power ballad ending... It's the definition of a masterpiece. |
| 40 Maroon 5 185.710 points | Tracks This Year: Lucky Strike - #21 Animals - #7 Top Recurrents This Year: 1) Love Somebody - 7.620 points 2) Come Away to the Water/The Man Who Never Lied - 2.286 points | Maroon 5 started off the year with the conclusion of their Overexposed era and continued with the release of their new album, V. I loved Overexposed a lot, but I'm very disappointed with V. It did give us "Animals," though, which became a hit for me. Maroon 5 is very hit or miss with me. Their music is some weird rock/pop/contemporary fusion, and that can be a pretty boring combination at times, giving us middle-of-the-road radio filler such as "Maps" from this year. Sometimes, they give us some good material, though. Adam Levine himself has a unqiue voice, and his vision for the band is intruiging, and this is why I keep Maroon 5 on my radar. | | 39 Pitbull 185.941 points | Tracks This Year: Timber - #1 Top Recurrents This Year: 1) Future Love (Remix) - 1.524 points 2) literally every other song on my iPod with him - 0.762 points | Our lord and savior has arrived at #39! For real, though, he's pretty much only here thanks to "Timber," which is pretty much mostly Ke$ha. So... yeah... Pitbull is in everything these days. 95% of time, it's terrible. "Timber" is part of that special 5%. | | 38 Ed Sheeran 188.536 points | Tracks This Year: Everything Has Changed - #36 All of the Stars - #34 Don't - #3 | I can honestly say that I'm not a fan. His debut album just did nothing for me in the slightest. However, I did really like his part in Taylor Swift's "Everything Has Changed." Then he wowed me with his addition to the The Fault in Our Stars soundtrack with a pretty catchy and beautiful tune, "All of the Stars." Then he completely shocked me when he layed down "Don't," a song that is very Jason Mraz, but it still sounded fresh and became a big hit for me. While x didn't make me fan, it definitely is a huge improvement on his last album, and Sheeran will now be on my radar! | | 37 Rita Ora 197.000 points | Tracks This Year: Black Widow - #1 | Rita Ora is here because of "Black Widow." She adds nothing to the music industry, IMO, except to be the poor man's Rihanna. I would say she at least has better vocals than Rihanna, but she's generally just really bland. A vanilla Rihanna, if you will. Good on her for placing this high, though. | | 36 Jessie J 204.643 points | Tracks This Year: Magnetic - #15 Bang Bang - #2 Top Recurrents This Year: 1) Domino - 6.096 points 2) Do It Like a Dude/Price Tag - 2.286 points | Jessie J continues to surprise me with her material. She is such an amazing talent and I would say she is one of the best vocalists out there right now. However, her material continues to range from bland as af to incredible. Most of her chart points this year come from "Bang Bang," a throwback tune featuring Ariana Grande and Nicki Minaj. The song became one of the year's biggest hits for me and everywhere else. I have checked out her Sweet Talker album, and it's not bad. Most of it just sounds like filler, though, and it sounds like it's everywhere. If Jessie J could just find her sound and continue to slay with her vocals, she can become one of the big "it" artists, but until then, looks like we'll just have to keep sifting through her duds to find her gems. |

Great to see Anaconda, Tiptoe, Ciara, Habits, and Wiggle charting. Also great to see Ed and Pitbull on your artists list. Great list so far.

Habits, Wiggle, Break Free (THAT OUTRO ;_;), Hard Out Here, My Baby (Definitely here the Beat It comparisons, but this is miles better!), Let Me Go (It wasn't released to pop? Oh good, I thought it just flopped... why didn't they release it tho?!?!?), and Wrecking Ball (OMG *tears up*) Already in love with your list!!! CANNOT WAIT FOR THE REST! Glad to hear Ed Sheeran is now on your radar, you should check out Thinking Out Loud if you haven't already!

YourFaveIsAFlop Fancy Soldado de Juguete nivekwriter1 heyhey21 Adonia popstopIf you would like to not be tagged in the future, please just let me know! | 70 Passenger Let Her Go 95.637 points | Debut: December 8 Peak: #11; February 9 Run: 37-35-36-27-21-20-17-17-12-11-14-15-20-26-30-35 Favorite Line: "Maybe one day you'll understand why everything you touch surely dies" | This was one of those songs that took a long time to grow on me, and I ended up getting into it a bit late in its run, but that seemed to be a common thing this year for some reason. I think what kept me from "Let Her Go" was Passenger's vocals. It took me a while to get past the whole "sounds way too much like James Blunt" thing. Eventually, though, the song grew on me and had pretty decent longevity despite never reaching the top ten. Something about this song is just the right combination of ease, pain, softness, loudness, it all just works so well. I personally love the added violin in the second verse. It really brings out the emotion of the song. A fond memory I have of this song is over the semester, I would try to learn this song on piano in my keyboarding class. I eventually learned the melody of the intro/chorus, and in the process annoyed my friends with it. Yay! | | 69 Katy Perry This Is How We Do 99.258 points | Debut: August 10 Peak: #8; September 28-October 5 Run: 38-26-28-21-17-14-12-8-8-10-10-12-23-28-30-33-37... Favorite Line: "Sucking real bad at Mariah Carey-oke" | "This Is How We Do" is the final single to one of the oddest eras ever, Katy Perry's PRISM era. Riddled with oddball single choices and weird release tactics, the final single was no exception to the weirdness. "Do" was a terrible single choice, but whatever, I do like the song despite its quirks. The song is very monotone, but for a song like this, it kind of works. I do wish it used a bit more melody, but I'm not complaining. I know a lot of people hate the whole talking bridge, but it's personally what makes the song for me. Katy's quirky personality shines brightly in it. Espcially in the "Wait. What? No no no no! Bring the beat back!" part! The instrumental outro that follows is flawless. | | 68 Colbie Caillat Hold On 100.019 points | Debut: January 12 Peak: #10; March 23 Run: 35-25-26-20-22-19-17-15-11-10-11-12-12-24-38 Favorite Line: "We had a fire, need a spark, or we'll never last" | "Hold On" may be one of, if not my favorite Colbie Caillat song. Which is weird since it had a peak of "only" #10. It was one of those songs that I got burnt out on as it reached the top ten, and then it died quickly because of that. But a few months later, I listened to it again, and it sounded better and fresher than ever! "Hold On" is a breath of fresh air to me. It's got this sense of electronic sound, but couples it with this booming acoustic set behind it, and it just comes off as this mystical, magical piece of artistry. Especially on the harmonized vocals on the "oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh"s. It really saddens me that this never took off. It should have been one of Colbie's biggest hits. | | 67 Ellie Goulding Mirror 101.184 points | Debut: December 8 Peak: #12; December 15/January 26 Run: 30-12-18-14-15-13-15-12-18-16-15-24-32-35-37-38 Favorite Line: "If I'm really a winner, where do these demons come from?" | The run of "Mirror" is bizarre. It made a HUGE leap in its second week from 30 to 12, but that ended up being its peak and it lingered in the 11-20 range forever, only returning to #12 over a month later. Despite "Mirror" not making the top ten, I would label it as one of my favorite songs of 2014 simply because it's so hauntingly beautiful and quite possibly the best song Ellie Goulding has ever blessed out ears with. The song gives this almost surreal feeling of floating in a dark abyss and then suddenly you see a small speck of dull, orange light that continues to get brighter and brighter, bursting into flames as the song progresses. It's such a magical sounding piece. It of course is from the Catching Fire soundtrack, and this ended up being my absolute favorite from the soundtrack as well as being the soundtrack's biggest hit for me. I believe Ellie captured the feel of the film and book perfectly in this masterpiece. | | 66 Shakira Blake Shelton Medicine 101.185 points | Debut: May 4 Peak: #15; June 29 Run: 40-38-40-35-26-30-22-23-15-20-24-26-32-30-35-37-37-37 Favorite Line: "You know you're an expert at complicating things (That's how I'm wired, believe me it's no fun)" | Wow, look how close this a "Mirror" were to each other! Anyway, "Medicine" was one of those songs that I'm not quite sure if it was a single or not. I think it was quietly sent to some country stations after the album's release, but it didn't really do much. When I first heard Shakira was doing a song with Blake Shelton, I was a bit taken back. I knew The Voice coaches had done collabs before ("Moves Like Jagger," "Just a Fool," both I really love), but this one just seemed out there to me. Yet, it works way better than it really should. Shakira's vocals sound... amazing on country music. Like, what?! The same artist that gave us "Hips Don't Lie" sounds better on country music than latin pop?! WTF?! Yet, she does. I love the whole back-and-forth this song has. Shakira says something, Blake answers back, and vice versa. It feels like a true love story type of song, and it's glorious. | | 65 Ke$ha Iggy Pop Dirty Love 101.673 points | Debut: January 19 Peak: #8; March 30 Run: 37-29-25-30-29-22-22-20-13-10-8-10-12-20-33-35-39 Favorite Line: "Cockroaches do it in the garbage cans" | Not my favorite from Warrior, but I knew I liked it more than the average person. When I saw it got a low-budget video for the fans, I was all over charting this! I LOVE the whole nasty, dirty southern pop/rock sound this song has going on. It makes me feel filthy, and I love it. The lyrics are cleverly hilarious. Iggy's verse is one of my favorite verses on the year. "Santorum did it in a v-neck sweater" is such a tongue-in-cheek line, oh my God. My favorite part of the song, though, is the transition from the bridge back to the powerful chorus: "I just want your fucking filthy looooooVAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!" I was so glad I was able to chart a Ke$ha song this year with her as the main artist. | | 64 SoMo Kings & Queens (Throw It Up) 102.174 points | Debut: April 13 Peak: #12; June 1-June 8 Run: 28-17-21-14-20-15-13-12-12-15-20-27-31-34-37-39 Favorite Line: "Just might have to make her dance, just might have to use my hands, just might have to slap that... Haha damn" | Never did I expect to be downloading an EP from an up and coming r&b artist, but damn if SoMo's EP isn't so good. "Kings & Queens" was the lead single from it, not "Ride," but this charted after "Ride" for me. "Kings & Queens" is so goddamn good. The production just makes me feel all warm and cozy, which is a strange feeling for a party song, but it works, trust me. The lyrics so perfectly capture what it's like for a guy at a party looking for a little something more than just a one night stand. Kind of a coming-of-age song, if you will, for a guy in his early 20s. Weird. Anyway, I always imagined this song getting a really awesome video that would keep switching back and forth between a modern dance party and a party from colonial times, like something out of Taylor Swift's "Love Story." It fits the feel of the song so well. | | 63 Thirty Seconds to Mars Up in the Air 102.637 points | Debut: June 8 Peak: #9; July 20 Run: 40-34-39-30-29-21-9-13-11-15-20-22-24-29-33-33-40 Favorite Line: "I'll wrap my hands around your neck so tight with love, love" | Another song with a bizarre run. My ex-roommate first showed me this song back in March, and I liked it, but I just forgot about it until late May when I remember he showed me a song by Thirty Seconds to Mars that I actually liked. Upon asking him what it was, I immediately downloaded it and it became a top ten hit for me over the summer, well over a year after its initial release. Oops. Though, it spent only one week in the top ten after it shot up from 21 to nine! I still don't know exactly what fueled that. The rest of the song's run came as the song kind of flipped back and forth between a high burn rate and me loving it over and over, giving the song pretty good longevity on its fall from it peak, resulting in it placing #63 here. My favorite part of the song is definitely the bridge. The production there is perfect. The way the tribal drums come in and out of the song is exceptional musicianship. Gives the song a feeling of power and boldness. Really well done song. | | 62 Sam Hunt Leave the Night On 104.040 points | Debut: July 20 Peak: #10; October 5 Run: 38-26-24-22-24-26-23-14-12-13-11-10-16-19-24-31-30-36-38-36 Favorite Line: "The sky is dropping Jupiter around us like some old Train" | I know a lot of country listeners despise this song, but I don't care what they say. This song is crazy infectious and was one of the biggest country hits of the year for me. I'm so glad to see it became a big hit in the end. This is one of those songs that I find hard to resist singing to whenever it comes on. What I like most about this song is that it finds a way to keep those same themes that are popular in country music today lyrically without being "misogynistic" for lack of a better term. I also just really love that a country song makes a reference to one of my favorite songs of all time: "Drops of Jupiter (Tell Me)" by Train. | | 61 Lady Gaga R. Kelly Do What U Want 104.109 points | Debut: cont'd from 2013 Peak: #1; January 12 Run: ...18-13-13-9-5-8-1-4-8-11-17-17-26-33-34-39 Favorite Line: "You can't stop my voice 'cuz you don't own my life, but do what you want with my body" | I was not a fan of ARTPOP, but "Do What U Want" caught my attention immediately. It has this really cool mix of r&b and dance pop that comes across as this powerful, slightly reggae sounding at times, beast of a song that uses sexual euphanisms to discuss the savagry of the media on the life of celebrities. Very clever lyrics, actually. And the Marilyn Monroe/John F. Kennedy reference is one of my favorite political references in music ever. R. Kelly sounds fucking awesome on this song as well. Man can sing! It's really sad that this song kind of got the shaft in promotional terms. While it was a hit, I think it could have been much larger than what it was. RIP DWUW video. |
| 35 Paramore 209.446 points | Tracks This Year: Ain't It Fun - #1 Top Recurrents This Year: 1) Still Into You - 9.906 points 2) Misery Business - 8.382 points 3) Ignorance/The Only Exception - 3.048 points | Paramore may have only had one charting hit this year, but their longevity with me continues to surprise me. They always seem to hit me with a good song every album cycle, even though I may not enjoy the full album. This year, they smashed with "Ain't It Fun," definitely one of the biggest hits of the year. It actually followed up one of last year's biggest hits with me, "Still Into You," which landed as the band's biggest recurrent hit this year. Something about this band's style just intrigues me. They continue to push the boundary of alternative rock, becoming more and more influenced by pop, yet they never seem to leave their rock roots behind. Also, Hayley's voice is just so good. (Plus, she's kinda really, really hot.) | | 34 Kelly Clarkson 210.232 points | Tracks This Year: Underneath the Tree - #17 Top Recurrents This Year: 1) Catch My Breath - 9.906 points 2) Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas/What Doesn't Kill You (Stronger) - 9.144 points | Kelly didn't do much this year. A majority of her points is coming off of Wrapped in Red, her Christmas album from last year. Since the tracking period is from December 2013-November 2014, of course the bulk of the album's points are included in this year-end. WIR has become my all time favorite Christmas album. Kelly's unique way of fitting into several different genres works well in the holiday treat as the album ranges from modern pop/rock to jazz to even songs with complete orchestra accompaniment. Lord knows I'm more than excited for her return, which may be next month! | | 33 Colbie Caillat 218.943 points | Tracks This Year: Hold On - #10 Try - #16 Top Recurrents This Year: 1) One Fine Wire - 2.286 points 2) Bubbly/Realize/Circles/I Never Told You - 1.524 points | Colbie surprised me this year with two pretty good singles, both reaching the top 20 for me. It saddens me that she just can't seem to become a huge artist because she really deserves it. Her vocals are great and her music is objectively pretty good. I really like her whole sweet California/Hawaii girl persona she portrays. (And coming off of Kelly Clarkson, I believe Colbie would make one hell of a Christmas album as well.) While I'm not an avid fan, I will continue to keep her on my radar for years to come as long as she continues to give us great songs like "Bubbly" and "Hold On." | | 32 Cher Lloyd 223.595 points | Tracks This Year: I Wish - #5 Really Don't Care - #5 Top Recurrents This Year: 1) Want U Back - 3.810 points 2) With Ur Love - 2.286 points | Cher Lloyd kind of suffered this year with "I Wish" being split between two years, which hurt it enough to not make the top 100, but she lands at #32 thanks to aid from being in Demi's "Really Don't Care." She released a new album this year, and it unfortunately flopped. I'm not surprised as the album was kind of everywhere in sound, and it was kind of generic save one or two songs. There was one track I actually really liked, but it got lost in the shuffle, and I never ended up downloading it. I don't even remember the title. Oops. Anyway, I hope she continues to try because I really like her persona and she's actually a pretty talented vocalist. | | 31 Zendaya 227.448 points | Tracks This Year: Replay - #1 My Baby - #9 | Zendaya's debut album was actually fairly decent. I never bought it, but I heard the potential in some of the tracks. I can see her becoming really big if she continues on the path she's on. She's still so young so her voice can grow stronger. As far as her style, I think she's on a good path to become what I thought Ciara and Cassie were trying to be before they veered off. ("Replay" is one of the best pure pop songs in a long time.) |

The lack of promo for DWUW will always remain a mystery to me! And yay for Sam Hunt making it. Leave the Night On never charted for me, though his follow-up has. And I bet Zeebz likes #63 ;)

So good to see "Jump", "Only Love Can Hurt Like This", "Try", "Hey Brother", "Drunk In Love", "Wild Life", "Biting Down", "Habits" (so low!), "Overdose", "Hard Out Here", "Tiptoe", "Let Her Go", "Up In the Air", "Leave the Night On", and "Do What U Want" here so far. And I bet Zeebz likes #63 ;) You're right, I adore it. It was one of my favorite songs last year and naturally I enjoy the cover art. Should've used it as an avi.

So good to see "Let Her Go", "Mirror", "Up in the Air" and "Do What U Want" in this batch, as well as Paramore and Kelly Clarkson. And I bet Zeebz likes #63 ;) I also like this. It made the #23 spot on my last YE chart. #shamelesspromo

YourFaveIsAFlop Fancy Soldado de Juguete nivekwriter1 heyhey21 Adonia popstop | 60 Taylor Swift All Too Well 104.768 points | Debut: March 16 Peak: #8; May 18 Run: 31-33-23-13-13-11-10-12-13-8-12-23-22-30-37-37-40 Favorite Line: "I'm a crumpled up piece of paper lying here" | This one has always been a huge fan favorite, and I never quite understood why. I liked the song enough, but it never struck me as the masterpiece others were claiming it to be. That is, until I heard she was going to perform it at the Grammys. I rediscovered the song in a new light that I had not previously seen, and it instantly became a favorite from Red. Also, how epicly iconic was that performance? That head bang became the basis of their promo this year! YAS! "All Too Well" has this amazing production going on. It's constantly growing, each second getting a little more epic than the previous, until it comes at a head at the "you call me up again just to break me like a promise" line, which nearly brings me to tears each time I listen to this wonderful piece of art. I love how after this section, the song once again dies away only to build right back up to an explosive last chorus filled with Phil Collins-esque drum beats and all. I really hate how the song was never pushed to radio after that Grammy performance. | | 59 Christina Grimmie I Bet You Don't Curse God 104.875 points | Debut: January 19 Peak: #11; April 13 Run: 36-31-28-28-32-28-26-25-20-15-15-16-11-22-16-25-29-39 Favorite Line: "And you're holding on before you say goodnight" | Speaking of hauntingly beautiful ballads, here is Christina Grimmie's "I Bet You Don't Curse God." Even though this never was a single, it was a hit for me following purchasing her debut album, With Love. The song is a beautiful piano ballad that also builds up to an exciting climax. Christina's vocals shine so brightly in this song, as she swings through beautiful whispers and powerful belts like a pro. Very much like Christina Aguilera in her early days. The best part of this song is easily after the second chorus. It dies away to a chilling bridge about being on your death bed, only to immediately blast you with another powerful chorus, which is followed by these wonderful lengthy notes of the word "God" only to end right after them, leaving you feeling so much power. | | 58 Rascal Flatts Rewind 105.339 points | Debut: February 16 Peak: #5; April 20-May 11 Run: 39-34-23-23-18-24-26-21-17-5-5-5-5-10-19-28-35 Favorite Line: "Re-spin you around replay that sound of you laughing when we hit the ground" | I used to really love Rascal Flatts, peaking in the Me and My Gang era, but ever since that era, they've been really hit or miss (mostly miss) with me. "Rewind" restored my faith in them as an awesome country band. Through the crap country music has been shoving down out throats lately, "Rewind" shines as this catchy mid-tempo about reliving those amazing moments of life over and over again. The vocals on this song just blow me away. The range is incredible! I can't sing this song without having to switch octaves at different parts of the song. Also, that chorus is one of the catchiest things this year. So good! Very glad to say this made my top five this year. | | 57 B.o.B Priscilla John Doe 105.838 points | Debut: January 26 Peak: #8; April 6 Run: 37-35-35-27-23-21-15-15-12-10-8-9-15-19-27-28-34-40 Favorite Line: "But that what you judge you become" | B.o.B flew off my radar after "So Good," but came flying right back in when "John Doe" was released. This song hits home as it discusses the terrible affects of alcohol and drugs can have on a person and their loved ones. The production on this song is really what captured me at first. It's very much like a nice r&b/pop ballad that we all would jam to in the mid-late 2000s (think "Take a Bow," "Irreplaceable," etc.) What was great about this song was that it ended up blowing up right around the time it was announced B.o.B was going to be our headliner at my college's spring concert this year (with SoMo as the special guest). Unfortunately, I was not able to attend the concert, but I did get swept up in the B.o.B craze after the announcement, and this song became a hit with me thanks to that. | | 56 Sam Smith Stay with Me 106.480 points | Debut: June 22 Peak: #10; August 24 Run: 38-29-30-22-23-18-17-14-11-10-12-13-17-26-32-33-39-39 Favorite Line: "Guess it's true, I'm not good at a one-night stand, but I still need love 'cause I'm just a man" | This must be the section where all the ballads fell, haha! "Stay with Me" took a while to grow on me, but it eventually did and became a successful hit with me. Sam Smith is such an incredibly talented vocalist, and "Stay with Me" showcases this so exceptionally well. Those high notes he rocks in the last two choruses are so good it gives me chills. And the emotion he pours into this song is so raw, so real. I love that even though this is a ballad, it's heavily beat driven. Very much something I can sing to while tapping my foot. Fantastic song. | | 55 Lily Allen Sheezus 107.445 points | Debut: June 1 Peak: #9; August 3 Run: 33-27-26-22-18-14-16-17-14-9-19-21-23-30-33-36-40 Favorite Line: "Lorde smells blood, yeah, she's about to slay you, kid ain't one to f**k with when she's only on her debut" | I honestly can't tell if Lily Allen is becoming more like Kanye West or mocking Kanye West. Either way, I like it. "Sheezus" was Sheezus' third single, and holy s**t, is it f**king good. It's all about Lily coming back to the music scene, relating herself to the divas of today, name dropping Rihanna, Katy Perry, Beyoncé, Lorde, and Lady Gaga. The song is so chill, but at the same time, it's goes hard. The lyrics are flawless, though sometimes weird, especially when there's a whole verse about periods (lol, what?). What really made the song for me, though, was the video. The crazy colors and posterization of it all is so well done, and then she just randomly turns into the devil at the end. It's simple, yet it stuck in my head better than most videos this year. The outro is easily my favorite part of the song. That bass line kicks ass. | | 54 Britney Spears T.I. Tik Tik Boom 107.898 points | Debut: February 2 Peak: #6; March 30 Run: 34-34-30-20-17-14-11-9-6-7-7-12-24-28-33-28-36 Favorite Line: "Give it to you 'til you curl your toes" | And probably the biggest album track of the year for me goes to Britney Spears of all people, from probably her worst album. What can I say, though, "Tik Tik Boom" is so f**king good. That chorus is repetitive, but catchy as hell. The bass line through the chorus is amazing, and it's what drew me to the song initially. I kind of see this song as a second rate "Dark Horse," but, hell, if the second rate versions of "Dark Horse" are this good, then by all means, may every artist attempt to recreate that song! I was even surprised to become a fan of T.I.'s verse! The lyrics are strange, but his flow is sick and matches the beat of this song so well. It's a shame this one is very hit or miss with a lot of her fans, because to me, it sounds like a smash. | | 53 Zendaya Replay 108.469 points | Debut: cont'd from 2013 Peak: #1; December 15 Run: ...3-3-1-2-6-4-11-18-20-26-25-28-31-30-31-34 Favorite Line: "I don't wanna miss a single thing, I wanna hear every melody" | One of the highest repeat offenders this year is Zendaya's "Replay" (it hit #1 at the beginning of the tracking period this year, but had a long climb to the top spot in 2013, resulting in high honors in both year-end lists). "Replay" is probably one of the biggest smashes on my chart. The verses just immediately grab your attention, drawing you into this flawless and powerful chorus. "Replay" is also probably one of the most well done pop songs of this decade so far. I just don't know how to describe my love for this song. I just never really get sick of it, which is why it lasted so long on my chart. Props to the producer of this song. The little clicks, pops, and whatnot throughout the song just make it for me. Also, Zendaya's voice just sounds so smooth here, as if her voice and this song were made for each other. No other artist could produce "Replay" as well as Zendaya did. | | 52 Christina Grimmie Feelin' Good 108.469 points | Debut: May 15 Peak: #10; July 13 Run: 38-34-27-21-25-12-13-18-10-16-21-22-24-25-29-32-35 Favorite Line: "Can't stop from smiling, I'm bottled lightning" | Christina Grimmie snags another final entry here with "Feelin' Good," With Love's second and final single, which received a "for fans video" as she neared the finals on The Voice. "Feelin' Good" is a high-energy pop/r&b jam reminiscent of something from the early 70s. This was always an instant standout for me from the album, so I'm glad it became a single, even if by "single" for Grimmie so far means a video. (She really needs to get pushed to radio!) The best part of this song, though, is the sexy drum beat in the bridge. It's so swanky and you can't help but dance from that point onwards. Grimmie's vocals once again shine in this song, especially in the latter half with some killer adlibs. ("Nah, nah, I can't complain," for example.) | | 51 MKTO Classic 109.005 points | Debut: February 16 Peak: #11; April 27 Run: 40-39-34-30-28-27-28-27-26-18-11-15-16-13-18-14-20-29-35 Favorite Line: "Let's get it on like Marvin Gaye, like Hathaway write a song for you like this" | This song took forever to grow on me, but that's okay, because apparently the same can be said for all of the US as it started blowing up shortly after I became a fan. MKTO of course had a hit with me prior with "Thank You," but "Classic" ended up surpassing it. "Classic" has this cool, slick beat and piano riff. The lyrics are also some of my favorite this year. All of those references to the icons and legends of last century are so cleverly done, and it makes me wish more people from generation understood what was so great about the people being referenced rather than trying to twerk and show their asses to everyone. Leaving it all to the imagination is so much hotter, IMO. I'm glad this became a hit for them. |
| 30 Sia 230.706 points | Tracks This Year: Chandelier - #1 Top Recurrents This Year: 1) Push - 5.334 points 2) Wild Ones - 0.762 points | Sia kicks off the top 30 despite only charting one song this year! That means "Chandelier" will likely be very, very high on my chart. I have nothing but great things to say about Sia. I love her style, her artistry, her unique voice, and her powerhouse vocals. Her solo music is very hit or miss with me, but she's always on my radar, and her work for other artists usually ends up being epic (see: Rihanna's "Diamonds"). She gets a lot of flack for not wanting to show her face, but that's kind of her appeal for me now. She wants the music to speak for itself as much as it possibly can. She doesn't completely stay out of the limelight, of course, she's been in several of her own videos, and you can see pictures of her just by a simple Google search, but her need for privacy is kind of refreshing at times. I'm really looking forward to hearing more from Sia in 2015. | | 29 Britney Spears 245.379 points | Tracks This Year: Perfume - #18 Tik Tik Boom - #6 Top Recurrents This Year: 1) SMS (Bangerz) - 6.858 points 2) Womanizer - 3.810 points 3) Toxic/Ooh Ooh Baby/Criminal - 3.048 points | Britney rocks in at #29 this year, coming off of "Tik Tik Boom" and "Perfume," but also getting a lot of aid from recurrent play. Britney is an interesting artist. Her vocals are unique, her style is almost always at the forefront of what's new and upcoming, and her songs range from club anthems to some pretty beautiful stuff (like "Everytime," "Touch of My Hand," etc). Unfortunately, the Britney Jean album sucked, but I still think that album was quickly done for new material to have for her Vegas show. She plans to return in January with Iggy Azalea, and I'm so excited to hear what she has in store for us. | | 28 Tove Lo 256.851 points | Tracks This Year: Stay High (Habits Remix) - #9 Habits (Stay High) - #6 | Tove Lo shows up coming off on only one song and its remix! That's pretty incredible, actually. I have checked out her album, and there are a few songs on it that I could see growing on me. I like Tove Lo's style. I feel like she's going to a poppier version of Lorde, and I am completely okay with that. | | 27 Wiz Khalifa 258.187 points | Tracks This Year: 23 - #19 Or Nah - #6 Shell Shocked - #35 Top Recurrents This Year: 1) Roll Up - 1.524 points 2) Payphone - 0.762 points | So, yeah. Wiz Khalifa charted quite a bit this year, which is why he's so high. He's verses usually aren't the highlights for me, though. He's mostly just kind of... there. Good for him, I guess? He can continue to get work past "Black and Yellow," which is honestly surprising to me. At least he seems to know which tracks to be featured on. | | 26 Sam Smith 265.166 points | Tracks This Year: Latch - #5 Stay with Me - #10 | More praise for Sam Smith to go along with "Stay with Me." Very talented vocalist. I feel like he has a really cool personality too. Also, can we give a hand for one of the first wildly successful openly gay males in mainstream music? (As he came out while blowing up. Others usually come out after being successful for a while.) That's a very good sign for the times, honestly. Unfortunately, a lot of his songs bore me a bit, but he will remain on my radar since I do like some of his music, and you can't deny a talent like his. |

Both were in my Top 10 as well (#1 and #8). Oh, and love seeing "Or Nah" lol This makes me a little sad that I couldn't do the commentary for the whole thing. Lorde scored three top 20 hits, two of which were in the top ten. Plus "Royals," which landed at #7 on last year's list, comes in at #22 this year. Absolutely amazing stats! No wonder she was #1 this year with a huge lead over everyone else. 125.855% lead over the #2, Katy Perry. "Rather Be" has a 118.849% lead over "Let It Go" for comparison. I also wanted to make a big deal about "Royals" landing at #22. It debuted in July 2013, peaked in September 2013. The fact that it is still nearly top 20 for the following year is incredible and a true testament to its outstanding longevity with me. Longevity that is kind of being resembled in a song that landed at #40 this year. ;) Anyway, yeah, "Neon Lights" also had killer longevity, which definitely aided it to land at #8 this year despite its weekly peak only being #6. It's the lowest peaking song in the top ten by far. Well, not by far. "Tennis Court" only peaked at #5, but was aided from hanging on the beginning of the year from the album's release only to turn around and earn a second trip on the chart a single. (Which is going to happen to like everything charting from 1989 right now.) Everything else, though, peaked at #1, except "Team," which peaked at #2. YAS @ the "Dark Horse"/"Black Widow" combo in your top ten too! I haven't been back to look at your list in a while, I think I left off right before the top ten songs. "Or Nah"!!! Songs3. Sia - Chandelier 197.342 2. Idina Menzel - Let It Go 204.831 1. Clean Bandit/Jess Glynne - Rather Be 243.440 What an amazing top 3! I love them all! I, of course, would completely agree. ;)

Damn, "Royals" absolutely slayed :o It was my #5 for 2013, and "Tennis Court" was my #4. "Royals" has burned on me a lot though. I'll still listen to it, but I'm not as crazy about it anymore Good to see "Neon Lights" had longevity. It's easily my least favorite single from the era but I still really like it And admittedly, it's had better longevity than any of the others. Not that I like it more than them now, just that it's had a lower burn rate I love hearing "Black Widow" and "Dark Horse" back-to-back. Such a flawless combo And oh, I guess it's time for some shameless promo

Sad that you could not finish this list, Austin :(
Anyway, our music tastes are very similar, so of course I enjoy the majority of the songs on your list. I'm particularly glad to see "Rather Be" topping the list as it was one of my faves from 2014 and just a fantastic song! <3
