I got tickets to Montreal! Yay! I'll be at the show too! Also damn I'm in love with the "John Wayne" music video! It's hands down my favorite song on the album and if it doesn't become a single then at least I got the music video! This also means she'll more than likely have it in her set list when she comes!

Why did everyone call art pop a flop when it hit #1 on the billboard 200 and sold 2.3 million copies?

Why did everyone call art pop a flop when it hit #1 on the billboard 200 and sold 2.3 million copies? Many times projects are not literally a flop...they often times are called flops based on expectations at a specific time. It becomes fairly relative. Flop and relevant have become overused terms!!

Why did everyone call art pop a flop when it hit #1 on the billboard 200 and sold 2.3 million copies? In the US it sold about 750k not a flop but certainly an underperformed compared to her previous sales. Also after applause, the era pretty much fell apart single wise with do what you wants video being cut and guy being released super late

Gaga had insane expectations for what she needed to do to be seen as successful. In retrospect, the numbers from Artpop aren't that bad and those numbers are pretty respectable for a pop star. I think the numbers are even more impressive with how she seemed to be actively battling against being successful at that time. That was her peak of being disliked in my opinion. I also literally cannot think of another major (or even minor) artist that somehow couldn't come up with a video for a second single from a project that was getting plenty of airplay Then she waited ten years to release a third single and it wasn't even one of the most radio friendly songs left on the cd. I often think how Artpop would have done if she had had her game face on and had a cohesive, well-organized promotional campaign for it with the right singles and the right videos.

Wasn't there a lot of behind the scenes drama? She went through a management change I believe and was injured. Some eras just don't come together.

She set those expectations up for herself, though. Which is actually crazy when you think about it: she really was THAT bitch in such a small amount of time. I didn't bat an eyelash when Billboard labeled her a legacy act, but it hasn't even been a decade since her debut. She's done so much already... That is its own unique accomplishment, to have a fulfilling, impactful career in such a short burst. She's the industry equivalent of a nuke.
Unrelated, but in a beats1 interview she claimed she was ready to go back to the pop star she used to be. I'm salivating at the thought.

I remember her getting some sh*t in the press for this performance. It happened to be performed on the 50th anniversary of President Kennedy's assassination and was viewed as insensitive. I didn't care much for the performance but I always loved this song and wished it had done well.

That Metalica performance was as dive-bar-kareoke disaster as they come. Great energy and looks from her, but her voice doesn't work in that genre. I won't even comment on the first minute microphone catarosphe.

Even aside from the mic mishap, that performance was such a waste. To go from that epic Super Bowl performance to that inaudible head banging mess in one week flat? Ugh. Not a great way to keep a newly re-reeled in audience's attention.

I thought she pulled it off well. I wouldn't want a collaboration album with Metallica or anything but I wouldn't say no to an actual rock recording from Gaga. It's not completely out of her element. She's always been rock n roll

She threw herself into it, I'll give her that much. But I didn't care for the performance at all. It felt like a wasted opportunity.

I accidentally posted this in the wrong thread hence the quotes * Just seen the Gaga performance dfkm love her but that was a f**king mess and it was so messy I actually ended up loving it! I never thought I could see someone shaking their ass to a metal song but she did it! She was a parody of a girl trying to be metal like it was cute lol. Also her pre show look based Gaga knee high hooker boots and boobs. Love it. She can't do wrong lately.

She has publicly stated many times that she loves metal and hard rock so I believe that was something she had wanted to do for years now

Since her new album has country roots, I thought she would have been a much better pairing with Marren Morris.

Congrats on the #4 re-entry! With sales dropping and airplay / streaming not as strong as the songs around it, I suspect it will see a substantial drop next week.
