Did not expect One Direction to be the #1 artist of 2014.

I prefer seeing Katy Perry on top, or maybe Ariana (idk), but not One Direction.

These look fine, you have to keep in mind that the Billboard year isn't the calendar year. Taylor didn't have enough time to get enough points. One Direction isn't surprising when you consider that they also include Boxscore and Social 50 data. Taylor's probably going to be #1 next year with her tour, and 1D will probably be #2 or #3 with their stadium tour.
The weirdest thing is seeing Iggy at #6, but Sam Smith only at #13.

I thought Taylor would be the #1 artist of 2014 :( Like mentioned above, she could have been no1 for the calendar year, but this is the billboard year, so it includes only what - Sweeter Than Fiction, Shake It Off and a few weeks of 1989? Very impressive that she is still no4.

Did the first week of Four count for this or is that 2015?
It's pretty impressive that a pop boy band is named Billboard's Artist of the Year after just releasing their 4th album.
2015 already looks tough with Taylor Swift and One Direction fighting Adele and Rihanna. Plus new music from Bruno Mars, Drake and Lil' Wayne.

I'm just confused how One Direction ended up at #1. They included tours as well. Not Britney's residency securing her charting position albeit 80 it's still better than not charting at all. The fact that the Vegas residency carried this era is ironic.

how is britney jean at #74? that's so high edit: and bieber? he had a few final tour dates in there and his journals album, but that didn't chart because of withholding sales, right? then a little activity on hot 100... social 50 seems to be way too big of a factor

Also, look at Miley Cyrus vs. Lorde.
MILEY CYRUS - #8 Billboard 200 Artist - #29 Hot 100 Artist - #30 Social Artist - #2
LORDE - #11 Billboard 200 Artist - #8 Hot 100 Artist - #7 Social Artist - #38
Even though Miley has a huge lead on social platforms, seems like Lorde should end up higher, no?

Let it Go at #21? Just goes to show how flawed their methodology can be... How so? No matter how you see it, Let it go was one of the biggest songs of the year. There's no way one could say Am I Wrong or Team were more popular than Let it go this year.

Britney Jean benefited from being released when the new chart year started, so those early sales were included for the year chart.
Let It Go indeed is one of the year's big hits, despite its relative lack of airplay. And while it missed the top 50 on Hot 100 Airplay, it reached top 20 at Hot AC and top 10 at AC.
