Underwood also performed at the CMAs, which was great pre-release exposure for the album. In any event, yes, for a hits compilation, a fair amount of promotion.
The albums by Adele Dazeem and duet partner Buble are neck-and-neck. Of course, it's his album's fourth season and just her album's first.

Oh, I see. HITS has them switched. So Carrie should be #4. I'll edit. I think HITS is putting them in order with SPS numbers.

Great numbers for Carrie's GH and I am so pleasantly surprised at K. Michelle's numbers! Her lead single hasn't even been doing all that hot, but clearly she has the fans. I'm excited to get my hands on AWBAH.

www.billboard.com/articles/columns/chart-beat/6406083/carrie-underwood-and-k-michelle-heading-for-top-10-on-billboardCarrie Underwood and K. Michelle Heading for Top 10 on Billboard 200 ChartBy Keith Caulfield | December 12, 2014 10:13 PM EST Country diva Carrie Underwood and R&B singer K. Michelle are both heading for the top 10 of the Billboard 200 albums chart next week. Industry sources suggest Underwood's new best-of album, Greatest Hits: Decade #1, may sell around 85,000 copies in the week ending Dec. 14. If it starts in the top 10, it would mark her fifth title to reach the region, following four earlier studio efforts. The new album's first single, "Something In the Water," is currently No. 2 on the Hot Country Songs chart after previously peaking at No. 1. The new Billboard 200's top 10 will be revealed on Wednesday, Dec. 17. K. Michelle's second album, Anybody Wanna Buy a Heart?, is also aiming for the top 10, with perhaps 75,000 or so in sales. It follows the singer's first album, 2013's Rebellious Soul, which debuted and peaked at No. 2 with 72,000 sold in its opening week. Anybody's lead single, "Love 'Em All," holds at No. 18 on the Hot R&B Songs chart for another week β its peak. As for next week's No. 1 album, look for J. Cole's 2014 Forest Hills Drive to arrive in the top slot. Sources say the set may sell over 325,000 β earning the rapper's best sales week ever and his third chart-topper. As the recently revamped Billboard 200 reflects the overall consumption of albums (including track equivalent albums [TEA] and streaming equivalent albums [SEA]), one can't look only to pure album sales to determine the chart's final ranking. Still, J. Cole seems like he has a very good shot at opening at No. 1, while a top 10 start for both Underwood and Michelle is likely.

Big takeaway from the J. Cole album is the role organic popularity plays in driving sales. He didn't go overboard on the traditional promotional circuit, didn't hype the album too far in advance, yet didn't just surprisingly drop it to capitalize on "event" commotion ("pulling a Beyonce"). He just relied upon his existing fanbase and positive early word-of-mouth to produce a huge number.
People can go on every talk show in the world during release week, and maybe that will help a little (particularly with singles, which now count towards the BB200), but it seems to me that real success is determined by how you're cultivating a fanbase on a 24/7/365 basis.

She might or you never know. Then it will be Sam Smith after he sweeps the Grammy Awards he might be perched up there ala Adele for a while.

It really is quality driving his sales. Woth no single before the album dropped and no traditional promo, everything was word of mouth. He was going around the country having listening parties at fans houses that asked to hear the record on Twitter, I mean who does that? He could have been out hitting up all the big TV/radio spots in the lead up, but Roc trusted the quality of the material. And I really don't think they even expected the record to do this well out the gate

I have to give her much respect for the marketing, business and relevancy end of things. She killed the competition and it's great to see success like that from anyone. Sam Smith I adore him, I adore his talent and I adore his voice and thrilled that UK soul/pop has made its way. It's like a when you open the window after a night of hot sex and you get that thrust of fresh air. Thank god for singers at the top of the chart!. Platinum on his first album and more to come. Barbara Streisand now this old bitch and I mean that lovingly is showing these bitches how to cultivate and maintain a fan base. This lady no promo, no marketing , no hype and album after album giving a middle finger to ageism. Who needs a hit! Ariana Grande does need a hit or multiple of them. 425K so far sold while good, is remarkably low for the amount of hits and hype she has generated. Thank go for the hits, I say. I dunno it just seems like Oxymoron or whatever his name be has 344K with one hit and Trey Songz is 125K behind and nobody talking about him. I honestly read she was platinum in her album thread, so just assumed she was.

Tbh Ariana Grande is much more popular than these sales indicate. Her fans have never been used to buy albums from a store.

^A few extra? 575,000 extra copies?? LOL
In the past, albums that have sold 650k had been certified Platinum, but I cannot remember a time when an album at 407k was certified Platinum.
Lorde's album was certified 2xP even though it just crossed the 1.5 million sold mark.
Lorde and Ariana are on the same label: Republic Records.

But I'm on the same page with you completely. Also, Jason Aldean's Old Boots New Dirt just got certified Platinum, too, despite being just over the 600k mark. These premature certifications are completely ridiculous.

^I knew you were kidding.
Jason Aldean selling 1 million is very possible. That doesn't bother me.
It's the end of the year. Labels have shipped out extra units.
We have 3 more big sales weeks coming up.

Any early predictions for Nicki?
Over 200k?
Under 200k?
I think D'Angelo has a good chance to sell more.

Nicki star is lowest its been (but then again her ass has been making waves, so maybe not) I still think well under 200K.
I would have said 80-120 before that ass song, but now she is a bit of a wildcard.
I will go with 150-170K .

I think Nicki does over 200, possibly close to 300 once you add in TEA/SEA.
I think D'Angelo could potentially hit 200 too if he's lucky.
