Blurred Lines only had 14. WFL only had 15. Yeah I realized that. Thrift Shop, STIUTK and Payphone also came close with 15 (very impressive achievement for Payphone considering that it failed to reach #1) as did Happy and Dark Horse each with 14. TS and H both had 14 consecutive weeks in the top 2!!!!!

Nope it fell straight to #5 after its last week at #1 so it only got 16 (2-2-1-1-1-1-1-1-1-1-1-1-1-1-1-1-5...) so I guess the last song to get 17 straight weeks in the top 3 (or even 17 non-consecutive weeks) was in fact WBT almost 10 years ago :O :O :O

"All About That Bass" is a massive smash hit. It pretty much had to have been to keep blocking "Shake It Off" for so many weeks, which was also a massive smash hit. "Bass" was just slightly bigger. Honestly, I can't even remember the last time there were two songs just completely dominating the industry at once. One could argue "Dark Horse" and "Happy" from earlier this year, but even then, I don't think they quite match the success of "Bass" and "Shake." Maybe "Rolling in the Deep" and "Party Rock Anthem"? I don't know if I'd count that either because "Deep" was peaking by the time "Party" was nearing the success levels of "Deep."
Oh, wait a minute, "TiK ToK" and "Bad Romance"? Yeah, that's probably the closest I can think of to being similar to "Bass" and "Shake." Except poor "Bad Romance" was blocked from the top completely. And quite possibly even again later that same year with "California Gurls" and "Airplanes."

Is there any real difference between Mediabase and Kworb's Overall AI section, and which does Billboard use? On Kworb's, LMH is ahead of INTOO and should overtake Waves tomorrow

I think the next closest would be Rolling in the Deep & Party Rock Anthem, but like you said, their chart runs didn't really overlap as much.

Even if we just consider this decade, Happy, Blurred Lines, Call Me Maybe, Rolling in the Deep, Party Rock Anthem, Somebody That I Used to Know, and We Found Love were not able to do it. I wonder if it will start falling off the charts quickly after Lips Are Moving comes in. It will definitely get a big boost through year-end countdowns, the return of AC and some HAC airplay due to holiday songs ending, etc. The normal fall should start in mid-January.

On Kworb's, LMH is ahead of INTOO and should overtake Waves tomorrow Neither - it uses Nielsen BDS which measures generally smaller overall AI figures than those on Kworb and Mediabase. Happy got over 300M AI according to Kworb/Mediabase but Billboard has it recorded as 225.9M (and on Kworb/Mediabase Happy got a larger peak AI than Blurred Lines but according to Billboard it did not beat BL's AI record).

When I think of songs that started somewhat slow, then build to have longevity, I think of Smooth. When that first came out, I thought it would be a big hit, but not a 10 week #1 song. Once it hit, it got huge and stayed around for a long time.

"All About That Bass" is a massive smash hit. It pretty much had to have been to keep blocking "Shake It Off" for so many weeks, which was also a massive smash hit. "Bass" was just slightly bigger. Honestly, I can't even remember the last time there were two songs just completely dominating the industry at once. One could argue "Dark Horse" and "Happy" from earlier this year, but even then, I don't think they quite match the success of "Bass" and "Shake." Maybe "Rolling in the Deep" and "Party Rock Anthem"? I don't know if I'd count that either because "Deep" was peaking by the time "Party" was nearing the success levels of "Deep." Oh, wait a minute, "TiK ToK" and "Bad Romance"? Yeah, that's probably the closest I can think of to being similar to "Bass" and "Shake." Except poor "Bad Romance" was blocked from the top completely. And quite possibly even again later that same year with "California Gurls" and "Airplanes." I don't think there has been a pair of singles to dominante the top 2 for as long as All About That Bass and Shake It Off! Just to think, Shake It Off would have 12 weeks at #1 if All About That Bass wasn't there, both songs were HUGE! I think the next closest would be Rolling in the Deep & Party Rock Anthem, but like you said, their chart runs didn't really overlap as much. Lol not even close; in fact, RITD and PRA were never in the top two at the same time! GME would get in their way. The closest would actually be We Found Love and Sexy And I Know It as they locked up the top two for a double digit number of weeks straight (hence why poor The One That Got Away, and It Will Rain both only peaked at #3 :()
