I feel like it will pull a "What Now". Except that it might manage to sneak in a week in the top ten. It has been getting long strings of red updates on popularity bars for a long time now Also actually Sugar is #3 pretty far ahead of FourFiveSeconds when both versions of it are combined. It's at 0.5458 while FourFiveSeconds is at 0.4467. It still sucks though. Mediocre trash clicks with people all the time. I heard a version on the radio that has more instrumentation/percussion yesterday. Not sure if that is an official version or what - it is not the version for sale on iTunes. BTW, am I the only one that does not hear Paul McCartney on this song? What, is he singing a harmony or something? I guess they just want to tack his name on? I don't get it.

Grab your weaves, One Last Time, Bright and Elastic Heart coming for your faves.
Wonder what effect the Grammys tonight will have on the charts. I'm guessing a jump for Stay With Me, at least.

Quick question: views on Vevo.com are separate from views generated ob Vevo via YouTube, it looks? With the changes in recent years, I wouldn't count out views via Snapchat being reported to Billboard. (though I doubt it).

^The layout used to be different, but Nielsen now has it as part of its main page. That's where I get the info to keep my thread in the CHR/Pop forum going (acts with the most hits at the format).

The song is obviously clicking with people, though. This isn't a case of just it smashing on radio because of it being Rihanna. It's still number three on iTunes. I think it's more of "wow new Rihanna music. Hype!" not like "wow this is such a great song" Never before has hype from a new release kept a song afloat in sales for this long. The song itself has actually rebounded from the initial new release hype.

it's safe to say that Stay With Me will be on the charts for some time after that performance... at least back in the top 20 for a few weeks.

Is Madonna gonna get a clear channel deal for her song? It's the only way it'll reasonably get any airplay honestly.

They really tried with this one, but they forgot Latin artists cross over when they retain their Latin essence and make an accessible smash in English with that same essence, which sets them apart. They don't become worldwide stars by making dated boy band music.

What, is he singing a harmony or something? I guess they just want to tack his name on? I don't get it. Paul was definitely "singing" into the mic last night, yet I didn't hear him. It was weird that he even pretended. And, yeah, obviously his credit is because he's Paul. Guitar players don't usually get a credit, but this helps his chart history.

He also co-wrote the song in addition to guitar and background vocals. As mentioned, it has happened before, songwriters tack their name on it, even though they are not lead vocals

They rolled the dice on trying to make him into some sort of early 2000s pop/R&B throwback and it didn't work. Being hot can only take you so far.

Yeah, bachata doesn't have the best track record so far in the U.S. Romeo Santos, "king of bachata", only managed a #45 peak for "Odio" (which he didn't come close to for the rest of the song's run) because of the novelty of having a Drake guest verse. Royce himself tried with "Darte Un Beso", which did well with its target audience, but only peaked at #78 in the US mainstream. Even previous/currently popular artists branching into bachata haven't done well: Enrique Iglesias released the song "Loco" with Romeo Santos, and that only got to #80.
Honestly, any Spanish genre is fighting against the tide: one of the most iconic Latin songs of 2013, "Vivir Mi Vida", was distinctly salsa and barely scraped the Hot 100 at #92. "Bailando", as much as I hate to admit it, was less of a Spanish song gaining acceptance rather than a return for Sean Paul to the radio boosted by the extreme amount of views multiple-language versions of the song were getting on YouTube.

There just isn't a market for Latin crossover right now, and the genres that are popular in the Latin format have no mainstream appeal. Bailando was a special case of being a fun party song in the summer with a massively huge Spanish version and massive airplay of the English version in major metros with big Latin populations, plus the video streaming. Looking at the currently Top 10 on mainstream Latin radio, there's
1) Pitbull - Piensas (reggaeton/salsa) 2) J Balvin - Ahi Vamo (reggaeton) 3) Enrique Iglesias - Bailando (pop) 4) Ricky Martin - Disparo Al Corazon (ballad) 5) Christian Daniel - Me Vuelo un Corbade (ballad & bachata remix) 6) Romeo Santo - Yo Tambien (bachata) 7) Natalia Jimenez - Quedate Con Ella (pop/mariachi) 8) Juanes - Juntos (Juanes style - all of his songs are the same) 9) Chayanne - Madre Tierra - (pop) 10) Victor Manuelle - Que Suenen Los Tambores (salsa)
Of those 10, the only one with any crossover potential (Bailando) did. Juanes performed on the Grammys and I dont think he even cracked the Top 100 on iTunes (maybe he did and I missed it) and is currently at 150.
Latin music will come back around, but all of the articles from 2005 about how Latin music WAS pop music now are considerably premature in retrospect.
Also, on an different topic, I dont get why people keep trying to discount FourFiveSeconds' current success (particularly with sales) as just being "OMG NEW RIHANNA GOTTA BUY IT!". That certainly wasn't the case with Can't Remember To Forget You last year, which was a much more "Rihanna-sounding" track than 45S is, and it certainly didn't click with sales.

Enrique's Bailando was huge hit everywhere (except in the UK for some reason) and so fresh because at least here the Spanish version did better.
