I'm feeling desperate. I need one of you to make a viral video set to the tune of one of the current contenders (Sugar, Earned It, etc.) to help in dethroning UF. LOL

I'm serious. Viral videos can increase a song's chart success. I think it might be a good idea. It's worth a shot.

Myself included. I like the song, but seeing it dominate like this is getting very old. Especially when there are better songs out there.

So how does one create a "viral video"?

I'm still not sick of "Uptown Funk" and hope it continues to dominate. Would love to see it tie or break the record for most weeks at #1.

I don't hate Uptown Funk. In fact I loved it at first. But I am beyond sick of it. And here's how to create a viral video: you can do something (exercise, dancing, etc.) with a song playing in the background and it counts (the "Harlem Shake" example). Recommended songs for viral video: Sugar, Earned It, Somebody, GDFR, and maybe even Trap Queen. Yes, that's how desperate I am, that I'd be willing to let Trap Queen hit #1.

That explains the video, what about the viral part?

Yeah, you can make videos all you want, but it's hard to make them go viral. Speaking of viral videos, this is going around currently:
It's not under the category of music, and I'm not sure anything would happen with those song clips, but it is something worth noting. The songs are all old enough to not matter to the Hot 100, but it would be interesting to see if "Wrecking Ball" randomly popped back up on the streaming chart because of it. The video is helping out the individual songs in digital sales, though.
0:05 - The Andrews Sisters "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy" 0:22 - Elvis Presley "Hound Dog" 0:38 - The Beatles "Help!" 0:47 - Queen "We Will Rock You" (#383 on iTunes) 1:03 - Michael Jackson "Beat It" (#1278 on iTunes) 1:17 - Whitney Houston "I Wanna Dance with Somebody (Who Loves Me)" (#208 on iTunes) 1:37 - Nirvana "Smells Like Teen Spirit" (#308/1375 on iTunes) 1:54 - Dr. Dre & Snoop Dogg "The Next Episode" (#262 on iTunes) 2:05 - Britney Spears "...Baby One More Time" 2:15 - Eminem "The Real Slim Shady" (#519 on iTunes) 2:23 - Beyoncé "Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)" (#628 on iTunes) 2:34 - Gotye & Kimbra "Somebody That I Used to Know" (#176 on iTunes) 2:48 - Macklemore & Ryan Lewis & Wanz "Thrift Shop" (#443/787 on iTunes) 3:06 - Miley Cyrus "Wrecking Ball" (#564 on iTunes)

Post the video to YouTube. Spread it across Facebook, Twitter, etc. Try as hard as possible to get lots of people to watch it, to increase the streams of that song. And who knows? That song might dominate the Hot 100 like Christian Grey dominates Anastasia Steele.

Trust me: even if Uptown Funk breaks the record, you'll live. I can guarantee you that. Records are made to be broken especially since clearly a lot of people here agree that compared to many other songs from that day and age, One Sweet Day didn't really stand the test of time. If you're a die-hard fan of mariah then I guess I could understand why you wouldn't want UF to break that record but if it's just because you are tired of it being #1 well tough beans it is still huge. I know I'm not really in a position to be saying this as I got kinda tired of Dark Horse in the middle of 2014 after rearing it many times (I also liked it a lot in the beginning of 2014) and was getting frustrated at it charting for more than a year but even I stopped with that. As much as I love UF, I won't be devastated if it does not beat the record as it was already a huge success and likely one of the biggest songs of the decade. Anyway, it looks like UF has a pretty good chance at breaking the Digital Songs record so yay! quite a few records already broken by this song so even if it doesn't pass 16 weeks on the Hot 100 I won't be too upset (well as long as it is a legitimately popular song and not another unfair Harlem Shake ruling of 30-second videos for full streams. I guess partial credit would be fair since the song plays in the background but it definitely should not be equal to a stream for an actual official audio or video clip).

Yes, I am a huge Mariah fan, which is the main reason I don't want UF to continue dominating. I really would like to see a viral video with Sugar in the background. That, combined with their Voice performance in a few days, should push it to the top.

Even if Sugar miraculously got to #1 after the Voice, who's to say it won't tumble the following week, allowing UF to reclaim the throne? I think this record is in the bag. Tying it for sure.
And oh look, it's #1 on iTunes again.

Where's Katy Perry when we need her? She should have released Walking On Air as a single instead of calling it an era :'(

Well Carly Rae Jepsen failed us with I Really Like You which was hyped as the next Call Me Maybe ;)
Personally, I'm also bored with the chart right now that only thing I'm looking forward right now is if UF can tie or break One Sweet Day's record. I love UF though and glad for its success, it's such a strong song, dominating in all 3 elements

Please let Mariah continue to reign. Create a bunch of viral videos of UF's strongest contenders (Sugar, Earned It, GDFR, etc.). Download the songs on iTunes over and over again. Do whatever it takes but DON'T LET UPTOWN FUNK BREAK THE FUCKING RECORD!

None of the contenders have fan bases that have the time and are that passionate to pull such stunts just for a chart record ;)

I don't get that. Let's all go out and "create a bunch of viral videos." Making a viral video sounds as easy as making a bowl of cereal for breakfast.

^ Right. If it was easy thered be a ton of them.
I don't really want UF to tie or break the record but it's a good song. If it's gonna happen its at least a song I like.

Where's Katy Perry when we need her? She should have released Walking On Air as a single instead of calling it an era :'( No, I don't think anything from Prism could have done it. Era had lost way too much steam. She could come out with a brand new song and probably pull it off though. I won't lie, I always wondered how, exactly, something suddenly becomes 'viral.' How do certain videos take off over others? Like the teacher who danced through his school to Uptown Funk - how did that manage to get any views beyond the students/parents/faculty of that school? Harlem Shake, to this day, I do not know where that even began. It just seems very random. But yes, the idea is that you make a (hopefully) creative and entertaining video, then try to get it to spread as much as possible. The promotion isn't the difficult part, IMO, it's the coming up with an idea that anyone besides you and your handful of friends think is even mildly interesting. Rihanna should ask her fans to upload videos of them sneaking into different places and unexpectedly blasting BBHMM while throwing money and confetti around. Now that seems like a pretty easy viral campaign to start.

Viral videos most of the time happens naturally or at least if you're part of a fan base that has strong presence online (One Direction fans for example)

It's YouTube algorithm, sometimes a keyword happens then you get that clip on the recommendation part side so that what usually happens or sometimes when someone famous or a website takes notice of it and features it then it goes viral But usually it is just luck

Lol that Wiz Khalifa thing is #1 on iTunes now. What if that winds up being the song to dethrone Uptown Funk on the Hot 100?

Not sure how much it would have to sell but w/ minimal airplay (or maybe even no noteworthy airplay that I'm aware of) don't see how this has a shot anytime soon. Obviously the song is on fire right now cause the movie *just came out today. If it sells sh*tloads over the wkd it def. has shot to debut in the Top 10 Im assuming?
