Last Friday ended up not hitting number one when the remix was released but actually got it later No the remix sold 45k, which was enough to make LFN #1 for that week. (but they didn't know that) Cuz when the remix started plummeting later on in the week, they freaked out and discounted it. The discount lasted thru the weekend and thru the next week. Dont think she is, but if Katy is part of RCA, than most likely/def. count on a discount for UF coming to a week near you real soon lol.

Oh, it appears UF is rising yet again..fast on iTunes! lol. SYA is now getting constant red updates. While I'm not a fan of SYA, it's not a bad song and considering the mega blockbuster it's a part of, and 'type' of song it is and its timing in the movie etc..I thought it would have like 60-70% lead over everything well into the week! lol

To be fair, i think most people being tired of UF has absolutely nothing to do with One sweet day, when a song stays on top of the chart for more than 5 or 6 weeks, people start to complain. I remember watching the hot 100 on youtube and people complaining about Blurred lines, Happy, Fancy, Rude, All about that bass and Blank Space. In that sense Uptown funk is no different apart of the fact that there's more people complaining because UF ruled the chart during more time. I think the backlash started later in this case because there was a lot of people who really really liked the song.
Here in Spain UF was a hit, but not an inescapable hit, so even i'm not a fan of funk music, i have no visceral reaction when i hear UF.
And i wouldn't say this get so many weeks due lack of competence because Take me to church and Thinking out loud were big big hits (and now Sugar), some of them were at number two with enough billboard points to be number one on other weeks. The timing was perfect, UF get number 1 really fast, and of course it dominated in all formats. There are other things that are in its favour, the lack of a new Mark Ronson or Bruno Mars single helps with the airplay a lot

There are other things that are in its favour, the lack of a new Mark Ronson or Bruno Mars single helps with the airplay a lot That is a big point - nothing really to substitute airplay - even fractionally. The fact that the album really isn't selling that well - has driven people to just pick up the 'hit' track. Also the two of the biggest 'threats' are from third singles off of albums that have sold well ("Sugar" and "TOL"). That doesn't take away from the fact that UF is a giant hit, but it has benefited from a confluence of other factors that just fell into place.

Back during the summer of 1991, people complained en masse about how tired they were of Bryan Adams' "Everything I Do"; It was #1 for 7 weeks, the biggest hit in 8 years. So funny the way our patience has grown in the last 20 years.

well, Everything i do was number one for more weeks that UF at pop. The truth is that song felt massive back then, it was an era with very short number ones that would change soon after that.
Generally people have little patience, i still remember complains and complains when One more night blocked Gagnam style from number one (not me, after four weeks i was more than tired of Gagnam style). And of course the five weeks of Harlem Shake, i still don't understand why videos that didn't even performed the whole song were counted to the chart (without Harlem Shake, Thrift shop reign could be way longer)

So funny the way our patience has grown in the last 20 years. I actually remember how BIG of a deal that was when he got the 7 weeks lol. Nothing since Like A Virgin in 84/85 (6+ years!) came close to the 6 weeks she got w/ that. From 85-91 the charts had *massive turnover over songs in the top 40 and most were very short lived #1s. Polar opposite for the charts from just a few years before. Something changed around '76-'83/84 that caused many songs to almost all have the same pattern when climbing the charts and then falling. Was almost like when a song zoomed into the top 10 (very rare), you 'knew' it was gonna go to #1 and stay there for many, many weeks. It was also rare, even w/ the multiple #1 smashes (for many weeks) in the early 80s for a song to get to #1 in less than 7-8 weeks lol. Most other songs basically tip toed to their peak positions almost every week during that time. Then, they'd all free fall out of the top 40 lol. I loved that chart methodology. Was the most suspenseful yet predictable in many ways if you go back and see how the charts were then.

Otherwise the same 'formula' that started around 1985 would've continued (high turnover w/ very, very few mega #1s). That was 'kind of' equal and as major back then to what happened w/ the chart shake up 2 years ago. Though, I def. think what happened in 2013 was a waay bigger deal and made things super complex. No one cared about Soundscan lol but people DEF. did (and still do today) w/ the changes in 2013. lol

Tighter playlists and a changing radio market have something to do with longer number ones as well.

Katy Perry did a remix for Last Friday Night (which also might have been discounted to 69 cents, but that might have been The One that Got Away, I don't remember), and that did not seem to taint her tying Michael Jackson's record of 5 #1's from one album. It's almost like, if Bruno is going to come close to breaking the all time record, and the single most distinguished Billboard record, of course you would expect his label to try to do something to increase his chances. It would be surprising if they didn't. Any shady tactics will probably get lost in the anals of history. Not saying that it's the right thing to do, but, what would you expect? Spot on. I'm sure (well, you'd def. 'think' they're already in that mode right now). They and the world knows they have the 14th week in the bag. Any actions, if there are any will occur in the 15th and/or 16th week. As of this second, I think Sugar more than EI and SYA is the biggest threat. Only cause of the performance next week and the fact that Sugar refuses to stop gaining lol. Airplay/sales are still all Brunos but by next week it may be super close though I still think overall streaming is UFs biggest firewall and in my gut just don't think Sugar has enough steam to do it. If the team behind the song is super savvy, they've already looked at all the #s and are waiting until that exact moment when it needs to be done. If they did it now, it would def. look desperate but it would also be way premature.

As much as I admire Ronson, let's not act like radio or GP anticipate a new single from him. He actually already performed Feels Right on TV and it didn't even appear on popbars. But he apparenly really doesn't care about chart performence, since he could easily secure some further chart success: he could just persuate Bruno to sing on more tracks, but he did nothing. They even have the same menager.

Somebody Not clear the order of possitions 8-10 I don't think FFS will be in top 10. It lost a lot of airplay and sales and probably streaming as well. If anything it will be #10. Otherwise I think Shut Up And Dance will be #10. But other than that and order of 4-5 I agree with you!

I wonder if we need to start considering GDFR as the possible dethroner as well? It's now outpacing EI on iTunes. Airplay is well below it though. Don't know how it's doing in streaming in comparison. This fight for the next #1 is truly intriguing. It's like there's all these contenders, but none of them can make a strong enough case.

Obviously, the start of BDS and SoundScan resulted in overall lengthier runs at No. 1. For a period of time, we saw the lowest number of No. 1s in a calendar year. Before BDS and SoudScan, stations and stores would cease reporting info on tracks once they had been out a certain amount of time- that way, turnover was much quicker and the charts had lots of newcomers on a regular basis.

Uptown Funk is really close to getting a 4th format #1! On Urban AC, it decreased today and some little known song that is not on any other format or anywhere near the iTunes chart is holding it back :( luckily the #3 is still pretty far away. How many songs have topped at least 4 airplay formats before? I know Happy topped a record 6 (pop, HAC, AC, rhythmic, urban and UAC) and I think All Of Me topped five (same as Happy minus urban) and STIUTK topped 5 (pop, HAC, AC, alternative and triple a) and RITD topped 4 (pop, HAC, AC, Triple A). What others were there? EDIT: also Blurred Lines (same as Happy minus AC) and Royals (pop, HAC, urban, alternative and triple a) Royals came really close to #1 on AC and rhythmic so it could've had 7 :'(

Well if it's #1 it's obviously not a "little known song" to fans of the radio format of which you are clearly not one...

UF actually has more audience from UAC than the #1 song (or any other song for that matter) so clearly more of the fans of UAC listen to UF than to the other song. The DJ's of that just spin that song more hence why it is #1 because rankings on individual formats go by spin totals. Not just because of this scenario, but in general I feel like they should go with audience like they do with overall airplay. IMO it's a more accurate representation of the order of most popular songs on a given format...

We ALL KNOW that if Mediabase charts were ranked by audience, you'd be the first one to complain if your song had more spins the #1 song.

This record-setting/breaking situation seems to have brought out an especially obnoxious and unpleasant side of a lot of posters.
Maybe we're a little too invested? It's great to be passionate about our hobbies/extracurricular interests, but...not when it turns us into something insufferable. Idk.

^ There you go. Wasn't long, but it def. did and actually stayed in just the 50-60% range for a while. Too long lol. Oh, I thought you meant the 40s as in the 40-49th most downloaded song lol! What is the website where you get the information you showed btw? Can anyone access it for free?

-I'm still not tired of UF. I think it's one of the absolute best hits we've been given in the past few years. The fact that a modern day pop-funk song has smashed this hard makes me hopeful that other left-of-center songs can kill at radio, too, instead of the usual sugar cane-bred Pop songs, like...well..."Sugar". -Records are made to be broken. If they stayed the same forever, nothing would be fun.

-Records are made to be broken. If they stayed the same forever, nothing would be fun. Exactly my point! Mariah fans should realize that the fact that OSD held the record for more than 19 years is still an amazing achievement! Blurred Lines had nearly lost the airplay audience record in just a matter of months lol Thank you for agreeing with me!
