lol. it would be oh so awkward but hilarious I think you just described Eurovision. Eurovision is hilarious if you comment on internet or your tv channel has a good host like Graham Norton (not like spanish ones who are boring as hell). Of course the votes are a lot less funny (specially if you don't have a lot of neighbours voting for you no matter how crappy your song was), but the rest it's pretty funny, from the awkward interviews, the poor russian contestants who have a hard time in the last years, the who is sleeping with who rumours, the incredibly awful songs with incredibly bad choreographies, and of course the four of five good songs that are always there even in bad years

If Pretty Girls sells 250k+ and has some streaming and airplay, it will surely have enough points to be top 5 this week.

The dominance of Latin America on the worldwide Vevo chart is staggering. Also Propuesta Indecente is over 2 years old, they need to let it go.

Even if she passes Roar it's still an incredible feat to have a top 20 video two years later and when Katy launches her next era it'll get an even bigger boost.

I bet Bad Romance would've toppled Empire State Of Mind with YouTube. easily. I'm pretty sure Teenage Dream would've had 6 number ones if YouTube was included. And Katy would be at 11 (The One That Got Away and Wide Awake) number ones if YouTube was included pre teenage dream. Teenage Dream did have 6 number ones. It's just that Billboard started counting re-releases as separate albums for no apparent reason. The re-releases of The Emancipation of Mimi and Confessions were still considered the same album as their originals (as well as all re-releases before 2012 as long as not too many tracks were added), and they got credit for multiple number ones from one album, it doesn't make sense TD shouldn't.

It might suck for Katy fans that it changed when it did, but it's still a good rule IMO. Singles on a re-release obviously have an advantage over times when albums like Bad had a lot of singles because new singles for a re-release aren't already owned by people who bought the album. It's easy for their digital sales and other factors to be high because they are essentially new singles. Re-releases didn't exist in the '80s. Should chart rules never change so that they are always consistent, or should they adapt with the times?

Because TD was in contention of breaking the record and the others weren't.

Top 10 flashbacks for this week 1 year ago (5/17/2014)
1 2 All Of Me - John Legend (1st week of 3 @ #1)2 1 Happy - Pharrell Williams 3 NE Problem - Ariana Grande feat. Iggy Azalea Ah yes, that moment when Ariana was just inches away from debuting at #1 and/or getting a #1 at all :( that may have been the only chance at #1 she'll ever get... and shouldn't 10 years ago say 2005 not 2000?

Ariana has only built her fanbase since then. This time last year, she was still definitely on the B or C team for pop stars. She's an A-lister now, and the first single for her new album (which will be out this year) will definitely be in contention for a #1 debut if the material is strong.

Here is what happened with the whole Michael Jackson - Katy Perry thing. Billboard did not alter policies or change a thing.
Katy Perry had 6 number ones from all releases of Teenage Dream. That did not change and they said as such.
What they went out of their way to say was, the record for most number ones from a SINGLE release was and still is - FIVE. No policy change, no all of a sudden we are going to do one thing instead of another to protect Michael Jackson. No Uptown Funk conspiracy or anything else for that matter.
Just a matter of semantics

Who would've thought two songs would each have over 5 million U.S. Spotify streams in a single week? Spotify's business is really growing a lot by the day! :O

Cant believe how LITTLE music has changed looking at those songs from 2007, 2002 and even 1997 to some degree! We're talking 8-18 years ago yet *many of those songs easily could be released today and don't or barely sound dated at all.

No policy change, no all of a sudden we are going to do one thing instead of another to protect Michael Jackson. No Uptown Funk conspiracy or anything else for that matter. Just a matter of semantics That is not how they continue to frame it. Billboard (and most other media sources, Billboard set the precedent) continue to state quite frequently that Katy Perry only ties Michael Jackson's record of 5 number ones from one album, they do not mention the caveat of "per single release" and that she really holds the record of 6 when including all releases of one album. Especially comparing it to Usher's Confessions album, that I clearly remember was referred to as having four number ones from one album, even though one of the number ones was on the re-release. So they clearly did change the methodology after that. But your right, it is all about semantics and people can have it their way if they want to say TD only had five number ones. If they say that though, and I'm not just referring to you Gary or other posters here, but all media outlets in general, they have to be consistent and have to separate all chart achievements per each release of an album.

KATY PERRY'S SWEET 'DREAM' Hi Gary, I just read the billboard.com article regarding "The Complete Confection," Katy Perry's deluxe/special edition re-release of her "Teenage Dream" album. The article mentioned that the new set will contain "three new songs, as well as four re-workings of her 'Dream' hits, along with the original album in its entirety." The article goes on to say, "Perry and [Michael] Jackson will remain tied for the most Billboard Hot 100 toppers from any album regardless of the performance of any singles from 'Confection.' Should any song released from 'Confection' reach No. 1, it would count as a Hot 100 No. 1 from 'Confection' and not 'Dream'." I'm confused. Has there been a change in Billboard chart policy? This special edition is constructed in a way no different than those that were released in recent years by Rihanna, Beyonce, Usher and many more artists. In all those cases, singles that served as new material were credited as part of their original album's chart statistics when they eventually charted. For instance, Rihanna's tally of Hot 100 top 10s from "Good Girl Gone Bad" stands at five - three from the original version of the album ("Umbrella," "Hate That I Love You," "Don't Stop the Music") and two from the "Reloaded" edition ("Take a Bow," "Disturbia"). I don't see how Perry's special edition is any different from those of these other artists. Since Perry has caused such a brouhaha by tying Michael Jackson's record of most No. 1 songs from a single album - five from "Dream"; six from "Bad" in 1987-88 - and attempting to break the same with the sixth single, "The One That Got Away," I'm sure there will be much attention paid to the chart fortunes of any of the three new tracks on "Confection," including first single "Part of Me." Thanks, Gary, for shedding light on this interesting new twist in the Perry/Jackson derby. Cheers! Christopher Brisson Los Angeles, California Hi Christopher, Thanks for the e-mail. I asked Billboard's director of charts, Silvio Pietroluongo, to address how Billboard will consider the angle going forward. Essentially, Billboard never analyzed the issue as thoroughly as until Perry matched Jackson and the possibility arose that Capitol Records would re-release of "Dream" in expanded form. At that point, the charts department considered that, as the practice of releasing deluxe editions has become fairly common in recent years, our commentary going forward will always need to be spell out exactly what feats we're highlighting. ("Part of Me" is due to debut on next week's Hot 100). Here is Pietroluongo's response: Billboard has attempted to do its best when linking singles to their appropriate parent albums but it has admittedly become a difficult task. As you know, the past few years have seen an increase in the practice of re-released or re-packaged albums, which have taken on many different forms. Some labels have tacked on one additional track to an album early in its chart life. Some even do so just for a digital release (i.e., Universal Republic's recent strategy for Jessie J's "Domino" on the digital version of "Who You Are"). Then, we see albums with just a few tracks tacked on in a modified version (think: Rihanna's "Reloaded"). Other albums receive a more extensive makeover, like Perry's upcoming "Dream" redux. So, I'm not going to say that Billboard has changed its policy on how we count such sets, since we really did not have a hard and fast rule to begin. However, when a record such as most No. 1s from an album comes into question, we do need to closely examine how we treat the situation, probably much more than was needed when we were tallying Rihanna's top 10 count from "Girl/Reloaded." We believe that the proper course of action going forward is to clearly qualify chart counts from either being from an album's initial release or its re-released version; and, keep the chart records separate, accordingly. Unfortunately, it's likely not going to end some of the murkiness, especially when a song or songs are added to an album relatively early in its existence. So, if we say that, "Perry and Jackson are tied for the most Hot 100 leaders from an album over one release," we're at least qualifying the parameters of the statistic. If Perry's new single, "Part of Me," hits No. 1 on the Hot 100, we could also say that, "Perry has tallied six Hot 100 No. 1s from 'Teenage Dream' and its re-released version. She remains tied with Jackson for the most toppers from an album over one release." (I also hope that whomever is tasked to do this research, say, 20 years from now will be able to tell all these album versions apart because we can tell you that keeping track of the many variations that have been released in the past few years has proven to be among our more difficult chores). Capitol and Perry, too, are content to have matched Jackson's esteemed milestone. "It was an incredible honor to tie the King of Pop's Billboard Hot 100 record, but I'm moving forward and had a few things left to get off my chest," she said in a press release promoting "Confection." "This is the complete special edition of my album for my fans."

I never thought it made sense for a deluxe version or re-release that had a #1 single to count towards the original release. It makes no sense unless the deluxe was released at the same time as the album.
Definitely can be confusing tho.

Yea, one can release 5 version of one album and each new version can contain a new #1 so basically it's possible to get let's say 9 number ones from one album. That's unlikely of course but still possible.
