Fifth Harmony on its way to the top 20, who would have that low rated and canceled X Factor US would produce a far more successful act than top rated The Voice? Well, the X Factor was much better at finding STARS than the other shows... Too bad it's ratings were bad. :( Surf, I love ya, but...what? American Idol obviously, hands down, produced the biggest stars of any US reality-TV singing competition. The show's dragged on way longer than it should've, so winning doesn't amount to nearly as much as it once did, but US X Factor never produced a Kelly Clarkson or Carrie Underwood. Hell, Fifth Harmony still haven't even matched Clay Aiken's success...or Daughtry's...or Jordin Sparks's...etc.

Yep, I remember when I had a pet tiger {Spoiler} I'm being sarcastic It's just weird when people pull out one line from a song to disprove a point about an entire song; one line doesn't necessarily represent a full song. Wait have you not heard the song? Because the lyrics are absurd.

It wasn't mentioned in the Billboard article, but Mariah's "Infinity" debuts at No. 82.For the last 26 years, it was only in 2007 that she didn't have a Hot 100 entry. This is true if "All I Want For Christmas Is You" is counted as a 2012 Hot 100 entry. Kind of weird to just skip a year? I am not 100% sure but I think Madonna had a song on the hot 100 every year from 1983-2006. 24 years without skipping a year. (I think 88 was the weird year with causing a commotion spending a few weeks on in January.) Elton John managed something like 30+ years in a row of charting.

You're right about Madonna. Elton John had a hot 100 hit in every year between 1970-2000. www.billboard.com/articles/news/1047648/ask-billboard

Elton John carried that one further and was top 40 with at least one song from 1970-1999. 2000 was alas the end of the line. 'Someday Out of The Blue' managed only #49

I'm glad Nasty Freestyle is #9. I can't remember the last time I found a song so catchy.

Phillip Phillips won idol after X factor was brought to the U.S. And has had big success But that's all. X Factor got Fifth Harmony, and was on the verge of a great artist with Emblem3 and Bea Miller. Not to mention the late Simone Battle... American Idol and X Factor are 2 of the only competition shows I can name someone successful from as compared to say America's Got Talent, Rising Star, and even The Voice. Phillip Phillips fizzled out after the first album to, so that's what I meant by commercially successful superstar. The X Factor looks for performers, American Idol looks for a voice. (Although this season they've found some potential superstars especially if Big Machine treats them better than Interscope did)

Bigger than Fifth Harmony imo, despite not having a charting song. No offense to Lindsey because I love her, but I don't consider her a superstar, although she is a recognizable name which is a step up from a lot of other contestants that come on the show. Also what season was she on? I don't remember her on there.

Also what season was she on? I don't remember her on there. She has over a billion youtube views, her first album sold around 350k and her second album debuted at #2 last year. I'd say she's pretty big. She's performing in Budapest soon and I've been seeing her posters everywhere for weeks. <3 I'm not sure, but a google search would give a quick result probably. Fair enough. My only point was that out of all the talent shows (recently) the only show I can really think of that did the best at promoting and finding performers that could make it into the mainstream was the X Factor.
