HDD did an interview with Def Jam CEO Steve Bartels and they gave some US label stats + an update on Iggy:



"In addition to Justin, Iggy Azalea seems to be having some public growing pains. What did you think when you heard she was canceling the fall tour after having postponed it from the spring?
I think it was more of a timing issue. She’s working on new music right now. She’s extremely talented, so going out there with new music and touring behind it is obviously the right play. It’s been a long, grueling process for her, and she’s eager to get in the studio and start recording her next project. Once that all comes together, I’m confident everyone will completely understand."

It's incredible she's their #1 since the Island Def Jam Music Group split on April 2014 tho (funny it matched the start of her mainstream breakthrough as well lol), I also thought Bieber and Rihanna were no longer with Def Jam for some reason? Hmm I hope they still have a nice budget saved for her next era, she's more than earned it

This is Rihanna's final album on her deal with Def Jam which is one reason why her era so far has been kind of messy. When it comes to Iggy, I'm glad the label is still their support her. She made Def Jam last year.

I find it weird that they're still keeping up the ruse that the tour was postponed and cancelled because of new music while at the same time saying her new music isn't coming in the super near future. Why not just admit that sales weren't where they needed to be? Everybody knows it.

All we got were a few unofficial reports of certain publications who apparently asked "some venues" for stats which was already shady by itself, plus it was just another excuse for people to hate on her and claim how "over" she is etc etc so ofc "everybody" went along/ran with it but regardless, I still don't think that was the only reason for the cancellation anyway. They could've just downgraded the venues or whatever if the idea was to just get her to tour period. I think it was a combination of it most likely rly not being a big commercial success at that point (and it was still early I mean by now the tour would still be a couple months away after the postponement lol..) but also the lacking marketing investment and campaign that it would need + her not wanting to put out new music anytime soon was only going to make it harder to promote the tour + not getting who they wanted to open and perhaps creative issues regarding the production and her not being able to get what she wanted like she first hinted at as well..

Iggy Azalea; if you don't know her name then you must have been living under a rock for the past few years. When the Aussie rapper hasn't been making hit music she's been making headlines, whether it be for celebrity feuds or daring outfits, one thing remains the same and that's her unwavering stoicism for staying true to herself.
We sat down with the 25-year-old Mullumbimby native in celebration of the Bonds 100th year anniversary with Iggy, the new classic, wriggling into a pair of old classics as the brand ambassador.

Despite her recent run in with the media and general public backlash we were fully expecting her to withold, but true to her character she was authentic, candid and...well...Iggy.

MTV Style: You’re originally from Mullumbimby, do you ever think about what you might be doing now if you never moved to the States to pursue a career in music?

I would probably be doing something extremely boring. I cleaned hotel floors for a while, so that was pretty awesome. I always knew it was rap or bust.

MTV Style: Do you prefer a good pair of trackies or a red carpet gown?

Absolutely a good pair of trackies. A red carpet gown is so labour intensive – you have to pick it out, then have it tailored (if it even can be), and then have a million pictures taken of you in it. A good pair of trackies is essential.

MTV Style: Do you plan on wearing a good old pair of Bonds cotton tails on your wedding day?

100%, yes.

MTV Style: Have you thought about approaching Bonds to do a custom Bonds wedding gown?

Hmmm…I can’t say I have. While I really believe in the brand’s ability to think outside the box, I don’t know if I would go that far.

MTV Style: Have you picked out your dress yet?

Maybe I have….maybe I haven’t.

MTV Style: Have you picked out your bridesmaids dresses?

No, definitely not haha.

MTV Style: Has Demi (Lovato) helped you out a lot with the wedding planning?

I’m taking a pretty active role in every aspect of the wedding, but I’m definitely running certain things and ideas by my friends like Demi. Thanks.

MTV Style: If you could design a custom pair of underwear for Bonds called the “Iggy’s” what would they look like?

Hmm…they would probably just be a Bonds classic with a slight twist…maybe an extra splash of color or something simple like that. But I would basically play off the original as a general rule.

MTV Style: We love that you always take risks on the red carpet, do you have a stylist or is that your own personal touch?

I have a stylist, she is also my best friend Alejandra. She is my style muse but we definitely collaborate on all my looks…after all, I’m the one wearing them so I have to feel comfortable in my own skin when I’m walking down that carpet.

MTV Style: Do you have one particular outfit you regret wearing?

Not really…I look back at a few of them and think hmmmmm…maybe could have gone for a different option that night, but at the end of the day it’s all part of a progression in my own mind and also of my image.

MTV Style: Have you ever had any on stage wardrobe malfunctions?

Yes…I once split my pants at a Bar Mitzvah hahahaha. All the boys had their phones out in literally a split second.

MTV Style: If you could do a designer collaboration with anyone in the world who would it be with?

Hmm…I would say Valentino.

MTV Style: If you could be reborn which era do you think best suits your style?

Definitely the '80s.

MTV Style: Do you feel or have you ever felt pressure to look a certain way?

Absolutely, every girl feels the pressure to have a certain type of body, or be able to look good in a certain type of outfit. It’s only natural when there are beauty standards in play.

MTV Style: What advice would you give to young girls struggling with their body image?

You have to be comfortable in your own skin…if you’re not, you have no hope of becoming a unique individual.

MTV Style: You’re always so animated in your video clips – any chance you see an acting career in your future?

Absolutely…I actually played a small role in the Fast and the Furious 7….it was easy to miss, but I have actually started my acting career. I even have an agent!

MTV Style: Where do you see yourself in five years time?

Hopefully still making music in a tasteful manner. I hate seeing my idols from my teens turn into washed up pop stars. I definitely don’t want to ever be that.

MTV Style: What message would you have for any haters out there?

There’s a song on my new album called “Middle Man.” I’ll let the music do the talking.

On plastic surgery and whether she’s had a nose job: "I'm not denying it. Denying it is lame. I don't think you should be ashamed if you made a change to yourself, which is why I've spoken about the changes I've made, like with my breasts. Your perception of yourself can change a lot over time, so I think it's important to wait and make sure it's the right choice. I read a lot about nose jobs online. Some women are really happy they got them, and some women changed their noses when they were younger, and when they got older they wished they didn't. Plastic surgery is an emotional journey. It's no easy feat to live with your flaws and accept yourself—and it's no easy feat to change yourself. Either way you look at it, it's a tough journey. There are things that I didn't like about myself that I changed through surgery. There are other things I dislike but I've learned to accept. It's important to remember you can't change everything, you can never be perfect."

On whether her looks are under more scrutiny now: “It’s hard to be a woman in 2015 with social media. There’s so much more emphasis on taking pictures of ourselves and the ‘likes’ or people commenting on them. There’s a lot more pressure to look beautiful. Some days I just want to look like s*** and feel okay with that.”

In light of all this, I half expect a beaten-down Azalea, but instead I get a breezy Aussie, excitedly chatting about future plans.

I shouldn’t be surprised. She did, after all, rap on her single Work: Two feet in the red dirt, school skirt Sugar cane, back lanes Three jobs, took years to save But I got a ticket on that plane People got a lot to say But don’t know sh*t about where I was made… How does she feel about the backlash against her? I ask. “I didn’t do anything different,” she says. “Everyone hated the same thing they loved one summer ago, which is kind of funny.”

With the benefit of time to reflect, is there anything she’d have done differently? She sighs. “I think everyone has things they wished they didn’t say, especially when you’re young, and especially when you’re an artist and you’re trying to get out there and you want to be more controversial. “It’s unfortunate if people make it about you being prejudiced or insensitive. “I’m not, and I don’t want people to think that’s my character. You wouldn’t, either. “Who would want that, besides Donald Trump?”

For now, she’s looking ahead.

She says part of cancelling the tour was about finding a new direction for her album, which she hopes to release in January, as the work she was doing felt stale. “It was important I made something I loved,” she explains. “Right now, I’m doing that. I feel really excited about it and I think my fans will be really excited about it.

“It’s nerve-racking when you have success to make something that sounds totally different. “Will people like it? Will this isolate half my fan base? I don’t know, but I have to take a risk and do something that makes me happy to come into work.”

Risk-taking is her bread and butter. It would be foolish to dismiss Azalea after what she’s already achieved. “I came into this pushing the envelope and I want to continue to, so it’s important I’m doing that sonically,” she says. “People will be very surprised. There’s no way they won’t be, because it’s very… interesting.”

What advice does she have for young Aussie girls trying to break into hip-hop? “Man, it’s tough but it’s worth it,” she says. “Just be unique. That’s kind of ironic for me to say, because I do rap with an American accent and that is me trying to fit in, but I still think I’m not stereotypical. “People want to see and hear different voices and unique individuals. “I spent a long time looking at my idols and wanting to make things the way they did, and sometimes I sacrificed my originality. “When I started experimenting, I had success, so that’s the most important thing.

Isn’t that clichéd? To really be yourself. “It’s hard in rap music, especially because there are a lot of stereotypes about what a rapper should be. “I think it’s cooler when you’re totally unexpected.”
