Jermaine Dupri reveals he tried to sign Iggy Azalea, "she's very talented"

Jermaine Dupri is such an interesting character with several life and career experiences. So it would only make sense that he sat down with Wendy Williams. During their recent interview, Dupri talked about everything from tax problems, how Iggy Azalea curved him and his relationships with Janet Jackson and Mariah Carey.

After being asked his thoughts on the Australian rapper, Dupri revealed he actually tried to sign her early in her career:
"She needs somebody like me in her life. I tried to sign Iggy and that’s why I say that. I tried to sign her from the beginning. I called her, I sent her a tweet, I think, and she thought I was trying to get at her because she’s fine, you know what I mean.. I think at this particular point in time she had a record called "Pussy"... And I sent a message, "Yo I like you, I think you're dope and I would love to sign you." She kind of gave me the 'send my manager, hit my manager' and I'm like, you know, when I talk to artists, I talk directly to the artist. I have a relationship with the artist, so she kind of shunned me. But I mean that didn’t make me not like her, I feel like she’s very talented, I just think she... artists are not people that know everything, that’s why you have a mentor like myself or you have a Clive Davis, an L.A. And the tragic TNC/Reclassified separate reissue thing literally screwing everything up in her era after (not that it would've prob done THAT much better lol but still) + BFI not getting a video killing her chances at what was shaping up to likely become another very nice hit are both still very annoying situations that you'd hope her team's learned from, but since we're talking about Iggy everything will most likely just keep being even messier somehow.

"Hi guys, just came to give some updates on how everything is progressing for me. Im starting to feel excited for 2016 but also nervous.
I have played (give or take a few small changes) my album to @cthagod who kindly came and listened to it.
He was surprised i had been working and not crying in a fetal position on my couch. i told him i did do a bit of that this year. hahaha
He seemed to understand alot of the direction, and gave me honest feed back. I feel good about it.
Also i ended up writing some last minute hooks with @beberexha and her writing partner a few days last week and really enjoyed my time.
she also convinced me to ugly-sing and it turned out great. i felt very out of my comfort zone, which is always when the good stuff happens."

someone asks whats ugly-sing: "its like, when you sing from your belly instead of tryna sing cute."
someone asks an update on Zillion: "welp. the update is its all happening after christmas as planned and looking good. "
on the bebe collab: "bebe isnt feat. vocally, we just co-wrote some hooks... the collaboration is only lyrical."

She's been spilling a bunch of info on Twitter, I'll post some of the relevant stuff:

The lead single is called "Team": "meaning: ive got my own back, i iam my own team. 20% meaningful 70% bop 10% ratchet"
Won't be "singing" any more on this album than she did last time, the "ugly singing" she mentioned is "like yelling/singing. shouting melodically"
She did some things for Diplo, not sure if he'll use them or not.
Lead single isn't coming in January - "but content, buzz songs, viral videos and other cool stuff in Jan."
She hinted wanting to release the album in April (to celebrate 2 years of The New Classic) but isn't sure if that'll work out until stuff starts coming out.
The Invisible Men don't have any production on the new album (they did most of her first).
Is "Team" radio friendly? "FANS decide whats radio friendly by requesting and streaming etc. so i cant say myself... who knows." " i feel like radio takes so many leads from online stats, now fans have power to bring things to radios attention. we will see!"
"i think my new sound in a way is my mixtape sound mixed with my newer stuff. i really like it."

So Middle Man should be dropping mid-month on Soundcloud going by what she's been tweeting fans. She's also shooting the Zillion video with some french guy so that should be out around February. I assume we'll get "Team" after that in like late February/early March, around the same period as "Fancy" then.

I gotta say, this is the most interesting Iggy has ever been to me and I actually liked most of The New Classic. Hopefully, she keeps off social media this time around.
