I just don't understand how SYA is STILL getting 4M+ updates. It's not like it's on that many formats. In fact, SUAD actually outgained SYA in spins on pop today. I guess all I can do is just remain hopeful that SYA slows down (there's no way SUAD will speed up more than it already has). It would just suck to see those great gains for SUAD go to waste because of bad timing.

It would suggest that it is a song that is clicking with a lot of people around the country. The band is going to make their money. Whether or not the song hits #1 over and above all other songs affects fans of the song on a personal and emotional level differently I suppose.

Vance Joy's 'Riptide' Sets a Chart Record in Australia News /By Lars Brandle | May 11, 2015 5:57 AM EDT
Comments 0Vance Joy's hit "Riptide" (Liberation Music) has established a new record for the most weeks in the Top 100 of Australia’s singles chart. The Melbourne singer-songwriter’s breakthrough song has now spent 107 consecutive weeks on the ARIA Singles Chart. Vance’s chart feat bests the 106 weeks set by Lady Gaga’s "Poker Face" and the 105 weeks for The Black Eyed Peas "I Gotta Feeling," neither of which were consecutive runs.
"Riptide" bowed on the singles chart in Vance’s homeland on April 29, 2013, and peaked at No. 6 on Feb. 3, 2014. According to ARIA, it spent five weeks in the Top 10 and 45 weeks in the Top 50. The next best result by a homegrown recording belongs to Gotye’s "Somebody That I Used To Know," which stayed in the Top 100 for 89 weeks from 2011 to 2013.
It’s the latest in an impressive -- and growing -- list of accolades for Vance (real name James Keogh). Just last week, "Riptide” scooped the 2014 International Songwriting Competition. Joy’s trophy cabinet includes the coveted song of the year and pop work of the year categories at the 2014 APRA Awards, and he won Australian radio network Triple J’s Hottest 100 poll. The track cracked the top 10 in the U.K. and reached No. 30 on the Billboard 200, en route to selling more than 1 million units globally.
Vance Joy's 'Riptide' Wins Grand Prize in 2014 International Songwriting Competition
Vance joins Taylor Swift as the main support for her 1989 World Tour, which starts May 20 at CenturyLink Center in Bossier City.

I don't remember a time when Riptide wasn't hanging around the periphery of pop music.
I wish it would just go away at this point.
And how has it only sold a million units globally?

See You Again is well ahead of Shut Up And Dance in streaming which will hopefully be enough to block it if it gets close in both sales and airplay.

Funny how consistently close "Uptown Funk" and "Sugar" have been to each other on the decline.

^Did her label not push it until now? The song got a lot of attention when they video came out, it's bizarre to me that they would wait until months later to push at radio.

Not sure, it was originally sent to radio in 2013 (The Weekend version), and the solo version supposedly sent in February. On HAC it's been a case of +4/+2/-5 for weeks, was on AC top 50 for a while, was following the same path on pop and suddenly jumped to +90s. It's been performed a bunch of times (SNL, The Voice, just to name a few). I wish they had just pushed radio more when the video came out :/ At least streams aren't dead and sales are still okay.

Wow i totally forgot Everything falls apart. And even after listening the song i only vaguely remember the song. It could be because the song never was released here in spain, but as far as i remember the only gin blosson's song that was released here was Till i hear it from you, and i remember clearly Follow you down. And old man and me was not released here either, but i remember it as well

Not sure, it was originally sent to radio in 2013 (The Weekend version) It was, but it wasn't. As I recall at Pop at least, it had an adds date that was pulled the day of at that time. I'm telling you, Trap Queen is going to be the next #1. It has to do one of two things in order for that to happen: 1) Do something about SYA's sales + airplay leads - most likely, take over the lead on streaming and jump out to an absurd high on that score. 2) Hope and pray for a SYA deflation. I'd wager that unless the latter happens, both soon and to a great degree, that Trap Queen just won't be able to pull it off.
