Yeah. It also shattered the previous record by not only making it to number one on BB, but debuting there(, in case you hadn't heard)...

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Country star Garth Brooks said Tuesday he will simulcast the final night of a sold-out series of nine shows here in more than 300 movie theaters nationwide.
Tickets to see the simulcast of the country star's Nov. 14 show will go on sale Friday for $10, plus handling fees, at fathomevents.com and garthbrooks.com, with a limit of 10 tickets per person. Tickets will also be sold for a rebroadcast of the show on Nov. 15.
Brooks, who hasn't toured since 1998, tied his own record for selling the highest number of tickets in any city in North America with the sale of the Kansas City shows at downtown's new Sprint Center.
The Nov. 14 concert will be aired through National CineMedia, an in-theater advertising and promotions company operated by the three largest theater chains, Regal Entertainment Group, AMC Entertainment Inc. and Cinemark USA Inc.

By Matea Gold, Los Angeles Times Staff Writer October 16, 2007 Response to a special edition of his hits collection at the nonprofit's website is too great to handle online. Country music superstar Garth Brooks' announcement this morning that he's releasing a special edition of his forthcoming three-disc "The Ultimate Hits" album to benefit Susan G. Komen for the Cure overwhelmed the breast-cancer awareness organization's website, forcing volunteers to switch to phones to continue fielding pre-order requests. The "pink edition" of Brooks' album will be available exclusively on www.komen.org starting Nov. 6, with $10 of the $15 purchase price going directly to the group.

I've been out of the loop lately. I did a quick google search. Here's what I found - in a nutshell:
Video release : Oct 19 CD Release: Nov 6 Simulcast Concert : Nov 15
With all the news swirling (the komen chairty, the additional concerts, the silver screen simulcast) I now have no doubt MTAM will make it back to #1 and IMO it looks like Brooks CD will debut at #1 and sell tons.
Any hint of how many pre-orders have been made?

The marketing for this cd is so impressive and the price point is insanely low and with 10 dollars of the "Pink Edition", out of 15, going to charity that is huge.

Yes it did, it debuted at #1 with a 4k bullet - one of the most controversal moments in country music this year (well chart wise lol)! One chart, a more 'unofficial' chart had Reba McEntire & Kelly Clarkson at the top on the final day while the one that leans more toward what Billboard, AllAccess and countdown programs use had Garth debut @ #1 on the final day. Its the chart 99% of everyone goes by on this board as well. The following week he plunged to #8 giving up the top spot to Rascal Flatts ...such a controversal week it was! (Enough to drag me to pay attention to it lol *points to name*)

Actually Mediabase is the chart no one uses and it did not actually end up at #1 on Mediabase's published chart.
Billboard uses a different system BDS airplay and has and different panel. Billboard is the chart most people refer to.

I think we are looking at the record of the year and its from a guy that hasn't had an album of all new material in six years!

Personally, I LOVE this song... but I hate what was done by those in control to get it a #1 debut on one of the 2 major charts...

Billboard is the chart most people refer to. Actually FWIW... the industry standard is the Mediabase chart... but the general public usually goes by Billboard... it really depends on whom you're talking to as to which one they are referring to... Carrie has 4 #1's on the Country chart when you look at the Mediabase numbers, but only 3 when you use Billboard...

That station in Tampa which played this song 125 times in its opening week didn't do anybody any favors. [/b] That is so stupid and reprehensible; there aren't nearly enough words in the dictionary to descrtibe how imbecilic that is.[/quote] Reminds me of the two stations that were playing George Strait's "She Let Herself Go" 35x a week in overnights just to help get him up to #1... I really hate to see this kind of thing...

Like I said... it really boils down to who you're talking to... if you're talking to someone who is representing Garth, then they will probably go with the Billboard position... If you're talking to someone in the industry without a Garth affiliation, they will probably go with the #4 position of mediabase... if you go with someone in the general public that is more aware of Billboard then they would probably go with the #1 position recorded there...

Do you have any examples of Mediabase being used as the industry standard? I would think Mediabase would be less credible since they don't even publish the method they use to rank songs. At least with Billboard everyone knows the chart is ordered by audience; no one knows too much about Mediabase's points system.

Come on Billboard is the industry standard and everyone in the industry will call it a #1 hit. Everyone talks about Billboard and that includes people in the music industry not just fans.

Thanks for the link. The video reminds me a whole lot of "The Thunder Rolls". I guess it's all the rain on the hat footage. I don't know how the rain applies here, but, whatever.... I guess Garth wants to take the fans right back to the mid 90s when he was in his prime, huh?

Mediabase publishes their charts weekly in the USA Today and also their charts are used on the weekend countdowns you may hear on your local Country radio station... I'm not sure what Mediabase's point system would have to do with anything other than it's a mystery to most of those not in the industry or working for a radio station with ready access to their info.
