On its way back to #1. Anyone still in denial about the power of Garth?? And I thought that those of us predicting a U-shaped chart run were crazy... You mean you aren't??! :o

Can anyone list the song's chart run at Billboard (where it debuted #1) and/or Mediabase (where I guess it debuted at #4 but was #1 mid-week)?

Another accomplishment this song could shoot for: the most weeks in the Billboard top 10 for any song peaking in 2007 (so far) is 17 by Watching You. My Wish was there for 16 weeks. Because of Garth's unusual chart run, he could surpass those totals. He'll get his 9th week next week, and maybe he's just warming up. Certainly if he's going to get back to #1, it will take him another 5 weeks or so to get that far.

Does anyone else think that this song could spend its entire chart run in the top 10? I know it's a long shot, and would almost certainly require him to go back to #1, but I think it's possible. I don't know for sure, but it would most likely be the only song to ever do that.

So it NEVER reached #1 on Mediabase?

So it NEVER reached #1 on Mediabase? No, because 1) the panels are different and 2) Mediabase uses a formula that kept the song for getting there. "More Than A Memory" was played by major stations in prime time meaning it amassed a HUGE amount of audience. That allowed it to go #1 on Billboard.

One more factor: Garth's song began getting airplay on a Monday morning, which gave it a full 7 day week on Billboard (Monday through Sunday) but only 6 days on Aircheck (Monday through Saturday). I think it might have been #1 on the charts and countdowns that use MB if it had had a full 7 days.
It wasn't #1 on Sunday, which counts for MB, but by Monday morning it had 1.5 million impressions more than Rodney Atkins did for the previous 7 days. But of course with the points system it's impossible to be sure that would have been sufficient to get the song to #1.

It's hard to be #1 working on only 6 chart days compared to everyone else's 7.

Just as a technicality (and an anal one at that), it actually was #1 on Mediabase for one day. That day just happened to be the first day of the new chart week for Mediabase (and the last day of the previous chart week for Billboard). So in this case, Mediabase and Billboard were actually in synch on this. It's just that they start and finish their races at different times, which is why they got different results in this race :).

This is why I don't think it was the formulas for determining chart positions so much as it was the differing chart weeks that kept MTAM from officially hitting #1 on Mediabase. The airplay and AI's it accrued the first 7 chart days would have been more than enough to land it at #1 on Mediabase--as you observed.

It will move to #4 on Billboard too -- over the last 7 days it lost about half a million on MB (not sure about the BB number) to Carrie's song during her album release week. Now that she's had her big week, will he be able to pass her in the next two weeks? If so, he'll be in good position to reach #1 again, once Kenny and Dierks are done. He's way ahead of Josh Turner, who's next in line.

How many people have pre-ordered or will buy the new album? I don't know if it's been posted yet, but I pre-ordered the The Ultimate Hits Exclusive “Pink Edition" a while ago: Garth Brooks has joined forces with Susan G. Komen for the Cure in the promise to end breast cancer forever, with the release of the “Pink Edition” of The Ultimate Hits album. The album is a new 3-disc set, and contains 30 classics, 3 new songs and a bonus track on two CDs. The set also includes a DVD with videos for all 33 songs, including new and never-before-seen footage. For every “Pink Edition” of The Ultimate Hits album sold, $10 will go to Komen for the Cure. Each CD is packaged with important information to help you protect your breast health, and the health of people you love. ww3.komen.org/promiseshop/ProductInfo.aspx?productid=706-16239- So if anybody wants to pre-order it online, do it through this site so you can donate as well. It added up to a little over $23 for me, but it's worth it (though, I'm not crazy about the color pink lol)

HDD first-week sales estimate:
The independently distribbed Garth Brooks album Ultimate Hits on Scott Borchetta’s Pearl Records imprint looks like it will do between 200-250k, though the CMAs could boost that number significantly.
(Color me surprised!)

(Color me surprised!) Wow, I expected him to sell at least as much as Kenny/Reba did, and I thought he could sell as much as Carrie/Rascal Flatts. I can't see the CMAs boosting his sales significantly. Will he even be mentioned at all?

I actually thought he would sell more than RF and have the biggest-selling debut of any country album this year. 200-250K and anything less than #1 just seems so unGarth-like. I was also wondering why HDD expects a huge CMA boost, other than just a general expectation that all country albums are likely to get some sort of increase.

i am not that surprised...it is just a hits release with like 3 new songs on it. i dont think many people want to buy a cd set that has about the same songs on it like the last cd he released. i was going to guess 300k so it is a little low...

I certainly don't know of any song that shared the #1 slot at BDS & Mediabase for exactly one day.

I believe Carrie's Don't Forget to Remember Me spent only one day at #1 on MB, but it never did get to #1 on BDS so it failed to share this distinction. As usual, Garth is the only one who can be Garthlike.

I've bought other music video collections for that price that have had 10-12 videos.

HDD update:
FOURTH QUARTER RUSH: Roc-A-Fella’s Jay-Z will top next week’s chart, with American Gangster racking up some 400-425k in sales, more than enough to beat back Wal-Mart’s Eagles at 340-360k. The rest of the Top 10 and then some at last shows some life, with Jive/ZLG’s Chris Brown (300-310k), Pearl’s Garth Brooks (220-230k) and Arista Nashville’s CMA winner Carrie Underwood (125-135k) rounding out a healthy Top 5. Jive’s Britney Spears (95-105k), Reprise’s Josh Groban (90-95k) and Ruff Ryders/J’s debuting Cassidy and Suretone/ Geffen’s new chart entry Angels & Airwaves (both 65-70k) will all be in the Top 10, with Lyric Street’s Rascal Flatts (60-65k), Decca’s Andrea Bocelli (60-65k), Rounder’s Plant/Krauss (55-60k), Disney’s High School Musical 2 (50-55k) and Universal Republic’s Colbie Caillat all in the mix as well. (11/9p)
