Sony Nashville's Executive VP/Artist Development, Steve Hodges, talked with Billboard about his time so far with Sony Nashville since being hired earlier this year. During the interview, he discussed Carrie Underwood and the potential of doing a "surprise album release" along with how many singles we will get from Storyteller

^Not eligible. 412k or so in sales = 824,000. Not enough for Platinum. It's not at all possible that its shipments are over 1 million? Doubt it. Most albums certified Platinum have sales over 950,000. Sales are now 416k = 832,000. If it was eligible, they would have certified it with Storyteller. No 8xP for Some Hearts.

^ Thanks! Is there a link? What did he say regarding surprise album release? BillboardHe was asked in the interview about surprise album releases (like Beyonce and Eric Church) and said that there was already a plan in motion with Storyteller when he and Randy Goodman got there, so they never considered it for that album. The artist has to be strong enough and the label has to have confidence of their reliance on keeping quiet. I doubt we'll see one for any of Sony's artists in 2016, but who knows about the future after that.

Bobby Bones hosted this big charity concert event tonight at the Ryman. Carrie was one of the big surprise guests, along with Little Big Town, Chris Stapleton, Dierks Bentley, and Cam. Basically, a bunch of Grammy nominees that all ended up in one place tonight.

I liked "Someone to Watch Over Me," but I'm not quite sure she caressed the song the way she seemed to be trying. Nice on the Grammys nod, but Chris Stapleton is the favorite to win that one. And with Stapleton, Little Big Town, and Sam Hunt all getting in the general field categories, the odds of Carrie being asked to perform are pretty slim (unless there is a tribute thing where they can fit her in). I'm fairly certain she will perform. She left room on her schedule for the Grammys, and she's a Grammy favorite; she's one of the most frequent performers of the past decade. I think the three you listed AND Carrie will perform... We'll see... How often do they have more than 3 country performers sing their own material at the Grammys? For one I said I liked it, so not sure why you were so defensive. For another, upon repeated viewings I am liking it even more. I just think Carrie can still develop her 'head voice' a bit more so that she has as much strength there as in her belting. It's also just a song where I rarely like the arrangement.

I think Carrie has a big chance of winning. Chris has many nominations, the voters might think giving all the country awards to him will be too much , and probably not vote for him in this category. Cam is still new. The other two is not a threat. Plus Carrie is a Grammy darling. Hopefully she will perform and win. Sam can perform his 45 second just like Hunter Hayes did and then introduced Carrie

Those are my predictions as well, just makes the most sense... They usually spread the wins out within country, I don't see that changing this year. And all four will likely perform, too, which should be awesome! I could see Chris sweeping up the categories, but the Grammys tend to trend against that happening, so I think 'Taste of Country' is spot on with their predictions.

I think it's definitely possible that Carrie wins and I do hope for it! However, I think it's fair to say that "Little Toy Guns" is a much less recognizable song to the general genre voters than either "Blown Away" or "Something in the Water" (two huge career songs). This combined with the tougher competition this year leaves me less confident in a win but at least she would be losing to another quality performance (although I don't care much for Keith's song). Name recognition will help her. Also, I think that the fact that they submitted both "Smoke Break" and "Little Toy Guns" and they didn't completely split the vote and cancel eachother out is a good sign (thinking to when they submitted "Two Black Cadillacs" and "See You Again" and neither ended up nominated). On another note, if given a performance slot I hope she can somehow debut single #3. If not, I'd rather her kill a tribute or something than a performance of "Little Toy Guns" or "Heartbeat".

Anyone got a full video from her performance on X Factor UK? Finally found it! :) The stats are pretty cool to see: - 22 U.S #1 singles - 7 Grammy awards - Over 58 million records sold worldwide

She's won it twice already in the country vocal, and 3 times in female vocal category. She can certainly do it again, but now she has to go up against Chris Stapleton and Cam who are critically acclaimed also.

I don't care how small the genre is, it's crazy to still see "Jesus, Take the Wheel" on any end of year chart...

She makes singing a Martina song look so easy! She's singing in the same key as the original, yet she sounds so effortless. Her voice is nothing short of a national treasure, God bless them pipes! ETA: does anyone else hear the manly groan at the beginning followed by a man saying "feels so good"?... a little out of place, I'd say.

Huh. Must've missed when this happened, but Storyteller gained another point on Metacritic. It now has a 74, her highest-rated album.

Aren't the scores weighted in comparison to other scores (i.e. like a grading curve)? To that end they are always fluctuating a bit, though not much or often. The most recent review added for Storyteller is Country Weekly on Nov 18, so if you hadn't looked since then that may have changed it, too.
