Speaking of Timberlake, Say Something is just as bad as the song Filthy. I kind of don't get the praise for that song. Okay...it's one think to say you don't get the praise for the song and think it's overrated, but to say it's as bad as "Filthy"? 🤯 Need I to remind you some of the lyrical disasters of that song? - And no, this ain't the clean version (proceeds to have a tame song not even labelled explicit) - And what you gonna do with all that meat? (because 'meat' provides such a sexy image) - Haters gon' say it's fake/So real (keep saying it and you'll believe it, darling 😄) At worst, someone could see "Say Something" as uninspired and boring, but it did what it had to do (and suits the "Man Of The Woods" vibe much better than "Filthy"). I just wanted to joke around though - if that's your opinion, that's fine. There have been way worse hot takes on this very thread.

Michael Jackson made bad music You cannot say something this bold and brazen and not even have a shred of decency to explain why you think this.

I think we should make it a rule for this thread that everyone must provide some explanation for whichever unpopular opinion they have.

Unpopular opinion: I don't think it should matter how much explanation someone gives when stating an opinion here, imo that just discourages participation from people who dislike or like something but can't coherently explain why

I don't care much for DSN. It sounds just like a zillion other disco hits from the 70's that I can remember, and therefore it doesn't sound like anything special to me.

I just think it's better to at least explain the basis of said opinion (even if you say 'I can't really explain it' or 'I just irrationally feel that way') rather than just stating it single-handedly. It's probably more of a pet peeve of mine, to be honest. 😁

Some things are just visceral and can't really be put into words. If you have such a reaction to something and you can't really verbalize why, then it's a bit much to force someone to try.

Anyway...back to unpopular opinions and hot takes...
Having recently relistened to it, I can confidently say that, while Panic! At The Disco's "Pray For The Wicked" is admittedly flawed in terms of mixing and production (see the loud and overcrowded choruses of "High Hopes" and "King Of The Clouds"), it's a pretty solid Broadway/'big band'-inspired pop album in its own right, fully embracing its over-the-top nature and occasionally corny lyrics.
Also, while their other projects have much greater heights, I believe "Pray For The Wicked" is perhaps their most lyrically cohesive record, and I love how the album is built like the soundtrack of a Broadway musical about an artist achieving fame and dealing with its not-so pleasant aftermaths amid his own insecurities and doubts, using alcohol as means to numb it all. Some bitter folks claim it's all about partying, bragging, and drinking, but not only is this perspective extremely ignorant, but also fails to perceive the underlying sadness of tracks like "One Of The Drunks" and "Hey Look Ma, I Made It".
So no, Panic! At The Disco hasn't become a soulless sellout act - Brendon Urie just wanted to make a pop album inspired by his experience at Broadway.

I don't mind when artist sell out(they are entitled to doing it and there is many definitions of selling out) but i hate when that said artist(any artist) sells out and it's not good music as before just to get hits.

usually only bad music is criticized for selling out. Good sellout music is praised for being a "pop crossover"

I don't mind when artist sell out(they are entitled doing it) but my issue is when they sell out and it's not good music as before just to get hits. Primary example that came to everyone's minds - Maroon 5"Overexposed" was a great 'sellout' album. The essence of their previous work was still there, but they added the Christina Aguilera and (the utterly unnecessary) Wiz Khalifa features to attract more mainstream attention, plus the made-for-AC hits "Daylight" and "Love Somebody", which still shared sonic similarities with previous hits in that vein like "She Will Be Loved". "V" still had that distinctive Maroon 5 sound, in my opinion, especially with "Maps". However, "Red Pill Blues" and "Memories" are just Adam Levine on autopilot with whoever's hot at the moment, which perfectly describes your sentiment. I can't name any other examples off the top of my head, but this inspired me to give another unpopular opinion: A rock/folk/alternative act going pop does not mean they've sold out. We really need to stop treating pop as 'music for the lowest denominator'. Bands like Paramore moved to pop music and absolutely nailed the genre while retaining their artistry. For me, acts only sell out when they start shamelessly chasing trends without giving their own twist to them, but just to get hits.

While we're at the whole 'boomer' conversation, let me just state for the record that there has been no bad era for music, and that music fans are very often blinded by nostalgia from the era they grew up with.
I vividly remember reading YouTube rants on how music became 'trash' once Lady Gaga and Katy Perry broke out in 2008. It then extended to 2014, and now we have a whole generation calling today's music 'soulless' and 'generic' while praising 2008-2014 as the 'golden age' of music.
It's a vicious cycle of complaining about the current wave of artists and praising a rose-tinted version of the past. Just look at compilations of Best and Worst hit songs for any given year and you soon realise that every decade had its fair share of junk, but the diamonds are those which are passed from generation to generation.

I like AJR. I'm comfortable putting this in the "Unpopular Opinions" thread, since whenever they put out a new song it mostly gets static on PMB whether it's in the Pop, Rock/Alt, or Hot AC boards.

Colder Weather by Zac Brown Band is a bad song. The sentiment behind a song cannot prop it up if the hook is annoying

Both are bad, but Baby >>> Yummy Like, even Baby’s lyrics are easy to remember, despite how corny and terribly written they are.

"Circles" by Post Malone isn't even that good. I love most of his songs on "beerbongs & bentleys" better than the ones off "Hollywood's Bleeding".

People that try to tear one artist down just because they like someone else better need to stop. One time I saw a Carrie vs Miranda argument and thought “why”. They are both talented women who I am sure support each other. I’ll never understand that aspect of being a fan. No need to tear down. Unless the person is genuinely a bad person.
