It feels weird getting excited over upcoming Sam Smith music since he's an A&R bore now, but "Latch" STILL knocks. It'll be interesting if this collaboration leads to something as interesting (and hopefully not a carbon copy).
ETA: It's also quoted as being the "happiest" song either artist has made.

The track is called "Omen" after Disclosure and Sam Smith have been exchanging tweets with the letters of the song.

The "happiest song either artist has made" is called "Omen?" Huh.
(ETA: well I guess you can have good omens too, but still)

I don't blame them for releasing something with a bigger name next considering the lack of interest in "Holdin' On" despite their hype, but Sam again? When they released "Latch," Sam was an unknown and the song rose on its own merit. Now they're both big names and Sam is even bigger. It's going to instantly draw comparisons so it better be one hell of a song! Even if this smashes, Disclosure risks pigeonholing themselves as a Sam-driven act. Without having heard either song, I'd day the Lorde song would be the wiser strategy if they're chasing a hit driven by establishment. Once that sets the precedent for Disclosure-sans-Sam, then release whatever!
[Ofc "Latch" isn't even their biggest hit outside of North America, but whatever]

Normally not too big on them, but that preview sounds cute.

This better snatch my soul the same way Latch did upon first listen. "Latch" was so mysterious and sooo far removed from being chart motivated when I first heard in late summer/early fall '12 that I feel like it'd be damn near impossible for two now-platinum stadium acts to recapture atmospherically. I just hope the song knocks! The preview sounds pleasant but it'll be the chorus that matters when all is said and done.

Added to the C-list on BBC Radio 1 playlist. As a consequence, I guess the radio premiere (unless AllAccess trolls me us again) will be either tomorrow or Friday on BBC Radio 1. Also, if it's taken into consideration that "Bang That", "Holding On" and "Moving Mountains" were premiered on Annie Mac's show, I assume this will follow the pattern too.

Although the time zone isn't mentioned, I assume the first play of the track will be at 8:30am. GMT during Nick Grimshaw's BBC Radio 1 show.

Taking this strictly on its own terms, it's good. The whole thing doesn't really reveal itself fully on the first listen, but the chorus more than does its job of sticking in your head.

The pre-chorus, chorus, and chorus refrain are very catchy. It's a total house party jam.
