I'm in the process of listening to their discography for the first time in many years. Tool is a band that even if you don't necessarily like, have to appreciate Maynard's talents. Some of my friends who are massive Tool fans give me s**t for not being a bigger one than I am. They're not even in my Top 50 favorite bands for example, but I completely understand why they have a massive fanbase.

A question I received regarded the two part Wings For Marie on 10,000 Days , and whether they should be submitted as separate entries or the same entry. I defaulted to the tracklist from the band which lists them as separate tracks. So if you want to submit both parts please list them separately (of course you can also only submit one or the other if you'd prefer). As an example to contrast, a song like Green Day's "Jesus of Suburbia" has five different parts, however the song is only listed as a single entry on the tracklist. I think solution that makes the most sense to use for future artists that may have a similar issue. Does this also apply to "Parabol/Parabola"? Because I've always had those two together, basically a "can't have one without the other" situation. Even the video has both. By the way, I love the discussion Tool is inspiring here. Then again, it seems as if they always inspire some sort of discussion whenever they're mentioned. Personally, I've always felt that the two most technically proficient bands in the history of recorded music are Rush and Tool, with the likes of King Crimson, Iron Maiden, and Dream Theater (just to name a few) somewhere in the vicinity. I genuinely feel that Danny Carey is one of the best drummers in the history of music, and Adam Jones and Justin Chancellor are absolutely out of this world as guitarist and bassist, respectively. Those are three of the absolute best of all time at their crafts. And though he is maligned by some, Maynard James Keenan is one of my favorite singers ever, someone who can absolutely make a song special through the power of his voice alone. I totally understand if someone doesn't want to listen to Tool all the time. As Doc said, Tool is not for everyone. But man, I can't imagine a day without Tool in my life. They are a big reason why I love music as much as I do.

Considering Parabol is the lead-in to Parabola on the album, submitting just Parabola could in a way represent submitting both "songs". Unless there is someone who intends on just submitting Parabol and not Parabola there probably won't be a problem when tallying the final ballots.

Bumping for the 24 hour warning (not late this time?!?). So far I have 13 submissions which is a little lower than usual, so if some of you need another day or two to listen I can extend it. I'll keep the deadline the same unless some of the regulars need a little more time.
Submissions are due tomorrow, March 9th, 2016, at Midnight EST

Since Tool isn't on the Spotify at all, and my old iTunes playlists with Tool songs in them all have so many hundreds of total songs (and I will never change that), and the only Tool song I ever hear on the radio anymore is "Sober", so it's easy for me to go a long time without hearing much of their music. I took it upon myself to fix some of that today. It was a good day. :).
It normally bugs me when artists are on so high a horse that they don't want their music to be heard using technologically modern methods. The only notable exceptions are Taylor Swift, whose absence from Spotify played a gigantic part in me not unsubscribing from Spotify when their program that I was paying for was having seemingly irreparable bugs and glitches awhile ago. And Tool, because I think Maynard and the boys just don't give a s***, and I think of that as part of their charm, although it does result in me hearing their music less frequently.

Also, if we're doing Deftones, can we wait to do it next month after Gore is released?

Honestly, the only thing that I truly "expected" to see with this vote was "Sober" place high, and it didn't even hit the top five. Unpredictability!
I can't say that I'm too surprised that the results are as varied as they are, though. Really cool to see "Eulogy" make the top ten, too. And "Triad" was picked by more than one person! Awesome.

I'm surprised I'm the only person that voted for Rosetta Stoned.
Also, you know you listen to too much Tool if you use the song 4 Degrees to try to convince your girlfriend to do anal. Lol, just kidding.

Ugh, I don't like how Wings For Marie is separated into two tracks on the album cause I have it downloaded as one track and it's the only version I will listen to, I can't just listen to one part or the other it has to be the WHOLE experience. If I had put down Pt. 2 10,000 Days it would've been up to 12

I'm back to report the results for our next ballot. I noticed the post above the Tool results that had a few people preferring if Deftones won that we would wait until after Gore's release, and I agree as the album is only a few weeks away. So even though Deftones won this week, our next vote will be going to the second placed group, The Smashing Pumpkins. Before I knew who would be second I was going to ask Lordef†ones what he'd prefer to do with the Deftones vote, but considering who we'll be voting for instead I don't think he'll mind for now. Also today is Billy Corgan's birthday, so it seems fitting to have his band start their vote on the board. Deftones will likely be the 19th artist that we vote on to give some time for people to listen to Gore and flesh out a fuller opinion of the songs on the project. Tame Impala register only one vote and fall off the ballot, however could return in the future. Due to two artists earning votes in the future, we get three new entries on the ballot for this week. Pearl Jam returns to the ballot after some time off, maybe with a more favorable climate this time. INXS makes their first entry outside of the classic vote a few months ago. Finally, Death Cab For Cutie join for the first time to see where their fate lies. The artists just on the edge include Tame Impala, Jimmy Eat World, Silversun Pickups, The Cure, and 311.
Here are the full standings:Deftones - 8 The Smashing Pumpkins - 5 Radiohead - 5 Nirvana - 4 Coldplay - 4 blink-182 - 4 David Bowie - 4 The White Stripes - 3 The Cars - 3 Tame Impala - 1Here's the link to the Smashing Pumpkins ballot!Voting closes Sunday, March 27th at Midnight EST. Thanks for your participation!

Accidentally sent an incomplete ballot. Apologies. Re-submitted, and I think that I got it right this time. Love the Pumpkins, so this was not an easy vote whatsoever. Also, I approve of the decision to wait until Gore comes out to hold the vote for Deftones. I've waited this long for Deftones to come up (and for their new album, for that matter). I can wait a few more votes so that Gore has the chance of being represented.

I wish I had submitted a list for the Tool round, but I just never got around to it. Figured that Schism would be #1.
Just submitted my SP ballot.

I like a good amount of Smashing Pumpkin's stuff, so this wasn't too bad. Mine heavily featured 2 albums - Siamese Dream and Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness.

I'll be one of the few not submitting 1979 or Tonight, Tonight - their heavier stuff does more for me. Interested to see how this turns out.

YES SMASHING PUMPKINS!
I agree with the decision to wait for Gore, plus this continues the streak of my favorite bands on the ballot
This is without a doubt going to be my hardest as they have such a massive collection of impressive work, Siamese Dream and Mellin Collie are two of my favorite albums of all time. I also expect to favor Oceania more than anyone.

Can I add Zwan "Honestly" or "The Next Right Moment". Ric Ocasek song with Billy Corgan on giutars, backup vocals and synths Or do we just stick to Pumpkins songs?

Annoyed that Spotify only has partial discography of Pumpkins albums, at least the rest are available on youtube.

I like the Smashing Pumpkins decent enough. They have a few gems in their discography that will I'm sure I'll rediscover as I listen to everything. I think the one thing that holds me back from saying they're one of my favorite bands is Billy Corgan's voice. I just can't get behind it nor understand most of what he's singing.
I don't think I'll include some of their bigger hits either. I seemed to think "1979" was especially overrated as never really liked "Bullet With Butterfly Wings" too much. I love "Perfect" though. I'll see how it goes.

I'd prefer if you stuck to songs under the Smashing Pumpkins label, but if you're really struggling to come up with a full list then I wouldn't mind.

"The Beginning is the End is the Beginning" just narrowly missed my list(along with great singles like "1979", "Zero", other favorites like "Bodies", "X.Y.U.", and any song from Gish.) This was the toughest list yet, taking me several days but I hold Pumpkins in very high regard and each song on the top ten is a very special gem.

This was the toughest list yet, taking me several days but I hold Pumpkins in very high regard and each song on the top ten is a very special gem. "Bodies" just barely made my top ten. "Beginning" was, probably, my #11...or close to it, anyway. "End" was pretty close, too. "1979", "Zero", "Today", and "Bullet" didn't even make the final cut. This was so difficult. I finished my list. It goes:
3 from Siamese Dream 2 from Mellon Collie 1 from Adore 2 from Machina 2 from non-albums
As I said in my other post, I definitely discovered that I'm not a huge Pumpkins fan. I definitely like their heavier songs than softer ones. Honestly, when I was in the middle of listening to "Adore," I wanted to quit from boredom and just make my list full of singles, but I kept chugging along. A few of their songs are excellent though, but for me, there's not a huge amount that I really enjoy. I also lied about "1979." It's on my list as it's one of their more likable songs, but still, I don't love it.

I was a late bloomer for the Pumpkins' sound. I'll admit; that the more melodic they got, the more into them; I got, so; I have quite a few of the post 2000s songs on my list. Those and of course; the big crossover singles, which are classics.
