don't forget to give some love to David Bowie when you're making your picks for the next artist

Did my ballot go through? Don't recall if I accidentally submitted 2 bands instead of 3.

Did my ballot go through? Don't recall if I accidentally submitted 2 bands instead of 3. Your ballot did go through, and on both the 10 artist ballot and the nomination sections you have three artists.

Great thanks! I was using multiple tabs on an iPad, and when I switched back to that tab it appeared as if it was a blank ballot never submitted.
Really wanted to sneak in more of their album tracks, but their singles are so strong.

Pulse Top 10s #17 - The Smashing Pumpkins - Results
The panel came out in full force for our Smashing Pumpkins vote, with 20 posters offering their lists to contribute to the ranking. It wasn't a huge surprise that Bullet With Butterfly Wings proved the victor, however what was surprising was the variety of songs offered by everyone (only 14/20 picked the #1 song on their list), with 55 unique songs suggested. Siamese Dream and Mellon Collie offered most of the top tracks, but most albums earned a few representatives for the full ranks. I'm most surprised how well 'Eye' performed. Getting top ten and having three people put it as their #1

Surprised at how 4 songs got 3 or more #1 votes, i would've guessed at more variety at the top. Wished the underrated machina got more representation though I only had room for 1 song; it deserved to do bettering than Oceania. Glad Today wasn't in anyone's Top Two, out of the Top 5 overall, and only fourth ranked Siamese Dream song. I don't get why radio station countdowns tend to rank this as their #1 song when they had several better songs. Oscar method: 1 Bullet with butterfly wings 3+1+4+4 2 mayonnaise 3+2+1+1 3 cherub rock 4+1+0=>mayonnaise+bullet+bullet+bullet+bullet 4 Eye 3=>mayonnaise+ bullet+bullet 4 Disarm 2+1=>bullet+bullet+0 6 silverfuck=>mayonnaise 6 perfect=>disarm 6 rocket=>cherub rock 6 1979=> bullet with butterfly wings 6 soothe=>mayonnaise

Nirvana finally earn their time in the limelight after appearing on nearly every ballot dating back to our Green Day vote. The results from this ballot will combine with the results of the next ballot to determine our 20th artist after Deftones gets their vote. The White Stripes were the unlucky group this week, receiving only one vote after hovering around the middle of the pack for the last several ballots. Their support from the past suggests they may return soon. The two new artists on the ballot are completely new entries, with Silversun Pickups and Jimmy Eat World grabbing the coveted slots. On the cusp of inclusion are Tame Impala, 311, Chevelle, The Black Keys, and Nickelback.
Here are the full standings:Nirvana - 12 Pearl Jam - 10 Coldplay - 7 Radiohead - 6 blink-182 - 6 David Bowie - 5 Death Cab For Cutie - 4 The Cars - 4 INXS - 3 The White Stripes - 1Here's the link to the Nirvana ballot!Voting closes Thursday, April 14th at Midnight EST. Thanks for your participation!

About the Pumpkins, I'm pleased Mayonaise made it that high, even though I would have placed in my top 3. Kinda disappointed 1979 didn't get #1, though.

Nice Pumpkins torn out. I thought "Disarm" would be #1, but I'm very pleased with "Bullet...". About Nirvana. The best thing about that band was the birth of Foo Fighters. I have strong negative feelings about Cobain and his exit from this world. I'm gonna have a hard time coming up with 5 songs from that band. Aside of my feelings about Kurt; I honestly never liked his vocals either.

Would've preferred Pearl Jam- I think I could only do a top 3/4 for Nirvana. Would've liked to see "1979" or "Disarm" at #1 for the Pumpkins, though.

Figured Bullet with Butterfly Wings would win for Smashing Pumpkins, which is mainly why I didn't nominate it. Glad to see Disarm in the top 3, though, as that is one of my favorite songs ever.
I've never really considered myself a big fan of Nirvana, but I managed to put together a solid list of 10 songs that I like a lot. I guess I like them more than I thought. I just don't like their singles very much (I think only two on my list actually charted).

I've sent in my vote; missed out on the Pumpkins one due to lack of enthusiasm and time…not real excited about Nirvana either but I wasn't going to sit out 2 in a row & they have a very, very strong #1 at the very least.

I for one was really anticipating this one. And it was actually easier than I thought it would be - perhaps because most of my favorites come from just two albums, Nevermind and In Utero. (Though I did include one from Bleach and one non-album cut.) By the way, I didn't include the obvious #1, but did include several of their other big hits.

i wanted to vote for their cover of Devo's Turnaround, but there wasn't enough room...All Apologies & About A Girl fell just short as well never heard that cover till just now. "Turn Around" is on flipside of my "Whip It" 45'. Used to play that all the time. That makes 6 songs I can choose.

First, didn't comment on the Pumpkins results...they were about what I expected. Pretty surprised by the lack of love for "Thirty-Three", though.
Interesting that so many people are unenthusiastic about Nirvana being up for a vote. As for me, I'm enthusiastic simply because this was my chance to lavish love on songs from Nirvana NOT from Nevermind. I mean, there's some songs from Nevermind in my top 10 (two, by my count), but the majority of my top 10 is songs from Unplugged/In Utero/Bleach. Nirvana, at least to me, is so much more than their biggest album. Unplugged, in particular, is becoming one of my favorite albums.
Album breakdown: 2 from Bleach 2 from Nevermind 2 or 3 from In Utero 3 or 4 from Unplugged

Haven't done it yet but can't imagine Nevermind will take up that much space - honestly; I find it to be one of the most overrated albums of all time

Can't say I agree with Nevermind being overrated. I do like In Utero a bit more, but in the grand scheme of things, it's still a great album and absolutely deserves the respect it gets. I will say that "Smells Like Teen Spirit" in particular is one of their most overrated songs, but I still have to give it credit for launching Nirvana's mainstream career, and to an extent the '90s grunge/alternative breakout as a whole.

Out of all the "big four" grunge albums, I find it the worst, and although it was influential and definitely altered musical history, quality-wise it just doesn't live up to its reputation personally. Agree that In Utero is a lot better.

I'm still working on my list, but most of it will be from "Nevermind." I hadn't listened to that album in probably a decade, but after almost done listening to Nirvana's discography, I like it way better than the others.
