Lol, we made this same thread at the same time rbundy1987. I deleted mine. :) Next time start a thread when you get confirmation folks, lol; and Rascal Flatts themselves saying what their next single is to a radio station is plenty of confirmation. ;)

I'm surprised they're going for another single off Rewind. I thought they would be done after "Payback" and "Riot" didn't do too well on the charts.
I heard this song for the first time today, and I like this. I hope this can reach the top 20 just like "Riot" did.

I'm surprised too but apparently they aren't anywhere close to having new music ready and Big Machine chose promoting one more song to radio rather than an extended layoff.

An extended period of time off the airwaves could hurt their next era seeing as country artists don't take that much time off between eras.

An extended period of time off the airwaves could hurt their next era seeing as country artists don't take that much time off between eras. I actually prefer the approach of taking time off between albums if the artist isn't a superstar and unfortunately, Rascal Flatts star power has been fading in recent years. That being said, there's plenty of factors for Big Machine choosing another single. If Rascal Flatts does start recording their album for the Fall, then I could certainly see a scenario where this peaks in January of 2016 (whatever the peak may be, I'm not overly optimistic) and they release the lead single for their next project after CRS or at the start of Q2 at the latest. This group is still big enough to where they can definitely get an hourly premiere for a lead single and have it reach the top 5 like "Rewind" did but that's about all the guarantees I think Rascal Flatts can get these days. I still think "Payback" was the wrong second single choice from Rewind as I think listeners and radio programmers alike found it grating and its chart run was evidence -- hind sight is 20/20 though.

I'm also surprised that they are going to release the fourth single from "Rewind". That's because since they are in Big Machine, they just released three singles from each of their albums. 'I Like The Sound of That' makes me feel early Rascal Flatts sound. Hope country radio can support this song and reach at least Top 10......

Rascal Flatts recently confirmed they won't begin recording a new album until the Fall, which means new music probably won't even be on the horizon until 2016. In this case, a new single can't hurt, since RF has zero momentum right now, and having something out there (as opposed to nothing for the rest of the year), would likely be a good option, at this point.

In this case, a new single can't hurt, since RF has zero momentum right now, and having something out there (as opposed to nothing for the rest of the year), would likely be a good option, at this point. Right but it still cost money and resources to promote singles to radio and Big Machine has other artists on their plate at radio right now, so that's usually a deterrent for not releasing another single, especially when there's little confidence that the song can reach a desirable peak (since 'Payback" and "Riot" had a whale of a time just reaching the top 20-25). Who knows though, perhaps Big Machine is confident they can get this song to perform well and this label believes Rascal Flatts is an artist worthy enough to promote another single to radio for a few months. I don't believe that releasing a fourth single will help or hurt their next lead single at all, so this is about Big Machine being okay with spending more time and money on another single. That's good news for fans and radio as more singles are always a good thing for the consumer.

I can understand Big Machine's plan to release a final single from the Rewind era. I do like a wider gap between final singles and a lead for the following album...but that's just my personal thought about that process. That said, I have always loved this song. Since the album came out, this was definitely one of my top three from the album. I am extremely saddened that Rascal Flatts' momentum is dropping quickly. I feel that "Payback" really messed up the following singles for this album. I don't know that this will catch much steam, unfortunately. However, when a lead single comes from their next CD, I hope radio can really get behind it.

If this song doesn't peak in the top 10 it will be their first album ever to not have at least 2 top 10 hits. I thought "Riot" would've been a bigger hit than it was but I guess radio just never got behind it. I'm glad they released this song as it is one of my favorites off the album. I thought "I Have Never Been To Memphis" would've been a great song for a single at some point but this should be the final single from Rewind

I really like this song so I'm certainly supportive of it going to radio, though I honestly would've rather seen them just take a little time off between eras because I'm afraid this might not do very well on radio. After two singles that didn't move the needle too much and became two of their lowest-charting singles, I fear that this will perform even more poorly. But I'll try to remain optimistic that maybe this can at least peak somewhere in that same neighborhood as "Payback" and "Riot," which wouldn't be too bad.
Can't wait for new music from them though. Hopefully they'll get something new out fairly early in 2016.

I think it's time Rascal Flatts made a much more traditional Country record.

Yes! I knew they'd go with this or "DJ Tonight." Why not? Top 20 would still be fine going into the next album. They're a veteran star act and can tour for a long time to come but having a Top 20 guarantees that no matter what, they're not in any position to lose Headliner status.

They're a veteran star act and can tour for a long time to come but having a Top 20 guarantees that no matter what, they're not in any position to lose Headliner status. That's assuming this goes Top 20, which I'm skeptical about after they had two singles have rougher climbs just to peak at #21 and #20. So it wouldn't surprise me at all to see this peak lower. And I'm not sure I understand the last part, because I'm sure they'd continue to be a headline act if they had just left the Rewind era on the Top 20 note of "Riot" and waited for their next lead single to hit radio for their next hit. Like, I don't think anyone is trying to argue Rascal Flatts is becoming totally irrelevant just because they're starting to struggle a little more beyond their lead singles, lol.

One surprise came when LeVox introduced “I Like the Sound of That” as their next single from Rewind. Fans can expect to hear on the radio within a month, he indicated. Pop star Meghan Trainor had a hand in writing the uptempo lover.Rascal Flatts’ WE Fest Performance Becomes Giant Singalong

"I Like The Sound Of That" got 1 add this week (WYCD in Detroit), so I'm assuming the official announcement is coming either this week or next week, with the add date in September.

Are these folks losing traction and/or running on borrowed time at country radio?
I know it's been 9 years since 'What Hurts The Most' edged 'If You're Going Through Hell' by under 400 spins to wind up #1 for the year at Mediabase in 2006, the closest race of the past two decades for the year's #1 single.
Then there's the record-shattering drop of more than 2,600 spins which 'Come Wake Me Up' took in 2012, an all time record.
Since then their performance on both the BB & MB chart appears to be trending downward which begs the question, would they ever consider having either of the other two members handle lead vocals on a single?
Just wonderin.....

The reason Gary LeVox sings lead vocals on all their songs is because his voice gives Rascal Flatts their unique sound and while Gary's vocals might not be for everyone, his voice is better than Jay or Joe Don's. I don't think changing lead vocals on a single will help them at radio.

I thought for sure we would see "I Like The Sound Of That" get an add date yesterday in Aircheck and/or Billboard, or through Play MPe but we didn't. Rascal Flatts announced this as their next single over three weeks ago so I'm not quite sure the reason for waiting.
I'm not optimistic this will end up out-peaking "Payback" or "Riot" anyway, but "Riot" went recurrent a while ago now.

I can't really get into the melody on this one. I'm trying to love it, but I can't. Hopefully it will grow on me. My ranking of singles from Rewind: 1. "Riot" 2. "Rewind" 3. "I Like The Sound of That" 4. "Payback"

While "Riot" was the best song on the album in my opinion. I was hoping they would release "I Have Never Been To Memphis" as a single.
