Early predictions: -I expect Jason Aldean, Luke Bryan, and Florida Georgia Line to be the top contenders for Entertainer of the Year. I'd love to see Zac Brown Band in contention. -The nominees for Female Vocalist of the Year will include Miranda Lambert, Carrie Underwood, Kacey Musgraves, Kelsea Ballerini, and either Mickey Guyton or Reba. -"Girl Crush" will take both Single and Song, as well as score Little Big Town another Group of the Year win. -Kacey Musgraves, Ashley Monroe, and Chris Stapleton will all be up for Album of the Year and I'll tear my hair out trying to figure out who I want to win.
Early notes: -This is the first year that Gary Overton will no longer be at the helm of Sony and their nominations, so we may actually, finally see the shift that so many have been waiting for in the Miranda Lambert/Blake Shelton love-fest department. With Randy Goodman now at the helm and knowing that Carrie Underwood's CMA FYE ads have been sent out and pushed, there could be a serious change in the weather. Could be an interesting year to watch. -This is obviously going to be an extra interesting show to watch because of the Miranda Lambert/Blake Shelton divorce. Truly don't know how that'll be approached in the seating arrangements. From their Twitter exchanges, it seems like they're on friendly terms, but I feel like them sitting next to each other would be just as awkward to watch for the average viewer as it would for them to be sitting apart.

Aren't Martina and Reba currently tied for the most CMA vocalist nominations? Or was that a couple years ago? This could be a year that tie is broken, now that Reba has reemerged!!

I would love to see Kelsea win New Artist of the Year this time. Between her and Maddie & Tae and Sam Hunt, it will be an interesting category to watch for.

Predicted nominees:
Entertainer of the Year: Luke Bryan Florida Georgia Line Jason Aldean Miranda Lambert Blake Shelton
Other possibilities: Tim McGraw, Kenny Chesney, Zac Brown Band, Carrie Underwood.
Male Vocalist of the Year: Blake Shelton Jason Aldean Brad Paisley Luke Bryan Dierks Bentley or Keith Urban
Other possibilities: Eric Church, Kenny Chesney, Tim McGraw.
Female Vocalist of the Year: Miranda Lambert Carrie Underwood Reba McEntire Kelsea Ballerini Kacey Musgraves
Other possibilities: Ashley Monroe, Martina McBride.
Vocal Duo of the Year: FGL win, other nominees are pointless to list
Vocal Group of the Year: Little Big Town will win, but Zac Brown Band and Lady A cannot be completely counted out.
For the Song/Single/Video/Album categories, I have to see a list because I just can't remember them all...
I predict there will be serious changes this year. Not only have things at Sony changed, but Miranda has had an incredibly quiet year. Blake has had a bigger year, but I feel a lot of his success with awards could partially be credited to Miranda. They're also divorced... so... We'll see but I don't think we'll see much in the way of Miranda or Blake wins. I'm sure they'll get their usual 24 combined nominations, but I don't think they'll win much at all. I think Carrie will win Female Vocalist (fingers crossed)... Now that we're closing in on show time, Carrie clearly has the most momentum to garner votes. She'll be launching a new album and I'm sure Sony would love to dominate the headlines with Carrie-related stuff around the time of the album release. So I think they'll be pushing for Carrie... Well, we know for a fact they are with their initial ad for Carrie that was sent out when voting began. She also, really, is the most deserving. Of the women in country music, Carrie far and away had the best year.
I think Luke will win Entertainer of the Year again, but I could see FGL sneaking in there. They had a huge year, too. I just don't think they're industry favorites... so I don't know if they'd get the votes. I think Male Vocalist will go to Blake or Jason... Honestly couldn't tell you because I feel like this category is the closest. And then for Duo and Group, FGL and LBT will win their categories, obviously.
I think we're in for a very interesting and refreshing show because I think we'll hear some different names called, at least I hope so. I'll have a better idea after nominations come out, but for now, I'm feeling very optimistic!

Always my favorite time of year! I'll post my predictions in another post, but just remember that the eligibility period for this year is July 1, 2014, through June 30, 2015. The second ballot for the CMA Awards will be sent out and open to voters from August 11th - August 20th. This round of voting is what will be the final list of nominees announced sometime in September. The final round of voting for these nominees is open from October 8th - October 27th.

My way-too-early nomination predictions:
Entertainer • Luke Bryan • Eric Church • Kenny Chesney • Garth Brooks • Blake Shelton
Male Vocalist • Luke Bryan • Keith Urban • Eric Church • Sam Hunt • Blake Shelton
Other Possibilities: • Dierks Bentley • Kenny Chesney • Chris Young • Jake Owen • Tim McGraw • Jason Aldean
(so many successful male artists...)
Female Vocalist • Kacey Musgraves • Carrie Underwood • Miranda Lambert • Reba McEntire • Kelsea Ballerini
Other Possibilities: • Shania Twain (mostly because she's touring again...but this is obviously a real long-shot) • Mickey Guyton (not likely) • Cam (too soon) • Ashley Monroe (maybe) • Martina McBride (slight chance) • Lee Ann Womack (slight chance)
Album of the Year • Pain Killer - Little Big Town • Montevallo - Sam Hunt • Pageant Material - Kacey Musgraves • Traveller - Chris Stapleton • The Way I'm Livin' - Lee Ann Womack • Jekyll + Hyde - Zac Brown Band
(I know that's six; I just couldn't narrow it down to five. I give only a slight chance to albums like Kenny's The Big Revival, Blake's Bringing Back The Sunshine, Tim's Sundown Heaven Town, FGL's Anything Goes, Reba's Love Somebody, and Jason's Old Boots, New Dirt)
Vocal Group • Lady Antebellum • Little Big Town • Rascal Flatts • A Thousand Horses • Zac Brown Band
(Slight chance to see The Band Perry, Eli Young Band, and/or Parmalee in here, likely replacing Rascal Flatts and/or A Thousand Horses)
New Artist • Sam Hunt • Chris Stapleton • Cole Swindell • Thomas Rhett • Dustin Lynch OR Kelsea Ballerini
Other Possibilities • Eric Paslay • Tyler Farr • Chase Rice • Frankie Ballard • Dan + Shay • A Thousand Horses • Maddie & Tae • Sturgill Simpson
Vocal Duo • Dan + Shay • Florida Georgia Line • Maddie & Tae • Big & Rich • Brothers Osborne OR Thompson Square
Single of the Year • "Girl Crush" - Little Big Town • "Take Your Time" - Sam Hunt • "Something In The Water" - Carrie Underwood • "Shotgun Rider" - Tim McGraw • "Homegrown" - Zac Brown Band
Song of the Year • "Girl Crush" - Little Big Town • "Something In The Water" - Carrie Underwood • "Diamond Rings & Old Barstools" - Tim McGraw f/ Catherine Dunn • "Dirt" - Florida Georgia Line • "Girl In A Country Song" - Maddie & Tae
Musical Event of the Year • "Raise 'Em Up" - Keith Urban & Eric Church • "Wild Child" - Kenny Chesney f/ Grace Potter • "Lonely Tonight" - Blake Shelton f/ Ashley Monroe • "Diamond Rings & Old Barstools" - Tim McGraw f/ Catherine Dunn • "Smokin' and Drinkin'" - Miranda Lambert f/ Little Big Town

Bit surprised you have Aldean snubbed completely there Jamie. Why's that? He got 0 nominations last year. He's obviously still incredibly popular and I wouldn't be totally surprised if he sneaks into the Entertainer or Male Vocalist categories, but those are some really competitive categories where literally a dozen artists could be nominated, so I don't think it's a sure thing. The only other major category where I could see him scoring a nomination is Single of the Year for "Burnin' It Down" since it was a huge radio hit and a huge seller. But that'll be a really tough category too, and "Burnin' It Down" isn't exactly critically-acclaimed. Meanwhile, I've been seeing a good deal of press about the attendance records that Kenny Chesney has been setting, and given the fact that he's #2 in tour revenue this year (with Garth #1) AND the fact that there's new momentum at Sony due to the new leadership there, I expect Sony to really push to get both Garth and Kenny into the Entertainer category, since neither is likely to be in the Male Vocalist category (IMO). Luke Bryan is a given for an EOTY nomination -- he's the biggest star in the genre. And then I've got Eric Church and Blake Shelton edging out others including Jason, Tim, Keith, Carrie, Miranda, ZBB, etc. Eric Church has a Platinum-selling album with a lot of critical acclaim, and concertgoers and concert reviewers constantly remark upon how much energy Eric has during his live shows, whereas they often criticize Jason for his lack of energy. Blake had another big year, he's got Warner Bros. and The Voice in his corner...I don't think he and Miranda will dominate the award shows as much anymore, but I do think enough voters will still rally behind Blake for this year at least (basically as a way to show support during a tough time in his life, but also because he had another strong year).

jhomes87Last year was Aldean's off year between albums, whereas this year, he released one of the best selling albums of the year. Personally, I don't see much of a chance he's snubbed at all.

Aren't Martina and Reba currently tied for the most CMA vocalist nominations? Or was that a couple years ago? This could be a year that tie is broken, now that Reba has reemerged!! Seventeen nominations for Reba McEntire, twelve for Martina McBride. I almost took your word for it, but I decided to look it up! According to the archives on the CMA website, Martina has received 17 female vocalist nominations from the CMAs. 1996, 1998-2012, and 2014. They also have 17 nominations listed for Reba. 1983-1995, 2004, 2007, and 2009-10. Here is a link to the database. It's kinda cool, actually! :) Anyway, I fully expect Reba to break ahead this year. If there is only one veteran slot, it better go to her. However, I suppose there is an outside chance they could both be nominated. Either way, I would not be surprised if Martina is nominated again in the future once she has new music out, so this is a record that could flip-flop between the two of them for a few years yet.

I'm well aware of this. Anyway, what I posted were MY personal predictions, not yours lol. I just think somebody has to get left out. I'd probably put Jason as my 6th pick in the Entertainer and Male Vocalist categories, but again, as I said, I wouldn't be surprised if he sneaks in and pushes one of the other guys out.

Garth Brooks will likely take a spot for Entertainer of the Year, probably in place of Miranda or Blake. Also, I doubt it but Shania Twain could sneak in there since she's currently on her last tour. However, I don't think there's enough buzz surrounding Shania to garner a nomination. But you can't completely forget about her! Still, the award is Luke's to lose, and I don't see anyone else winning this, really.

I definitely don't think Carrie deserves to be nominated for Entertainer of the Year this year. I mean, I wouldn't be upset, but I definitely think there are many more deserving acts. However, with the tides changing in country music and seeing as though Sony is campaigning for Carrie in Entertainer, Female, Single, Song, and Video, I wouldn't be completely shocked. There are other deserving nominees, but Carrie has undoubtedly been one of the most visible stars in country music this past year. It would be kind of funny, actually, if she received her first nomination for Entertainer of the Year this year. I mean, she was very active from September to December, but then disappeared until June. She did have a single out on radio, however, so no one can say she was completely gone...

My way-too-early nomination predictions: Album of the Year• Pain Killer - Little Big Town • Montevallo - Sam Hunt • Pageant Material - Kacey Musgraves • Traveller - Chris Stapleton • The Way I'm Livin' - Lee Ann Womack • Jekyll + Hyde - Zac Brown Band (I know that's six; I just couldn't narrow it down to five. I give only a slight chance to albums like Kenny's The Big Revival, Blake's Bringing Back The Sunshine, Tim's Sundown Heaven Town, FGL's Anything Goes, Reba's Love Somebody, and Jason's Old Boots, New Dirt) I like and agree with just about all your picks. This category though, while I would absolutely love it if you were right, it reads more like the Grammys rather than the CMAs. I'd have Blake in there and 1 or 2 of your other "slight chances" too.

jhomes87Last year was Aldean's off year between albums, whereas this year, he released one of the best selling albums of the year. Personally, I don't see much of a chance he's snubbed at all. I'm well aware of this. Anyway, what I posted were MY personal predictions, not yours lol. Yes, that is true. I was just debating my side. Sorry if it came across like I was arguing, because that was not my intention. Anyways.... I'm also interested to see the vocal group race.. Obviously it's LBT vs ZBB, but it's very neck and neck there IMO. I'm leaning ZBB, but would not be shocked if it was the other. Should be fun.

ZBB ain't winning Vocal Group. "Girl Crush" alone will take LBT to victory in that category, as well as either Single, Song, or both.

I dunno, I still think it's pretty close.. Maybe it won't be, but personally I think that'll be an interesting one.

I wouldn't be too sure Zac Brown Band had an album that has sold more and two very well received songs in Homegrown and Loving You Easy. Little Big Town has Girl Crush and to a point Day Drinking which reception was rather mixed but Pain Killer didn't sell as well as Jekyll + Hyde I think it's a legit fight here.
