C'mon raylatch98, it just seems bitter, honestly to keep more or less complaining about Carrie losing. I predicted her to win, Cause I thought she would, but It's not a big surprise that Miranda took it instead. -- As for Chris Stapleton's success tonight, he has the whole of the artist community behind him, not unlike Little Big Town did when they finally broke out. I know just the Carrie fan coming out of me I mean I regret it but tomorrow will be better,

So can anyone tell me what Reba sang? "Why Haven't I Heard From You", followed by "Play Something Country", with Brooks & Dunn.

I stood outside so I didn't have to hear Sam's performance. Everything else was great!

Do you think Justin Timberlake will officially release "Drink You Away" as a single now after that performance?

So can anyone tell me what Reba sang? Only my favorite song of hers, ever, aside from "Fancy" and "Is There Life Out There"... Reba is the reason I know the phone was invented in 1876, she's responsible for two bonus points I scored on an exam in college. The question was "when was the telephone invented, and who invented it?". I remember being stumped but I was in a Reba funk at the time and it hit me like a ton of bricks; the opening line: "Well back in 1876 an old boy name Bell, invented a contraption that we know so well"... Thanks, Reba, for helping me through college!

It's "Pure BS" that Miranda won and Carrie lost. Carrie had 2 top hits and Miranda's singles have all fizzled in comparison. I don't know what Miranda has on the CMA voters but it must be "Something Bad!" If single success was the only way to pick a winner, than Chris Stapleton wouldn't have won any awards tonight. You can't have it both ways.

Some quick thoughts before I go nighty-night: -Blake Shelton is a huge d-bag, and I've lost any respect I had for him. -FGL looked scared following after Chris Stapleton and Justin (and they damn well should have been!) - LOVE Eric Church's new song (so when is the album going to be released physically and/or on Google Play??!?!?!!) - Miranda did a fine job being strong tonight. Good for her! - Aldean, Rhett and Fall Out Boy, Sam Hunt - -CHRIS f**king STAPLETON!!!! And Justin too! - Chris Stapleton for President 2016 -Dierks Bentley and Lindsey Stirling on "Riser"! - Reba and Brooks and Dunn!!! - Real country music was the winner tonight. Best CMA'S in a long time

Wait a minute can someone explain why Blake is a d-bag I am confused. He divorced his wife of 4-5(?) years to apparently date his co-worker on The Voice, and I mean he acts like a d-bag a lot of the time even before that, but I think this is a new low.

They were touchy-feely at Adam Levine's Halloween party, and I read that Gwen flew to Nashville with Blake... but obviously it's mere speculation. Still, I do think it was confirmed that they are dating. Poor Miranda...

Okay yeah, yeah, I mean, it's obvious the signs are there, and while I think he is acting like a D-Bag, it would have been on a whole other level if he would have actually said it/confirmed it tonight of all nights.

It's been months since their divorce. and we don't even know if Miranda is starting to date or not. I'm not his fan but Just because he has moved on doesn't mean he's a d-bag.

Happy for Stapleton. Unsurprisingly, women still get the shaft. Miranda wins/Kacey loses album/Kelsea doesn't even get to sing a whole song, **** these people.

I'm just so happy Eric surprised us all with a brand new album and radio single. I really like now he just dropped it out of nowhere. I guess Beyoncé started it, and then King George did the same. Wonder if we'll start to see more artists drop albums out of the clear blue now. Other artists did it before Beyonce so she didn't start it, but she was the most high profile one for sure.

Didn't Carrie just release her album?! She hasn't even gotten thru her second single yet. She had her greatest hits released in the eligibility year, which includes the hits "Something in the Water" and "Little Toy Guns." Miranda didn't have a single top 10 hit in the eligibility period.

Yay, thoughts! Performances of the night, ranked: 1) Chris Stapleton & Justin Timberlake 2) Carrie Underwood 3) Kacey Musgraves 4) Dierks Bentley & Lindsey Sterling 5) Little Big Town Disappointments of the night, in no particular order: 1) No love for Musgraves. Pageant Material is brilliant and this era has been sharp and phenomenal for her as an artist. Having said that, she lost to two extremely worthy winners in two of her categories. The third... 2) ...Miranda Lambert's sixth win as Female Vocalist. We all knew it would happen, myself included, so I'm not mad or upset or even bothered by it. If anything, I'm humored. The CMAs recognize that her wins have gone into overkill mode -- there really is no way they don't realize this already. With them continuing to push her more trophies in this category kind of just makes a mockery of themselves more than anything. If there's anything to be bothered by with these last six years of this category, it's that it's become less of a service to Lambert and more of a disservice to those few women making waves as big as they possibly can in this genre's male-driven landscape. 3) The Thomas Rhett/Fall Out Boy collaboration. Not that I was expecting anything groundbreaking (that came from Stapleton/Timberlake), but it was legitimately boring. Also, Rhett looked totally out of his element during both "Crash and Burn" and "Uma Thurman". It seemed like none of them wanted to be there. 4) Yippee, Stapleton swept. Truly, truly thrilled about that! But, I couldn't agree more with toomuchboy; that doesn't pardon the letdown from this year RE: females. Don't hype up Ballerini and Maddie & Tae as performers to only give 'em 45 seconds each on the B-stage with no band. The whole FVOTY service/disservice thing above also holds true for this point. Highlights: 1) Stapleton. That is all. 2) "Girl Crush"'s very deserved sweep. We'll be seeing it again at the ACMs. 3) Underwood & Paisley's monologue was, as usual, great. I feel like William Shatner went way off-script because CU looked way too confused and amused by the whole scene for it to have been rehearsed. 4) Pentatonix singing "El Vira". 5) The LGBTCMAs! Musgraves' rainbows, the Caitlyn Jenner/babe-"bae" joke, Pentatonix's presenting & mini-performance, Megan Rapinoe being asked to present, and the secretly-promoting-the-lesbian-agenda "Girl Crush" winning everything, even though it isn't about the gay agenda at all! Get it, queens! Other noteworthy things: 1) Did anyone else notice how plastered and embarrassing Cole Swindell was when presenting Vocal Duo with Megan Rapinoe and Heather O'Reilly? He nearly walked into the set wall and kept poking extremely closely at O'Reilly. Uncomfortable.2) I'm in general agreement that Blake Shelton's become increasingly more tactless in his way of handling things post-divorce, especially with his recent taunting of Paisley & Underwood to fire shots at him during the monologue about the divorce. Why was he so hellbent on getting them to go after him & Lambert? It was very obvious that CU wasn't exceptionally thrilled with the idea of doing it (as well as the execution of the joke) considering just a few weeks ago, she said she wouldn't feel right making a mockery of the Nashville divorces from this summer. That, and why would he want to publicize his divorce in such a manner, and go about campaigning for such jabs in the monologue while the other person affected by this divorce, ML, never made a comment on it? I get that he thinks it'd be funny, but he's not the only party involved in the divorce. I don't know if the two discussed it with each other, Underwood, Paisley, or David Wild and Robert Deaton (the other executives and writers that work with Paisley & Underwood on the CMAs each year) prior to Shelton begging for the attention, but it just didn't seem extremely classy to me that he was out and about taunting the cohosts and we never received any word from Lambert on wanting that, too. 3) They put FGL after Timberlake/Stapleton, lol. Overall, a really, really great show this year.

Highlights -Carrie and Brad were hilarious. Some unexpected things for sure (Brad pantsless for instance). -The way Carrie said man bun. -Reba taking everyone to school with her performance, it was the Performance of the night. -Chris Stapleton's dominance, also him and Justin were fantastic. -Blake walks away with nothing.
Lowlights -Carrie not getting her rightly deserved award (she did deserve FVOTY, but at least I didn't expect it). -Jason Aldean, awful performance, Zac Brown also terrible. -My realization that FGL's new song isn't horrible. -No Chris Young performance. -Thomas Rhett/Fall Out Boy cluster you know what.
Overall, the show wasn't that bad, for the most part winners were good and deserved, and the performances were a majority pretty good.

I am one to overthink and have conspiracy theory written all over me but here it goes. Am I the only one that thinks they may have placed the Stapleton/Timberlake performance before FGL as a way to minimize the work of FGL? What I mean by that is with bro-country losing steam and running down is this a way for the label to discredit FGL's bro sound? I understand the sales but the time is numbered if they don't adjust the sound. The shelf life of superstardom for the majority of the artists out there is a short window (and FGL is approaching that). People get sick of the same sound pretty quick.
Probably all coincidence but this thought did cross my mind last night.

I don't give a crap if or who Blake Shelton is dating, but for him to publicly announce/confirm it 20 minutes before the CMA Awards not only screams publicity stunt, it also feels like his way of trying to hurt/embarrass Miranda, which just isn't cool. Whatever happened between them is nobody's business, but him trying to publicly hurt his ex on a night like this is beyond immature. Miranda took the high road, despite looking pretty down the few times we saw her throughout the night, and I respect her for that.
On a happier note, YAY CHRIS STAPLETON. I'd pegged him to win Album of the Year, thought he had a good shot at New Artist, but never in a million years thought he'd walk away with Male Vocalist. What an incredible night not only for him, but for country music. It wasn't a perfect night in terms of winners or performances, but it was pretty damn good and one of the best CMA shows I've seen in years. Chris's sweep seems like a pretty strong statement to the gatekeepers of country music, and that gives me more hope for the future of the genre than I've had in a long time. I'm definitely still cautious, though, because Kacey's done pretty well with award shows too and radio still ignores her. Then again, she is a woman. Chris doesn't have that disadvantage.
I'm so happy for all the exposure this has gotten Chris, with his album going straight to #1 all-genre on iTunes (hopping over Adele, people, Adele!), "Tennessee Whiskey" jumping to #2 all-genre, etc. I certainly saw a lot of "who is Chris Stapleton?" comments, which wasn't surprising, but clearly a lot of people who hadn't heard of him liked what they heard and decided to check out his music. The people on social media who are complaining that he didn't deserve to win because they've never heard of him make me facepalm, though. Sometimes it's about quality, not popularity, folks.
Chris & Justin Timberlake's performance was far and away the highlight of the night - one of the best in years, actually - but overall it wasn't a bad show. Carrie sounded a bit off on "Smoke Break" but that felt more like a sound issue than anything, and her and Brad did a great job once again as hosts. I felt like they handled the opening monologue as appropriately as possible - it was definitely one of their weaker monologues, but there wasn't really much to work with this year without being a jerk and hurting someone's feelings, which we all know they'd never want to do. I do agree with those who are calling out the CMAs on their continued female problem, however. Relegating Kelsea and Maddie & Tae to a 45-second slot on the small stage isn't really the girl power we had in mind when the CMAs made a big hoopla out of announcing all the female performers. I suppose it's better than not letting them perform at all, but there's still improvements to be made.
I would have liked to have seen Eric win Entertainer, but by that point in the show I was on such a high from Chris's wins that it didn't bother me as much. Same with Carrie's loss in Female Vocalist - I knew the folks predicting a win for her were living in dreamland. I love Miranda, but it's clear by now that it doesn't matter what material she releases, she's going to continue to win this award until some other new female breaks into the superstar category.
I'm so thrilled with Chris/JT's performance that I'm having a hard time remembering some of the other ones, but nothing stood out to me as overly terrible aside from Zac Brown Band and Thomas Rhett/Fall Out Boy. Even Florida Georgia Line didn't totally suck (though I still can't stand them and want them to go away). Did anyone else notice the looks on The Band Perry's face when they were announcing Group? They sure looked thrilled to be there. Heh.
Anyway, I'm going to go re-watch the Chris/JT performance again for the tenth time. ;)

Chris Stapleton has literally taken over iTunes. This is unreal!!!
Singles Chart (All Genre):
#2: "Tenesse Whiskey" - Chris Stapleton #3: "Drink You Away" - Justin Timberlake #5: "Girl Crush" - Little Big Town #8: "Traveller" - Chris Stapleton #9: "Die A Happy Man" - Thomas Rhett (not sure if he benefitted from the CMAs) #14: "Strip It Down" - Luke Bryan #15: "Take Your Time" - Sam Hunt #16: "Mr. Misunderstood" - Eric Church #20: "Smoke Break" - Carrie Underwood
Could go on, but it seems those are the major ones. However, Chris Stapleton has songs all over the top 200! Also, the top three all-genre albums are as follows: "Traveller" - Chris Stapleton, "Mr. Misunderstood" - Eric Church, and "Storyteller" - Carrie Underwood.

As most here have stated, it was a great show. I was jumping up and down at the Stapleton sweeps. Was only expecting Album MAYBE. Pretty crazy he took New Artist from Sam Hunt. But color me happy. It was definately the more entertaining CMA show I can remember in recent memory. Still a couple eye rolls (Fall Out Boy, seriously?). My brief thoughts are below
- I ,like everyone else, would LOVE for this to be the paradigm shift, pivotal point for Country Music. But I dont think it will happen. What I do wish is that other artists can now say to themselves "dang, Now I can get deeper and put out better songs". I hope the Stapleton love shows artists they can stretch boundaries and not stay within radio friendly zone. - Aldean's performance was extremely boring, as was Luke Bryan's. And was the point to have FGL look disheveled? BK looked like sh*t LOL. Their performance was OK, better than the usual macho-ness pyrotechnics everywhere, I'll give them that. - The disdain on the faces of Band Perry members was crazy. I think someone else here mentioned that. I believe they are now back in studio totally changing sound of their album LOL (oh well, one can hope). - Miranda Lambert looked like she could have been anywhere else in the world last night. Maybe it was the Gwen news, but still. She looked like she could care less. And as a side note, whoever is choosing her singles is absolutely butchering this era, But i think thats been mentioned on this board before. I am getting a little tired of punk-rock Miranda. - I too believe FVOTY should have gone to anyone else but Miranda, and Carrie probably should have gotten that. - Would really liked to have seen Like A Cowboy pull off the upset in Song of the Year. But this was obviously Girl Crush's year. - If Riser continues to climb and becomes a Top 10 hit, I think it could take Song of Year next year, or maybe at the ACM's in April. I really wish Dierks would get some awards love for once - As I've lamented on here before, I am so glad the CMA's gave vocalist to the actual best Vocalist in Male category. This is usually just a popularity contest, or EOTY 2.0. The best vocalists in the genre include Stapleton, David Nail, Randy Houser, Joe Nichols, Vince Gill and Ronnie Dunn. Maybe a few others. - I told my wife last night that Brothers Osborne will take Duo next year, I predict their album will be huge and will catapult them. With the awards swinging the way they were, I actually thought Maddie & Tae might have won last night. But oh well
