So the radio edit censors the "god" from "god damn" but not "bitch"? Man, things are weird. As long as the lyric "Bugs are crawlin' all over me" is left intact, that's all that's needed.

Heard this on my local HAC station last night, and I love it. I can see this doing huge things - probably on CHR, too, considering this has great sales at the moment. They played an edit that has "bitch" pitch-shifted down so it's blurred. The Rolling Stones, Katy Perry, Guns N' Roses, Tom Petty, Ellie Goulding, AC/DC, and Metallica have all managed to pull Alt hits. It's such a broad genre, I don't think there's too much in the way of rock that can't chart on Alt with the right promotion. Don't forget to note that Cee Lo Green has had 3 Alt hits and OutKast have had a top 20. I think OneRepublic's "Good Life" went top 50, too, which further proves it's one of the broadest formats.

I hate censorship of any kind. In books, Movies and especially in Music. A song should be played in its entirety no matter what it says. That's why I could never get into rap. It's all censored to sugarcoat the pop tart charts.

Exactly what he said. I believe "god damn" is also censored in "This Ain't a Scene, It's an Arms Race", "Miss Jackson", "I Write Sins Not Tragedies", etc. etc. Although I think this started only around the mid-2000s ("I Write Sins" was not censored immediately after its release), considering religion is a much more sensitive subject in today's society than in the past.

I'm catholic and I don't get offended that easy. Extremely Religious people might, but then again do Extremely religious people listen to radio that often? besides why censor radio and not movies. you here "God Damn" all the time. Is it cuz Radio listening is free. Besides doesn't censoring music make it even more popular in the end?

Define "stores." If you're talking about big box retailers, those chains have long been phasing out their CD stock. If you're talking about indie record stores, I would think you could find it there. I picked it up at an Indie Record Store in Chicago.

I had the line "Son of a bitch, Gimmi a Drink" on my mind all day. Even used it on a couple of people that said stupid things today.

Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats Top Adult Alternative Songs With 'S.O.B.'
By Kevin Rutherford | October 14, 2015 3:10 PM EDT
The folk rocker's soulful turn with his band grants him his first No. 1 on a Billboard songs chart.
Somebody give him a drink: Nathaniel Rateliff is No. 1.
Rateliff and his band the Night Sweats rise 2-1 on Billboard's Adult Alternative Songs airplay chart (dated Oct. 24) with their debut entry, the gospel-tinged and handclap-infused "S.O.B."
The act, spurred by the formerly solo Rateliff's segue from straight-ahead folk to more soulful rock, is from the band's eponymous debut LP, which opened atop the Sept. 12 Folk Albums chart and has spent two weeks at No. 1 to date.
The fiery, not entirely family-friendly single (with Rateliff shouting "son of a bitch!" multiple times in the chorus) marks the act's first No. 1 on Adult Alternative Songs (or any Billboard songs chart), boosting by 7 percent in plays at the format in the tracking week, according to Nielsen Music. It also gains by 9 percent in digital sales, to 14,000, and 16 percent in U.S. streams, to 761,000.
Rateliff and the Night Sweats have performed the song on multiple late-night shows, including The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and Conan.

There just isn't a lot of current music that I feel like I'm able to comment on lately, but I did hear this for the first time yesterday, knew right away that this was it, and I think it's awesome that something that sounds like this is doing so well. This has a similar type of Alt-Motown vibe that I loved from Fitz and the Tantrums' first record before they turned into straight indie pop Johnny-come-lately's. Except they went all in with it.

This unburned on me. I'm starting to like it as much as I did when I first discovered it.

The best word I can think to describe this song is organic. It has a completely organic sound, making it seem really original and unprocessed.

I hope 21p falls and Mess Around slows down so this can go #1 on Alt. I think Mess Around will block this from #1 though, but I hope not.

I'm still a little upset this hit top 5. Not because it's a bad song or anything, but because my 2015 Alternative Sporcle quiz is going to have to accept like six forms of the artist's name on this one.

Mine is song titles, so it's a bit easier. www.sporcle.com/games/DarylPathlight/every-song-alternative-2015I created quizzes for AAA and Active too.

I am very disappointed this didn't start a revolution in bug-themed music. Perhaps Adam Ant could get a hit again, and some faceless Active band could score a hit with their hot RATM remake "Bugs on Parade".

Adam Ant had a few songs off ; Adam Ant Is the Blueblack Hussar in Marrying the Gunner's Daughter, that shoulda gotten Radio exposure. "Cool Zombie" and "Bullshit" , but "Cool Zombie" especially cuz, it had a real cool "Red Neck" vibe to it. Lyrics and everything.

I didn't like this song the first time I heard it, but the more and more I hear it...the more and more I dislike it. I'll give it different, sure, but I still think it sucks. I really don't want to see this go #1 on Alt. But, then again, I don't really like anything in the Alt top 15 right now except for Nightlight, DCFC (which is done), Foals, and Coldplay (which actually stands a chance).

Top 20 on Active: 23 19 NATHANIEL RATELIFF/NIGHTSWEATS S.O.B 491 370 121 1.568 I'm sorry, but I gotta say it. WTF? I know you guys like the song and are happy it's on Active, but WTF? I mean this would be alright on the heritage chart, but side by side with Pop Evil and Shinedown; it doesn't belong.
