Billboard Chart Alert• While James Otto is hardly a newcomer to Nashville, his hit single "Just Got Started Lovin' You" has introduced him to the masses during its six months on Hot Country Songs, where it pushes 4-3 this week. With 58,000 copies sold, the soulful track fuels the No. 3 bow of "Sunset Man" on the Billboard 200. Otto's rookie set, "Days of Our Lives," spent one week (No. 61) on Top Country Albums in March 2004. With George Strait's "Troubadour" falling 1-2 (59,000, down 65%), the chart marks the first time since November that two country albums reside in the top three positions. On the Billboard 200 dated Nov. 24, the Eagles' "Long Road Out of Eden" ranked No. 2, followed by Garth Brooks' "The Ultimate Hits" at No. 3.

Brooks & Dunn obviously didn't want to suffer the indignity of getting out-debuted by a Blowfish, and decided to pull back on the airplay just enough so that they can be assured of getting the Hot Shot Debut next week.....

Billboard Chart Alert: • New country group Lady Antebellum charges in at No. 4 on the Billboard 200 with its self-titled debut, shifting 43,000. The trio, which consists of Hillary Scott, Charles Kelley and Dave Haywood, also starts at No. 1 on Top Country Albums ... Scott's mother, Linda Davis, charted two albums on the Billboard 200 in the '90s, reaching No. 124 with "Shoot for the Moon." However, she may be best known for her duet with Reba McEntire, "Does He Love You," which hit No. 1 on the Hot Country Songs chart in 1993. The tune won Davis a Grammy Award for best country vocal collaboration. Kelley also comes from a musical family, as his brother, singer/songwriter Josh Kelley, has reached numerous charts. His most recent album, "Special Company," hit No. 7 on the Top Heatseekers tally last month. • Getting your first No. 1 single is a big deal. But what about your 43rd? Does it start to get old after a while? We'll have to ask George Strait, who celebrates his 43rd No. 1 on the Hot Country Songs chart this week as "I Saw God Today" climbs into the top spot ... "God" is no stranger to No. 1 on the Hot Country Songs tally -- the last No. 1 single to include the word in its title was Keith Urban's "But for the Grace of God" in 2001. • Carrie Underwood claims her seventh top 10 hit on Hot Country Songs, as "Last Name" rises from No. 12 to No. 10 in its sixth week on the list. It's the follow-up to "All-American Girl," which spent two weeks atop the tally in March. Thus far, the "American Idol" winner has racked up seven top 10 singles -- five of which went all the way to No. 1.

There's room for all three if Ashton Shepard & Chris Cagle both go recurrent (and Garth/Huey falls out).

From Hit Predictor and Highlights it appears Cagle and Shepherd did go recurrent, and we're told that:
32. Lawrence 33. 34. Bryan 35. Newfield 36. 37. Brooks 38. 39. Messina 40. 41. Shawanda
Wayne and Sugarland fit into #33 and #36, in some order. Leann Rimes should have had the audience to get #38, and Emily West should have slotted in at #40, since there was a good large lead she had on the next group (Johnson, Atkins, Wicks, Walker, etc.).

That Rodney Atkins song isn't going anywhere until radio gives up on 'Cleaning This Gun', which is still in power rotation (40+ spins per week) at 14 or 15 Mediabase reporters.

Billboard Chart Alert: • Country singer Phil Vassar notches his highest-charting studio set on the Billboard 200 as "Prayer of a Common Man" bows at No. 10 with 27,000. While his 2006 "Greatest Hits Volume 1" package also hit No. 10 (65,000), his previous high-water mark with a studio effort was "American Child" at No. 44 in 2002 • Kenny Chesney hops 11-10 on the Hot Country Songs chart with "Better As a Memory." It snaps a tie with Tim McGraw for most top 10 singles on the Country list since 2000. Chesney bumps his total to 24 to pass McGraw's output in the 2000s. "Memory" is Chesney's fourth top 10 from his current set, "Just Who I Am: Poets and Pirates," and his 21st consecutive top 10 overall (excluding holiday fare and non-promoted album cuts), the format's longest active top 10 streak. The last artists to string together more top 10s were Alan Jackson with 27 between 1990 and 1998, and Alabama with 42 between 1980 and 1993, including an incredible 32 No. 1s in that span. Chesney last fell short of the top 10 when "The Tin Man" peaked at No. 19 in October 2001.

I think I remember first seeing his song show up on the nether regions of the Mediabase chart back in last July or August (usually around #60 to #80, in that 0.2 to 0.4 mill audience range), before dropping off over the winter. Better late than never, I suppose.

Billboard Chart Alert• Almost six years after his first appearance on the Hot Country Songs chart, James Otto hits No. 1 for the first time, as the soulful "Just Got Started Lovin' You" ascends 2-1. Otto drew his first chart ink when "The Ball" debuted in June 2002, but didn't grab his first No. 1 until this week. That makes his almost six-year wait for No. 1 the chart's longest since Jack Ingram hit the top with "Wherever You Are" in May 2006 after first charting in July 1997.

Billboard Chart Alert: • On Hot Country Songs, newly crowned Academy of Country Music male vocalist of the year Brad Paisley notches the fourth No. 1 from his "5th Gear" album as "I'm Still a Guy" climbs into the top slot. The set is just the third studio effort released since 2000 to host that many No. 1s, following Tim McGraw's "Set This Circus Down" (in 2001-02) and Rodney Atkins' "If You're Going Through Hell" (in 2006-08).

Billboard Chart Alert"Dancing With the Stars" dancer-turned-country singer Julianne Hough arrives in third with her self-titled set (67,000) ... on Top Country Albums, Hough plants the flag at No. 1 ... The latter's album is led by the hit single "That Song in My Head," which rises 32-29 on the Hot Country Songs chart this week. ...Other acts featured on the show (Idol finale) that gain on the Billboard 200 this week include Carrie Underwood (24-16, up 58%)... "Idol" wasn't the only TV show last week to cause spikes on the chart this week, as the Academy of Country Music Awards, broadcast Sunday, May 18, also stirs some chart action. Some of the winners that draw applause on the chart include the aforementioned Underwood (who took home the female vocalist trophy), new female vocalist Taylor Swift (11-12, but up 10%), two-time winner Sugarland (67-25, up 72%), entertainer of the year Kenny Chesney (47-30, up 33%) and surprise album of the year winner Miranda Lambert (94-49, up 52%). • Sugarland achieves the second-highest debut on Hot Country Songs this year as the duo's single "All I Want to Do" enters at No. 27. Only George Strait's "I Saw God Today," came in higher, at No. 18 ... Sugarland's bow is also the best arrival for a duo or group since Rascal Flatts' "Take Me There" started at No. 24 in July 2007. "All I Want to Do" previews the duo's third album, "Love on the Inside," due July 22.
