A new batch and I might go on a love fest on "Road Less Traveled" sorry.
Anyways
Pain Killer 3/10- Something about this song annoyed me so much and I think it eas that dang drink it awayayay or however you type it. Otherwise the song is just bland, like the large part I thought Pain Killer as an album was Dirty Laundry 9/10- Other than the fact that Carrie Underwood has covered this subject multiple times. I love this so much and especially the out to dry and to the line part Road Less Traveled 100000000000000/10- Like I love this song it is my go to my jam. Everyday before school I jam to this song. When I do schoolwork I have this song on repeat. I follow this song chart run so closely that I go by every day update and instantly panic when things aren't looking promising. The music video is amazing and so adorable and I love the end scene with all the little kids. Lauren Alaina has such a powerful voice and is such a force behind the microphone that I hope she sticks after this diamond peaks! I just love this song so much 😀😇!
Sorry for the Road Less Traveled love fest, but I just can't give enough great things for that song!
I am definitely looking forward to tomorrow's update!

Just got a chance to read all your posts and comment, but sadly I gotta keep this short cause I got studying to do for finals haha First of all, kudos for keeping up on this My thread once again proves that I shouldn't make any promises lol, and I shouldn't write a lot when you have a ton of studying to do during one of your hardest years... Awesome to see Better Man, Die A Happy Man, You Should Be Here, Blue Ain't Your Color, I'm Comin' Over , I Love This Life (definately agree that the verses are meh but that chorus is GOLD! Sadly, it finished at #303 on my countdown... but at least it's #149 on top 150 songs from June '15 to May '16!), and Road Less Travelled (I just heard this last week on the YE madness and man is it good! Look for it to smash my charts soon )! Also excited to see where Dibs and Peter Pan ended up! Hopefully they won't show up soon lmao, and I hope Peter Pan could take that #1! (or more realistically, make top 10/5 lmao) I haven't heard most of the other songs I didn't mention, but given that I like/love most songs here I have heard before, I should really go listen to some of these others! :) So excited for the rest of the countdown! (though I probably won't be commenting in a while because my first two finals are tomorrow (12/12) and Wednesday, and I have 4 other finals the week after that...)

95. "Smoke Break" - Carrie Underwood Peak: 1 (2 weeks) Total Points: 399 Certification: Gold
Carrie becomes the 2nd artist after Keith Urban to have 2 consecutive songs on the countdown! "Smoke Break" was an excellent debut single for her current era. It was an excellent return to a countrier sound after people were criticizing her increasingly pop-driven sound lately. And yet it still sounds fresh and relevant, and furthers her sound as an artist without sacrificing the direction she had been previously going. It was the first multi-week #1 on my chart, and I am still not hired of it to this day despite the slight overplay through the past year. This woman continues to do nothing but impress me. I was also super fascinated by how similar Carrie sounded to Miranda Lambert when this song first came out. Funny story, the other day "Dirty Laundry" came on the radio, and my dad, hearing it for the first time, said, "This is either Carrie Underwood or Miranda Lambert, isn't it?" So I guess that same thing could be said about "Dirty Laundry"! Which is odd, because Carrie normally sounds nothing like Miranda... I guess something about her current direction is taking her towards a similar sound as Miranda.

94. "Mind Reader" - Dustin Lynch Peak: 17 Total Points: 401 Certification: Gold
Dustin Lynch manages to make his first (and only) appearance on the countdown at #94. I have never been a Dustin Lynch fan by any means. I think his music is the epitome of bland and unnecessary. He is another artist who I think could disappear and it totally wouldn't even matter. That being said, this song totally won me over! The melody is pretty generic, but what immediately jumped out to me when hearing this song was the ever-present steel guitar. This song lays it on thick, and never backs off! My radio is pretty much always staticky in my town, and when this song came on, that steel guitar always cut through the static better than anything else. It was such a welcome sound, and honestly the song grew on me rather quickly from that point because it is pretty catchy. Without the production and instrumentation, I may not have liked it this much, but as it stands I was very comfortable holding onto this song until it made the top 20.
You play it off a little shy, But baby you're a heart stealer.

93. "Nothin' Like You" - Dan + Shay Peak: 2 Total Points: 411 Certification: Gold
This song is pretty good, although it was totally killed by overplay for me, similar to Chase Bryant's "Little Bit Of You". Although this song is vastly superior to that one! Dan+Shay are overall pretty appealing to me. I enjoy their Rascal Flatts-like sound, and so far all their big hits have been pretty good. "19 You + Me" is by far their best single to date, in my opinion, and didn't have to grow on me at all, but this one was a little bit of a grower. There are a couple moments in this song where the lead singer does some pretty sweet runs that sound awesome to me. Overall the melody is pretty catchy, and the vocals are great, so this song won me over the more I heard it. I am glad it ended up being such a big hit, but I just didn't quite like it well enough to send it to #1 on my chart. This song probably would have been much higher, except it is another one that got cut off by the start of my chart.
You got all of my attention, And you ain't even trying. Yeah, you're my kind of different, And I never seen nothin', Nothin' like you.

92. "Top Of The World" - Tim McGraw Peak: 14 Total Points: 411 Certification: Gold
That's right, Tim McGraw's most hated single in the last couple years makes my top 100! I can totally sympathize with everyone who dislikes this song, and I will admit it took me a little bit to get used to. But people always talk about it like this song is "Truck Yeah" or "Lookin' For That Girl" levels of bad, and I just think that is overkill. This song is WAY better than either of those! I actually like a few things about this song now that I have heard it more. I think the melody of the chorus is very strong. I love how the chorus has a high section, followed by like a lower breakdown. The melody of that lower breakdown is pretty difficult too! (You wouldn't think it would be, but just try singing it... You've gotta practice a few times!) As the first Tim McGraw song on the countdown (other than the FGL feature earlier), I obviously have liked his other singles much better this era. But I never quite understood the level of hate this song received.
Yeah, any way you kiss me flips me And gets me the right kind of tipsy, girl. We could be somewhere, or nowhere, And still be sitting on top of the world.

91. "Feelin' Pretty Good Right Now" - Terri Clark Peak: 15 (So far...) Total Points: 417 Certification: GoldUgh, this song is like a perfect example of why I have always been such a big fan of Terri Clark. She may not have the biggest range, but what she does have is very strong, and she always knows how to pick the strong melodies. This song is a total earworm that just makes me want to sing along every time. And it's a freaking mid-tempo! How many slower songs are known for their singsongy catchiness? Terri is an absolute master at this type of stuff though. This song is right in her wheelhouse. I also love how she has managed to keep her famous neo-traditional, honkytonk sound, and yet still sounds fresh and modern. I very much enjoy this song, and we can look for it to finish much higher on the 2017 year-end countdown <3Pour me a little bit more of you, Now that's what I'm talkin' about.

Love all the songs in this latest set, especially "Smoke Break" and "Mind Reader"! I'm with you on "Top of the World," too. I never understood the hate it got, either. It was a fairly generic song and nothing super exciting for a lead single, but it was head-and-shoulders above the two lead singles that preceded it, so that alone made me relieved. Beyond that though, I actually really liked it though, particularly the verses which I felt had a kind of old school country vibe to them vocally that I enjoyed a lot. It's funny you liked the chorus the most, because for me the verses are the selling point!

90. "Roots" - Parmalee Peak: 18 Total Points: 421 Certification: Gold
Parmalee did a really great job with this song. I don't really have much to say about this group, other than they are racking up a string of pretty solid hits in the last couple years, so I probably should check their material out more. For some reason I am just shocked every time I hear one of their songs and realize that they are pretty good, and I have no idea why that should come as such a shock to me. They obviously have vocal talent, and this song really showcases that. The production is pretty good too, although a little boring at first. My overall hesitance towards this group resulted in this song losing steam just inside the top 20 (plus chart clog was a huge factor). But this is a very solid song!
No, I can't outrun these roots, Even if I wanted to, 'Cause they run too strong, run too deep, Cutting right through the heart of me. No, it don't matter where I plant these boots; I can't outrun these roots.

89. "Song For Another Time" - Old Dominion Peak: 17 Total Points: 433 Certification: Gold
Old Dominion is a group that I really do not WANT to like, because their first single "Break Up With Him" was just SO AWFUL. But I surprisingly loved "Snapback", and this song is almost as good! The lyrics almost feel a little choppy and cliched thanks to the fact that they are constant references to other songs. But the melody is still very strong, the vocals are solid, and the production is actually good! I am still not completely sold on Old Dominion, but I must admit that I will probably warm up to them if they continue to release songs like this rather than terrible bro country shlock like their debut.
Before you lose that loving feeling, Let's go dancing on the ceiling. Keep on living that teenage dream, Paradise city where the grass is green; Pretty soon I'll be so lonesome I could cry, But that's a song for another time.

88. "Make You Mine" - High Valley Peak: 19 Total Points: 435 Certification: Gold
Despite my usual trepidation and hesitance with regards to new artists, I cannot help but love this song! The verses and chorus are both super infectious, and they complement each other well. I have no idea what High Valley's future at country radio will be, but I am glad this song has managed to be a bit of a hit this year on country radio. It is catchy as hell, and the instrumentation is like a breath of fresh air straight from the mid-00s! This is a song that Zac Brown Band could totally kill. But regardless of who sings it, this is a just plain good song. The lyrics are unfortunately bland, but the melody more than makes up for it. This song pretty much gets stuck in my head every time I hear it, but I don't mind.
You were made to shine under Southern stars, Pure as the mountain rain. You're the love songs pouring out of this guitar, Sweeter than sugarcane.

87. "Snapback" - Old Dominion Peak: 14 Total Points: 446 Certification: Gold
Apparently tonight is the night for groups, because this is the 4th straight group in a row! Now, for some reason, I absolutely love this song. It is totally inexcusable, but I can't help it! For some reason, every time this comes on the radio (which is still does, frequently) I cannot help but turn it up a little. And I tried so hard to hate this song too! After how terrible the lead single was, I was bound and determined to hate everything to do with Old Dominion. Then the first time I heard this song, I thought the below lyric said, "My eyes, baby, they'll feast on you." Which would be absolutely appalling word choice... Lol I couldn't believe that any song would ever say something as simultaneously cringeworthy, cheesy, and creepy as that! So there's a little funny story that I still chuckle about every time I hear this song :) I love the beat of this song too. The way it is in 4/4 with emphasized 16th notes is a very unique feel for a popular country song. It's almost like it's in cut time or something. There, now that everyone is super confused and bothered, I'll move onto the next song.
Those stars need to be wished on. Your skin needs to be kissed on. My eyes, baby, they're fixed on you In your snapback.

86. "Damn Drunk" - Ronnie Dunn ft. Kix Brooks Peak: 22 Total Points: 450 Certification: GoldRonnie Dunn is one of the best male vocalists of all time, so I am thrilled that he has finally released his new album through Nash Icon. And this new music is the best he has released in the entire ty of his solo career, in my opinion! Most of the album is good enough to bring back some serious nostalgia for Brooks & Dunn, which is something neither Kix or Ronnie has been able to come close to in their solo careers yet for me. And then there's this song. It basically IS a Brooks & Dunn song, because Ronnie invited Kix to come back and feature with him! And just like the good ole days, Ronnie is the main vocalist, with Kix singing barely-audible background vocals <3 Haha just the way it should be! Anyway, this is a very good song, although the melody is a little bit repetitive. I think the hook is extremely effective, as highlighted in the lyrics below, when Ronnie says that if his girl were a whiskey, he'd be a damn drunk. That imagery is super strong, and shows just how addicted to her love he is, and because of the context I get the impression that he WANTS to be that addicted to her. He is not making light of alcoholism, he is shedding light on the fact that he would gladly do anything for her. Ultimately the repetitive melody made me start getting tired of this song prematurely, hence the #22 peak. But it probably deserved to do better, and I do still enjoy it most of the time!If you were on the other side of the world, I'd spin that thing right back around just to get to you girl. I love the way you always go and mess me up. If you were a whiskey, girl, I'd be a damn drunk.

Mmmm... "Song for Another Time" is the only one in this set that I like at all. "Snapback" is bleh, "Make You Mine" is very grating to me, and "Roots" is a good song performed by poor vocalists with a mediocre production treatment (just a bunch of loud percussion mostly, very blah)... I want to like that one, but it just needs to be done justice and Parmalee don't deliver. SFAT had to grow on me 'fore I liked it, because I also don't want to like Old Dominion, but third time was the charm I guess for me. ETA: Oop, I missed "Damn Drunk" while posting. That one is solid, but it's a little flat for me, especially compared to "Ain't No Trucks in Texas," which was awesome. I really want to listen to his new album but last time I checked it wasn't on Spotify.

I mean, I like them all, but none of them really stick out to me as songs that I go out of my way to listen to. Haha I guess now is the time to get them out of the way though, while we're still way back in the 80s! Also, Ronnie's album is on Spotify, because I am currently listening to it!! (I know a lot of country fans gave it bad reviews, but I literally cannot even tell why, because in my opinion the entire album is 500% better than anything he has released since Brooks & Dunn split...)

Awesome! They must've waited a couple weeks to add it for some reason, because I know for a fact that when it first was released it was nowhere to be found on Spotify since I checked several times. Glad that it's on there now though so I can check it out finally!

85. "Forever Country" - Artists of Then, Now & Forever Peak: 11 (So far...) Total Points: 450 Certification: Gold
This song is amazing! I love pretty much everything about it. It is a mashup of 3 songs that are incredible and iconic in their own right, and it manages to honor all 3 of them without sounding awkward or forced. But the most awesome part is the list of artists! This group of older stars, current stars, and even a few in-betweeners is the definition of EPIC! Every artists sounds fantastic on their vocal parts, and especially in the context with all of their peers singing around them, it is all just super iconic. And then the way it goes into a bunch of random, truly mashed-up lines at the end, only to dissipate and fade out to just Dolly Parton, is goosebump-worthy. I also love how they managed to include most of my favorite artists. The only person they didn't include who I really miss is Sara Evans, but then again she has never been recognized all that much by the CMA Awards, so her omission makes sense. This song currently sits just outside the top 10 on my chart, and is nowhere close to being done!
If I should stay, I would only be in your way. So I'll go, though I know I'll think of you each step of the way.

84. "From The Ground Up" - Dan + Shay Peak: 17 Total Points: 464 Certification: Gold
Like I mentioned earlier, I am finding myself liking Dan + Shay quite a bit. This song is really sweet and romantic, which is something I frequently enjoy in songs. That being said, I think the melody in the chorus is weak. I like their voices, and I like the lyrics, but the chorus is just too long in general, and the melody holds it back and makes it feel like it is plodding. So naturally this song wore on me very quickly, despite the fact that it is high quality. By the time it peaked on the radio, it was unfortunately a station-changer. That is why it only peaked at #17 on my chart too. I was sick of it by the time it hit the top 30, so it just CRAWLED on my chart for several weeks while I debated with myself about being unwilling to drop it too soon but at the same time not ever wanting to move it up... In the end once it made the top 20, I was done.
Someday we'll wake up with thousands of pictures Of 65 years in this little house I won't trade for nothing the life that we built I'll kiss you goodnight and say, "I love you still."

83. "Power Of Positive Drinkin'" - Chris Janson Peak: 13 Total Points: 471 Certification: Gold
This song sounds like one of those semi-humorous drinking songs from the '90s, a la "Ten Rounds With Jose Cuervo". I didn't really want to like it when it first came out, because of my aforementioned resistance towards newer artists, and then the first time I heard it I thought the verses were lame and annoying. But by the time Chris launched into the chorus it immediately clicked with me! This song is extremely catchy! I should have realized it would be good, because "Buy Me A Boat" was a very solid lead single, so I don't know why I didn't expect much from Chris. The verses continued to wear on me the more I heard this unfortunately, which is why I got tired of this before it hit the top 10 on my chart.
Oh, where she went, I don't know, But she’s never comin' back. My life feels like a joke, But it hurts too much to laugh.

82. "After The Storm Blows Through" - Maddie & Tae Peak: 10 (So far...) Total Points: 471 Certification: GoldThis song is one of those super-special songs that only comes around once in awhile. The kind that stops you in your tracks the first time you hear it, and then proceeds to give you chills every time after that. The part of this song that I just cannot get over is the perfection of their voices together. Maddie's lead vocals soar through the air like a trumpet from the heavens, and Tae's harmonies are raw and textured, dripping with vulnerability that totally complements and enhances the lyrics. Her voice has such a dark, rich, timbre to it in the verses. It is honestly hauntingly good to me... And the impressive thing about it is that she is singing way lower than she normally seems to in their other songs. She clearly has one of the strongest vocal ranges we have heard in country music for some time. The fact that I am able to obsess over little vocal nuances means that these girls are quickly entering my fairly exclusive ring of favorites... The low position on this countdown is by no means an indication of how I feel about this song. This song has just entered the top 10 on my chart, so look for it to continue gaining for awhile, and finishing much better on the 2017 year-end chart! You've been walking around with a dark cloud Hanging over every step you take. Like the slightest breeze will knock you to your knees, Doing your best not to break. Wish I had the words to tell ya, but I got an umbrella And I think it's big enough for the both of us.

81. "Ain't No Trucks In Texas" - Ronnie Dunn Peak: 5 Total Points: 477 Certification: GoldRonnie Dunn shows back up with the lead single from his new album! "Ain't No Trucks In Texas" fits right in with what I said earlier about "Said No One Ever", about me always enjoying songs that say a bunch of blatant lies in order to drive home a point. (I will once again give a shameless plug for Martina's "Lies" here, because that is such a strong song!) Ironically, this is one of the most recent examples, and I completely forgot about it when I was trying to think of examples... Haha oh well Ronnie sounds just as strong as he ever did with this new music, and this song is catchy and memorable despite having somewhat forgettable lyrics. It definitely got me excited for his first Nash Icon album, reigniting my interest in Ronnie after I had been somewhat disappointed by his solo career thus far .I ain't had me one too many, and if you believe that's true, Oh, there ain't no trucks in Texas, and I ain't missing you.

80. "Lit" - Trace Adkins Peak: 14 Total Points: 478 Certification: GoldThis song is another one that definitely should NOT be this high on the countdown because it totally sucks. Except for one problem. I actually started to like this one :o Haha sorry! I'm guilty as charged! Just book me and take me away now. The lyrics are absolutely ridiculous, in fact borderline nonsensical. The melody is not exactly worth writing home about. I was ready to dismiss this immediately when I heard it. But then I noticed some things... I actually enjoy the rapid delivery of some lines, such as "Fire up that stogie when the deal is done." I love the way Trace's voice sounds, as it continues to get stronger and more resonant with age. I love the unique production and musical arrangement. AND WHAT ABOUT THE BARI SAX?????? Hahaha that's what did it for me. Little known fact, I LOVE LOVE LOVE the bari sax!!! (In fact, I play the bari sax, which undoubtedly contributes to why I love it so much!) It is just a perfect touch for this song, even if it is barely audible. This song is absolute garbage, but Trace actually managed to sell it to me... I guess when you make a career out of singing either incredible gems or abysmally awful songs, with almost no middle ground, you can get away with releasing a song like this that is actually much better than crap like "Brown Chicken Brown Cow". ;) Lucky strike in a Honky Tonk. Chicken fryin' on a chicken bone. Grandpa fishin' with dynamite. Tree too dry with the Christmas lights.

79. "Mr. Misunderstood" - Eric Church Peak: 7 Total Points: 487 Certification: Gold
Eric Church makes another appearance, this time with the title track and lead single from his current album. This song is so unique, and I just can't help but enjoy it. It has a laid-back Southern Rock feel to it, similar to classics that everyone knows like "American Pie" and "Sweet Home Alabama." And yet it still sounds country too. One of the best parts of this song for me, is how it continues to speed up throughout the song. Usually songs have a pretty static tempo, but this one very purposefully and noticeably speeds up. Unfortunately this song also is just weird enough that it is a bit of a grower, but it also wore on me quickly. It is not one that ever grew on me as much as I thought it might though, so I got a little bit tired of it. In fact, it is pretty low on this countdown for a top 10 single, merely because it had a super-fast chart run. 16 weeks is short for a top-10 hit, even on my chart, but I was ready to let it go at that point. I still enjoy listening to it sometimes, but it definitely doesn't compare to my faves from 2016.
First time I met Alabama Hannah, I was skinny as a rail. Red hair tied up in a blue bandana, She was hotter than the devil's Hell.

78. "Lovin' Lately" - Big & Rich ft. Tim McGraw Peak: 17 Total Points: 497 Certification: Gold
Big & Rich deliver yet again with this song! This song has a killer melody. The chorus reminds me very heavily of "Mandolin Rain" by Bruce Hornsby (or Pam Tillis, because hers is the version with which I am most familiar). Their choice to include Tim McGraw on this was excellent as well. Tim's voice blends so well with Kenny and John's. They would honestly make an awesome trio! I was so glad to see this song become yet another solid hit for the boys, because I had my doubts at first. They have had 3 very solid hits in a row now, which is absolutely shocking considering their overall lack of buzz and lack of a strong record label... I have not always been a big supporter of Big & Rich, but when they are releasing material like this I cannot help but root for them! As long as they continue like this, may their success continue!!
I thought that I could trust the way we made love. You made me feel it was something real. Now everything you've said is lying in our bed Like shattered glass against my back.

77. "Saltwater Gospel" - Eli Young Band Peak: 15 Total Points: 518 Certification: Gold
Well, this song is not likely to make me any friends... Haha another mostly-hated song on Pulse that actually ended up being a guilty pleasure for me! The first time I heard this song I disliked it just like everyone else. I thought the talk-singing in the chorus was stupid. But after another listen, I realized it was stuck in my head! And from that point forth I was hooked. Eli Young Band have yet to win me over, and their music has been largely hit-or-miss for me. But this song somehow managed to win me over! The chorus really has a groove to it that helps this song feel super laid-back while still being super catchy. I only charted it up to #15 because I knew the song was too terrible to make it up any further, but I never came close to getting sick of it, and will happily jam to this sometimes in the privacy of my headphones.
Every Sunday I see people filing in through those front doors. Got a cross up on that steeple, yeah it's time to praise the Lord. Some watch it on their TV, sittin' on the couch. Me, I get in my old Bronco and point those headlights out. Oh, ain't got too many miles to go to save my soul.

76. "How I'll Always Be" - Tim McGraw Peak: 11 (So far...) Total Points: 523 Certification: GoldTimmy comes back for more! Tim goes back to his roots for this song, which would absolutely fit right in among some of his early '00s work. I absolutely love the dobro during the musical intro and throughout the song. That instrument hasn't made many appearances in 2016, so we have to celebrate it when it actually does show up! I love the production and instrumentation of this whole song, actually. So it is unfortunate to admit that I actually find the song to be a bit of a let-down. Something about it is just slightly boring to me. Tim sounds great, the instrumentation sounds awesome, but the melody is what falls flat for me. It is still a song that I enjoy every time I hear it, but it has never grown to be one that I love. Also, the song seems to imply that the narrator is a rebel for the ways that he will always be, but all he lists is a bunch of things that literally everyone would agree with in some capacity... Still, I am thankful that Tim is releasing awesome country songs like this rather than horrible trend-chasing pop songs like "Lookin' For That Girl"!I'm a fan of chert rock bouncing off a Chevy fender. That feeling that you get the first time she lets ya kiss her. Rusty roofs that rattle when the rain is fallin' down. Handshake deals, fresh cut hay fields, and hometowns.
Alright, #85-76 are all new, which should get us completely caught up! chicken077, castleoblivion26, trustypepper, .indulgecountry, Leo ✔, d3vin44, someguy, gardyfan, codyj100, Kanenrá:ke, g8erboi, raylatch98

I love "Saltwater Gospel" so you and I are in the minority here at Pulse. Haha. "How I'll Always Be" is also one of my favorites. I wish more had been released from the Damn Country Music album, but I honestly can't complain. Much like you and .indulgecountry, I too liked "Top Of The World." It was no "Lookin' For That Girl" and for that, I'm thankful. It was a strong era. I loved "Humble and Kind" and with "How I'll Always Be" as a follow up - let's just say, my ears were pleased. Side note: I find it interesting that since signing with Big Machine, Tim's eras have started out with a more radio friendly single and then gone to a more "back to roots" approach. I'm looking forward to the rest of the countdown, because these songs have just been stellar.
