Artist: Brandy Clark Single: "Girl Next Door" Writers: Brandy Clark, Shane McAnally, Jessie Dillon Album: Big Day In A Small TownAdd Date: February 15th, 2016 Label: Warner Bros. Records (Los Angeles) Brandy said that a song called "Girl Next Door" will be her first single from her new album, due out next year. Brandy is of course with Warner Bros. Records L.A. division (not Nashville) but she is a country artist and this song will get promoted through some promotional team to country radio. That doesn't mean it will likely do much of anything but new Brandy Clark music is always a great thing. :) Album Release Date: April 1st (thanks to avalyn )

Can't wait for new music from her!

sabre14 Brandy just said on the livestream tonight April 1st for the album, she clarified and joke that wasn't an April Fool's joke. She also said this song goes to radio February 15th and to request around "Valentine's Day".

As someone who discovered her after her Grammy nomination last year and loved 12 Stories, I cannot wait for it!

This song is so, so good and so tongue-in-cheek. Great chorus, solid hook. She's such a light.

Brandy just tweeted that this was played this afternoon. Not sure what radio station, but I am sure we will be able to hear it soon.

Really excited for this as well! I just hope this song can get somewhere on radio... I'm tired of having my favorite country artists completely ignored on Country radio :'(

Brandy had an interview this morning with WCOL, where she talked about "Girl Next Door", her songs that other artists have recorded and her favorite past artists. WCOL Interview

While I wasn't fond of Brandy's performance back in December, I cannot wait to hear this. This was actually one which sounded like a great fit for radio. (Not sonically, but lyrically).

Interesting....it looks like Warner Music Nashville will be working "Girl Next Door" to country radio. As most of us know, Brandy signed a major label deal last year with Warner Bros. Records, but it was the Los Angeles division that signed her, not Warner Nashville. Brandy is currently on her radio tour, and she's being accompanied by members of the WMN promo team. www.allaccess.com/country/industry-snap/q/id/515929I'm not terribly surprised by this news (it makes sense that a Warner Bros. label would promote a Warner Bros. artist), but then again, if Warner Music Nashville is going to "push" her to country radio, I don't understand why Esposito and Co. didn't just sign her in Nashville (the article at the link above lists Brandy as a Warner Music Nashville artist, but that's technically incorrect. She was scooped up by Warner Bros. Los Angeles). Anyway, I figured Brandy's team would get one of the Warner Nashville promo teams to sign on for country radio, but it was also possible that a Nashville-based indie label (any label from Thirty Tigers to Big Machine) could have picked up promotion. With a Nashville-based major label behind this song, it'll definitely have a chance to make some sort of impact on the charts. It's hard to say (especially since I haven't heard the song yet), but top 40 or perhaps even better could certainly be a possibility for this one.

My contact at WYRK said that her label is giving her the normal procedure for a new artist. She's currently starting her radio tour and she's probably got quite the busy schedule in the coming weeks. I like you jhomes87 don't know why she wasn't just signed to the Nashville label home. I always knew she would be promoted to country radio, so I guess that the LA home was because they didn't have room for Brandy in terms of marketing? Or roster space? They did add a few artists since then, so who knows. This one will chart though, no doubt. It remains to be seen if this can get top 40 but I'll remain pessimistic about that happening. They already have the album release date tentatively scheduled, which could mean they know there's a realistic limit for how high this can get on the airplay charts.

They did add a few artists since then, so who knows. This is just speculation on my part, but I wonder if artists like Brandy Clark and Sturgill Simpson signed with non-Nashville labels (Brandy with Warner Bros. in LA, Sturgill with Atlantic in New York) because the big Nashville labels more or less told them that their music wasn't the type of music that country radio would play? And now perhaps Warner Nashville decided to "buy in" on the hype with Brandy after all, maybe after seeing Chris Stapleton's recent success? I don't know if Sturgill's team (his management and also the Atlantic brass) will try to rope in Warner Nashville later this year when he releases his next album, and even if they do, I still have my doubts that Brandy and/or Sturgill will ever see a ton of radio success, mostly because the cynic in me sees all the non-country music being marketed to country radio these days and I don't really think that country radio will all of the sudden make room for a bunch of super traditional country artists. Stapleton is probably the exception...his voice on the CMA stage made it impossible for country radio to ignore him any longer. But maybe it has nothing to do with Stapleton after all. Maybe Warner Bros. LA just got to Brandy before Warner Nashville could? And maybe they "understood" Brandy more and offered her a contract that was more to her liking? In any case, I'm glad to see that there's some hype for artists like Brandy and Sturgill, especially considering the fact that they haven't gotten nearly the national exposure that most other country artists (who get played by country radio) have gotten.

And now perhaps Warner Nashville decided to "buy in" on the hype with Brandy after all, maybe after seeing Chris Stapleton's recent success? I think that this is it precisely. The Nashville labels build promotion around country radio, and at the time that Brandy was in conversations about record deals, country radio was showing little to no interest in her more thoughtful storytelling or in playing fresh female talent, plus UMG Nashville and Warner Nashville had already passed on 12 Stories. As an Americana artist able to generate major mainstream plaudits, it made more sense at the time for Brandy to sign with a New York/L.A.-based major that could facilitate a marketing campaign focused on the kind of NPR/prestige-type outlets where Brandy's music was most likely to connect. John Esposito may have cited Chris Stapleton's breakthrough as potentially helpful to Ashley Monroe and Brandy Clark in this Rolling Stone year in review feature:It's not clear who mentioned Ashley and Brandy and whose idea it was to lump Chris Janson in with them, but still, I think you're right that the current winds in country have the majors thinking, "Why not give artists like Ashley and Brandy a rollout at radio and see what happens?" Ashley's attempt didn't last very long, and she remains off of country radio. We'll see what happens with Brandy. I tend to agree with your assessment of her mainstream radio prospects as well as sabre14's, even in a climate more receptive to substance and quality, but hey, you never know.

I really like this song! It's definitely vintage Brandy Clark, but I also don't think it would sound out of place on a 2016 country radio station playlist. I'm cautiously optimistic about its chances.

Rolling Stone covered an article about the CMT's Next Women of Country Tour and talked a bit about Brandy's new music. Jay Joyce produced her sophomore album, Big Day In A Small Town. "Girl Next Door" goes to iTunes tonight at midnight. :)

On iTunes now. Love it! It surprisingly really fits in with what's playing on the radio these days! I have high hopes for Ms. Clark!
