Adele's rise on radio is very impressive, but I feel it could burn out pretty fast at this rate. It will reach its Airplay peak in a week or two and then start falling. Video has already been released, so streaming will fall continuously. And so will the sales. Thus it may not have as many weeks at #1 as it otherwise would have had if, say, the video was released later. Still, 7-8 weeks at #1 is nothing to laugh at.
BTW early sales trend for this week:
Hello: 350k Sorry: 150k Love Yourself: 100k Hotline Bling: 90k What Do You Mean: 70k The Hills: 50k

I think Adele's label wants Hello to have a long stay at #1, so I don't think they'll be in that big of a hurry to release the second single when the first is setting all sorts of records.

I think Hello will reach around 250 million on AI, hold that number for a couple of weeks, and then fall slowly. Her airplay will also get another boost when AC returns to playing non-Christmas music. Also, the song's sales and streaming should get a boost through the Christmas Season. I think it'll stay at #1 until at least mid-January, since the sales and streaming should persuade radio to keep playing the song at power rotation levels across many formats.

Try to respond outside of the [] brackets and you should be fine. I also agree with you when it comes to airplay because this is charting across multiple formats unlike "Wildest Dreams" right now. With the 0% burnout rate among the more popular formats I don't see this hitting a wall for quite a few weeks. The only thing stopping this is Adele herself and radio co-spinning a song they deem to be the next single.

So many legends in the 1980 chart, from different genres. Great songs as well! 1985 showing once again the popularity of soundtracks. I think no other year had so many hit songs linked to TV series, movies or in this case actors too. Madonna about to leave the top 10 in 2000 with a song that had an unusually strong performance in the top 10 for her. Two months in the top 2. I think longer than TAB or LAV. Unfortunately her last #1 so far but in any case great to see her strength when she was already an older act in the charts

Great chart from 2014. Maybe I'll start a tradition for myself of watching the previous year's chart on HRChart every week. It's so good!

Music was the last physical single to sell over 1 million copies, 1.15 million. Clay Akins This Is The Night was the last Platinum physical single, but it stopped at around 950k.

Unless Adele suffered from a sizeable loss in audience at AC on Sunday, which can't be ruled out with much of the format switching to Christmas, she should reach #1 on AI and BB's HRS today. Since HRS was expanded to include all formats, the last group being Latin in early 2000, the record for the fastest climb has been held by Destiny Child's Survivor, which reached #1 in 5 weeks on 14 Apr 01 (38-12-4-3-1). So Hello would set the All Formats HRS record should she reach #1 in four weeks (really 3.5) this week.

Good god that version of The Wanderer by Donna Summer was atrocious. It always amazes me that it was able to peak this high as it is easily one of her worst top 10 singles. It's also amusing when I listen to classic Casey's AT40 countdowns and see how fast this plummeted out of the countdown following its bizarre high peak.

Next week, we're going to have One Sweet Day's debut. Such a shame that Mariah actually missed two chances to set the record as the first female to replace herself at #1 though. Fantasy -> One Sweet Day (Interrupted by Whitney), and We Belong Together -> Shake It Off (Kanye's interruption).

It's also amusing when I listen to classic Casey's AT40 countdowns and see how fast this plummeted out of the countdown following its bizarre high peak. It was/is a very unusual song. Possibly her least played or remembered song even w. it being a solid top 3 hit. I thought there was only one 'version'? Not a 'bad' song- just so out there and way too try hard to be different for her. Overall, it's pretty bland, soulless and doesn't come close to almost all her pic. perfect iconic songs from the 70s. Clearly, anything she put out was gonna be semi huge as she basically defined the 70s and was one of, if not the biggest female on the charts. Like today and the way it's always been- when you have a string of endless mega hits, any first new single is gonna most likely go at least top 10, While a #3 peak isn't bad and it went gold, the single overall and esp. the album majorly under-performed. Missed the top 10! That, after 2 or 3 or #1 albums in a row! Crazy. She was massive in/around that time. Def the Beyonce/Rihanna back then. Plus, no doubt, she was part of the intense disco backlash going on the that time. Radio and culture dramatically changed in just one short year. Just the word 'disco' was toxic and poison to the GP :/.
