I get and understand all the comments. I was just imagining a scenario where you subscribe to streaming service for 10 years, you pay your monthly fee and then all of a sudden you have different priorities in your life. Hard to imagine now, but it could happen. In my case, I don't listen to just current music, I listen to older stuff too. What happens if in that case, you want to listen to something that is 5 years old and you have decided you do not want to pay your Spotify bill any longer? As suggested, you adapt. But that involves probably spending extra money. to buy that 5 year old album Probably weird, probably unlikely. I probably have no clue what I am saying. Unless it is true Spotify now = Spotify forever then something down the road will change and if you want to listen to that 5 year old album you might eventually have to buy it. Subscription rates could increase, artists could pull their catalogs, anything could happen. But in the here and now, I understand what people are saying. 10 dollars seems to get a lot of entertainment for the money. Your points make a certain sense and everyone is entitled to enjoy music any way they look. But really we don't know if in 5, 10, 20 years there will be yet another medium that makes things antiquated. Someone with an amazing vinyl LP collection 30 years ago has likely repurchased a number of those albums, possibly more than once in multiple formats. My point is just that embracing streaming doesn't mean you're irreparably destroying your future music collection.

I'm always in a panic about my music collection lol but I just don't care for the whole digital or streaming stuff. I do still like to purchase actually CDs and support artists. I only buy maybe 10-15 discs a year and get the rest of the music from friends, DJs, online, libraries, etc. But I just don't care for the whole "streaming" thing. I've been against it for so long, but it does have a lot of positives. Who knows, maybe I will eventually cave.

I will say that I have been subscribing to streaming services for almost 13 years now (first Rhapsody and now Spotify), and I have absolutely no regrets. I'll admit that early on when streaming was new there were problems with some artists not being available and losing my collection and having to re-add everything, but even then the money, time, and convenience I saved was not even a question, and this problem has been vastly improved now. I have had to purchase maybe 2 or 3 albums in the past year that weren't available, and the fact that you can listen to your music offline to me makes it indistinguishable from iTunes/digital download purchases.

I'm a bit shocked that "19" is at less than 3 million sold. I mean, if there is such hype surrounding the follow-up to "21" that she could sell almost 3 million copies of that in the first week - it seems odd that the prequel to "21" couldn't even sell that in its entire 6 year plus life span. Oh well, cult of the new, I guess.

I'll never understand why people pay to rent music. Well if I stuck to iTunes purchases, I would need like a $500-$1000 a year allowance for desired music purchases. And I simply can't afford that. $120 a year is much more reasonable to me to listen to anything out there when I want. Barring the occasional exception like 25 of course. And I still do buy physical albums from my top artists.

Doesn't Hits usually post their bit by now? I'm getting greedy here since we already got the billboard article. I have a feeling they may be gathering additional data to "out do" what Billboard posted. Since Billboard uses Soundscan sales to compile their charts and HITS does not, how can HITS out do Billboard? HITS posted last Saturday late afternoon. I meant like giving additional info on physical copies. Weird that Hits still hasn't posted anything.

HITS really missed the mark here by not releasing their estimates - the Billboard article is being linked across a broad array of publications - CNBC, Drudge, CNN, USAToday, Variety, Time, etc.

I really thought it'd sold way more than that. Didn't it sell 1 mi after just 10 days or something? Guess sales really stalled after the first couple of weeks.

ADELE: BYE BYE BYE, RECORD BOOKS
Adele is now on track not just to break the existing record for first-week sales (NSYNC's 2.3m), but to smash it to dust. The current projection for the debut of her new XL/Columbia set, 25, is 2.5-2.9m.
Could even this astronomical number be a conservative estimate? Will last night’s SNL performance push her still further into the stratosphere? How huge is huge?

I would love to see her hit 3 million in sales. She's already almost 4x platinum since they sent 3.6 million right off the bat. I wouldn't be surprised to see her sell close to 5 million total after black friday week. Black Friday alone, she should sell at least a million.

They are going to use Bye bye bye or Oops Adele did it again. I'm thinking 2.8M-3.2M with the promotion set up after the 1 day sales forecase was tallied.

I don't even know what to say about this insanity. Sit back and watch y'all... ADELE’S 25 IS ON FIRE AND MAKING HISTORY: 1.9M SOLD IN JUST TWO DAYS IN THE USIt’s fair to say this is going better than anyone dared expect. Adele’s 25 sold a scarcely believable 1.9m copies in its first two days on sale in the US, according to early data from reliable local retail monitor BuzzAngle – and therefore obviously shifted more than 2m copies across the world in the same timeframe. Sixty-two percent of these US sales (around 1.18m) were digital downloads, says BuzzAngle – after Adele and her Stateside label Columbia (Sony) notoriously decided not to put the album on streaming services such as Spotify. Of the 38% of US sales (722,000) on physical formats, 98% were on CD, with 2% on vinyl.

Adele is literally shitting on the entire music industry.
My friend and I were talking about Adele today and she asked, "what's her main demographic?"...
I said "everyone"... Honestly the truth! This is insane!

There is no limit! This will likely end up on the high end of the Hits projection. The early estimates were at 1M digital (already surpassed) and 1.5 physical (almost halfway there).

I'll never understand why people pay to rent music. $10/mo to listen to 99.9% of music ever released, any time you want, instantly... not sure why someone WOULDN'T take that deal. If you live in NYC and travel everywhere by subway and never have any cell phone service!! Haha. Plus I just enjoy having the physical CD for my collection sometime. I get the appeal of both, but I like to unplug sometimes and still have access to my music.
