Adele's '25' Officially Scores Record Million-Selling Second Week in U.S.

It is the first album to sell a million copies in two different weeks since Nielsen began tracking sales data in 1991.

After its record 3.38 million-selling debut week, Adele's 25 has surpassed 1 million sold in the U.S. in its second week, according to Nielsen Music. It makes more history by becoming the first album to sell a million copies in two different weeks since Nielsen began tracking sales data in 1991.

25 surpasses the mark with slightly less than one day of data remaining to be processed by Nielsen in the tracking week (ending Dec. 3).

25 became just the 20th album to sell a million copies in a single week (in Nielsen history) when it arrived with 3.38 million sold in the week ending Nov. 26. Until this week, no album had ever sold a million copies in more than one week.

Billboard is scheduled to report 25's final second-week sales on Sunday, Dec. 6, once Nielsen has finished processing the full week of data.

Off the top of my head I can tell you the top 3 are Eminem, Adele, and 50 Cent. Eminem's was due to a street date violation while Adele and 50 Cent are legitimate sales from a proper release schedule.

Second week she did 650k Friday/Saturday/Sunday (average of ~216k/day). But album sales should be bigger this weekend than last weekend due to the increase in sales due to the xmas rush.

She also must of done ~160k day 6 if she did at least 840k days 1-5 and then passed 1 million with almost a day sales still left to analyse. So she's selling huge amounts on weekdays still too.

This is all just so exciting!

I think your week 3 and 4 are likely much too high (prob more likely 500-700k range) but week 5 numbers are feasible. The Beatles' 1 managed it in a non-debut week so why not Adele?

The final sales figures are in for the second week of Adele’s 25. Nielsen Music reports that it sold 1.11 million in pure album sales in the seven days ending Dec. 3 in the U.S.

As earlier reported, 25 is now the first album to sell a million copies in two different weeks since Nielsen began tracking point-of-sale purchases in 1991.

In its first two weeks on sale, 25 has sold a whopping 4.49 million copies. The set debuted with a record-breaking 3.38 million sold in its first week.

25 was already the top selling album of 2015 (after less than a week on sale), and is now the best selling album of any year since 2011 -- when Adele’s own 21 was tops (with 5.8 million sold).

In addition, 25 will easily spend a second week at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart (dated Dec. 19).

The Billboard 200 chart ranks the most popular albums of the week based on multi-metric consumption, which includes traditional album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA). The top 10 of the chart is scheduled to be announced on Dec. 6, along with 25’s total consumption figure for the week.

25 was released on Nov. 20 through XL Recordings/Columbia Records. It is Adele’s third studio album, and follows her blockbuster 21 effort. The latter title spent 24 weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart, and ruled as the top selling album of both 2011 and 2012.

As reported on Dec. 5, Adele’s 25 album rules the Billboard 200 chart for a second week. The set earned 1.16 million equivalent album units in the U.S. in the week ending Dec. 3 (down 67 percent), according to Nielsen Music. Of that figure, 1.11 million were in pure album sales (dipping 67 percent as well).

The Billboard 200 chart ranks the most popular albums of the week based on multi-metric consumption, which includes traditional album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA). The new Dec. 19-dated chart (where Adele is No. 1) will be posted in full to Billboard’s websites on Tuesday, Dec. 8.

In its first two weeks on sale, 25 sold 4.49 million copies. A week ago, the set blasted onto the Billboard 200 chart with 3.48 million equivalent album units — with 3.38 million of those in pure album sales.

To put the 4.49 million sales figure in perspective: 30 percent of all albums sold in the U.S. in the last two weeks have been 25 (4.49 million of the 14.8 million total copies sold).

Also, 25 remains No. 1 on the Digital Albums chart for a second frame, as it sold another 236,000 downloads for the week. Its two-week digital sales tally stands at 1.88 million. It is now the third-largest selling digital album ever (jumping ahead of the 1.77 million of Mumford & Sons’ Sigh No More). Adele already has the top selling digital album ever: 21, with 3.19 million. Taylor Swift’s 1989 is the second biggest selling digital set, with 2.31 million.

At No. 2 on the new Billboard 200 chart is Justin Bieber’s former No. 1, Purpose. It holds at No. 2 for a second week, shifting 211,000 units (down 27 percent).

Pentatonix’s holiday effort That’s Christmas to Me jumps 6-3 with 94,000 units. The album was released in 2014, finished that year as the top selling Christmas set, and was recently reissued with bonus tracks in time for the 2015 holiday season.

One Direction’s Made in the A.M. slips one rung to No. 4 (82,000 units; down 25 percent) while Swift’s 1989 climbs 11-5 with 60,000 units (up 56 percent). 1989’s jump is owed in part to a significant gain in digital sales for the set: up 154 percent to 23,000 downloads for the week. 1989 was one of a number of sale-priced titles promoted in the iTunes Store during the tracking week, capitalizing on the Black Friday shopping holiday (Nov. 27, which was also the first day of the most recent tracking week). 1989 and other titles (like Carrie Underwood’s Storyteller and Fetty Wap’s self-titled set) were discounted to $6.99 for a limited time.

The Weeknd’s Beauty Behind the Madness falls 5-6 on the new Billboard 200 with 60,000 units (down 6 percent), Underwood’s Storyteller vaults 14-7 (48,000 units; up 51 percent) and Fetty Wap’s eponymous album climbs 10-8 (47,000 units; up 21 percent).

Michael Buble’s former No. 1 album, Christmas, returns to the top 10, as it rises 28-9 (41,000 units; up 77 percent). The album, which was released in 2011 and spent five weeks atop the list, has returned to the top 10 in every subsequent holiday season.

The Now 56 compilation closes out the top 10, as it ascends 12-10 with 40,000 units (up 7 percent).

Adele retains the top spot on Billboard's Top 200 albums chart this week. The Weeknd and Fetty Wap have the only Rap and R&B albums in the Top 10. Erykah Badu's But You Caint Use My Phone debuts within the Top 20 with the help of streaming. Jadakiss falls off in Top 5 Dead or Alive's second week. The Notorious B.I.G.'s Greatest Hits shoots up the chart. Future's Dirty Sprite 2 falls out of the Top 10 Rap & R&B albums for the first time since its release. It lands at #46 with 15,972 album units and 12.3 million streams.

Erykah Badu Rings Success

Erykah Badu's But You Caint Use My Phone debuts at #14 on the chart. The mixtape, which was released through Motown, features Andre 3000 and comes after the singer remixed Drake's "Hotline Bling." But You Caint Use My Phone sold 35,000 album units and was streamed more than two million times. This is Badu's first full-length project since the New Amerykah series, which released in 2007 and 2010.

Jadakiss Drops In Second Week

Jadakiss saw a 74 percent drop in sales to land Top 5 Dead or Alive at #44 in its second week on the chart. The LOX rapper's project debuted at #4. This week, it sold almost 17,000 units and was streamed 2.5 million times.

The Notorious B.I.G. Resurrects Sales

The Notorious B.I.G. makes a 54 percent leap in sales this week with his Greatest Hits album landing at the #48 position. This beats out projects from J. Cole, Kendrick Lamar and Travi$ Scott. Greatest Hits sold 15,654 album equivalent units, 13,310 albums and was streamed 2,234,409 times.
