What's with a lot of songs having large gains or large losses? I assume the large losses are from stations adding more Christmas music but there's a lot of songs with large gains too Nope! It's a 3-day update. Whoops!! I should've read that haha

Weird that "Hello" didn't get a significant sales increase from her NBC special?

Weird that "Hello" didn't get a significant sales increase from her NBC special? Well, the song is literally inescapable and everywhere at the moment. A performance of it wasn't really going to push it that much.

What format was When We Were Young just added to? Surprisingly, it might end up not doing too well on the overall Hot 100, given the astronomical album sales, most people who would buy the single might already have the album, and of course it's missing from streaming. Unless the video becomes really huge, or they end up releasing the song to Spotify and other streaming services. If they're aiming for another number one, it seems they have no choice but to do that. Hello is still selling 150K+/week, and it's on the same album PLUS has 3 million of its own single sales. No, When We Were Young probably won't ever post a 400K sales week, but there's no reason why it couldn't sell ~100K/week when it truly takes off at radio. And in today's era, when you combine that with massive multi-format airplay and what should be a popular music video, it should be able to contend for #1. Yes. 1989 sold 5 million and Wildest Dreams was #5 on Hot 100.

Whenever I see the list of Spotify Streaming, I think that it's impossible to know the real methodology of the Hot 100. Some people think streaming counts more than sales and airplay, but these three aren't good for Ex's & Oh's (Spotify is probably the worse for this song), for example, and it still doing well on Hot 100. In The Night is only #30 on Spotify...

Does 150 million audience impressions seriously mean that approximately 150 million people have listened to this song on the car? If so, then in the US the number of songs one comes across through radio in a week is gonna be ASTRONOMICAL. I mean, it's like, you hear 100 songs on radio per day?

I'm not sure exactly what they assume, but it's an estimation so they no doubt will be making numerous assumptions. I think they estimate stuff like the audience of each radio station at the time of day each song is played (e.g. a spin at 4am would contribute less AI than a spin at 4pm, and a play on Z100 would contribute more AI than a spin on a small station). It's not just cars either, radio stations sometimes broadcast in places like shops of offices where a large number (i.e. dozens) of people could be listening, and I think they probably take that into account in their estimations too. These AI figures won't ever be completely accurate, but I'm sure they try their best to get good estimations.

It means the song was heard 150m times. So if 15 million people each heard the same song 10 times in a week it would be 150m impressions. So they just assume that there's only one person in a car? It's based on the average number of listeners who listen to the stations at different points of each day of the week.

The videos count for Spotify? No, but they can get easily shared in video form. This just all around raises their popularity meaning larger streams all around. Also, Justin Bieber just straight up appeals to more people than One Direction. He always has.

Though 1D has a large hardcore fanbase, I think they have a smaller casual fanbase compared to Bieber.

1/2/16 Hot 100 www.billboard.com/articles/columns/chart-beat/6813934/adele-25-billboard-200-biggest-selling-album-since-2011Just outside the top 10, The Voice winner Jordan Smith arrives at No. 11 with The Complete Season 9 Collection (48,000 units; 8,000 in pure album sales). The set had the highest track equivalent unit total of an album on the chart this week: 40,000 units, owed to the strong sales of the tracks on the album. It’s no surprise then to see that Smith dominates the top of the Digital Songs chart, with four titles in the top 20, including the No. 1: “Mary, Did You Know” (a debut with 161,000 downloads).

Not trying to pull a ZSOG here, but does Sorry still have a chance to hit #1 on the Hot 100?

Not trying to pull a ZSOG here, but does Sorry still have a chance to hit #1 on the Hot 100? Gift card week is its best bet I think.
