This space is where you will find my countdown of the 100 biggest songs of 2015, according to my chart Mike's Top 40. As I've stated in my chart thread, throughout the week I'll be counting down the Top 100. I've divided the countdown into 7 segments, one for each day of the week ahead. How did I compile the Top 100, you might ask? Well, this year I used a method that I haven't yet done before. I added up chart points using two methods: - One, a straight-inverse tally (#1 = 40 points, #2 = 39 points, etc.).
- The other, a "pyramid"-type tally. The way that tally works is: #40 = 1 point, #39 = 1 point + 2 points, #38 = 1 point + 2 points + 3 points...and so on, upward.
Well...in the end, I couldn't decide which survey of the two I wanted to use. So - I decided to use them both! Sort of. I compared the two surveys against each other - the rankings fell into place based on how the songs fared against each other, relative to their respective positions/point tallies in each survey. It'll start to make sense as we get going, I promise. :) (I will also note that the #1 song finished atop both surveys, so that was never in dispute.) Expect the countdown to begin sometime tomorrow afternoon (EST). Exact hour TBD. @jakelmmrs44 Juan Carlos yuh yuh Mikey josh Kurt Daryl the Beryl Rocky β The Manticore β― @drag27 Zeebz surfy Devil Marlena Nylund Flip Sean Albie ry4n

That's kind of how I did the points for my chart too. I combined inverse and then also gave "bonus" points to certain positions within the Top 40. So in total, a #1 song got 200 points, #2 got 191, #3 got 183. A much better result than just only inverse.

Welcome, everyone to my countdown of the 100 biggest songs of 2015 according to my chart, Mike's Top 40! :) As I've stated, my survey period spans the calendar year, from the first week of January to the last week of December. It'll run one hour apiece for each of 7 days, concluding on Saturday. Exact times on each day will depend on that day's availability. (In other words, don't expect this to run from 3-4 PM EST on all 7 days.) Without further ado - off we go!! :) @jakelmmrs44 Juan Carlos yuh yuh Mikey josh Kurt Daryl the Beryl Rocky β The Manticore β― @drag27 Zeebz surfy Devil Marlena Nylund Flip Sean Albie ry4n Au$tin

#100 To the best that I can recall, I've never had a year-end chart kick off with a currently-charting song. Well, this year, I do. It's the first of two songs from Adam Lambert. Here he is, at #100 with: Adam Lambert - The Original High Peak: #14 (so far) Weeks charted: 11 to date Inverse total: 168 points (Survey ranking: #99) Pyramid total: 1690 points (Survey ranking: #100)

Adam Lambert, with the title track to his album The Original High...and you know, this song almost didn't get much of a run. It debuted in October, but it seemed like I was going to sweep it away because it wasn't managing to hold up very well. Somehow the song just started clicking with me again, and at the moment he looks to still have some life left in this song. All that is good enough to kick off the year-end survey at #100! On the Inverse survey, he actually tied with another song in points. The song he tied with, is up next: #99 And for this song, we'll flip the calendar to the beginning of the year. This song was part of the initial 40 when I started the chart back up at the beginning of this year. It moved briskly upward to #18, only to then stall there for three weeks, because that's when I burned fast on it. That's still good enough to place it at #99 for the year: Rico Love - Somebody Else Peak: #18 Weeks charted: 10 Inverse total: 168 points (#100) Pyramid total: 1705 points (#99)

One of a few songs to rank in my year in review from the world of Urban...#99, Rico Love and "Somebody Else". #98 Here's one of six Country acts to appear in my year-end survey, and one of only two to appear twice. Actually, he's the only Country act who managed to chart as many as three times during the year. His current single, "Rocket", fell short of the Top 100, but right here at #98 is the song that started things for him. It's a song that I wasn't quite into at first, but it still had something about it that made me want to go back to it again anyway. So I went back again...and again...and again...and, well, the rest is history. That song, at #98 for the year, is: Josh Dorr - Save Your Breath Peak: #17 Weeks charted: 11 Inverse total: 174 points (#97) Pyramid total: 1759 points (#98)

#98, Josh Dorr and "Save Your Breath". We'll hear "All or Nothing" coming up a little bit later on in the Top 100.
Up next, however: We'll hear more from the Urban side of things.

So glad you could join us for my special presentation of my 100 biggest songs of the year. :) #97 This song went Top 5 on the Urban AC chart a couple of months ago. On my chart, it was part of a wave of "blue-eyed soul" sounds and singers that took up residence for a little while. At #97: Robin Thicke - Morning Sun Peak: #16 Weeks charted: 13 Inverse total: 180 points (#94) Pyramid total: 1818 points (#96)

#97 on Mike's Top 100 songs of 2015, Robin Thicke with "Morning Sun". He laid down a pretty chill groove on that one. And we'll keep the chill grooves going with this next song: #96 It's just the first of many songs you'll hear throughout the week that come equipped with a dance beat. But apparently chilled out grooves are said to be the norm for this DJ. So ease back a bit, relax...and enjoy the #96 song of the year: Chris Malinchak featuring Sam Dew - When the World Stops Turning https%3A//soundcloud.com/chrismalinchak/worldstopsturningPeak: #14 Weeks charted: 11 Inverse total: 174 points (#96) Pyramid total: 1846 points (#95)

The world stopped turning for Chris Malinchak rather quickly - he got up to #14, peaked, then was gone within two weeks! But not before he racked up enough points to give himself the #96 biggest song of 2015. #95 This next dance song is not so chilled out, however. What it is, is the first of three hits in my year-end survey for this duo out of England. They're certainly not the only ones to place as many as three songs in, but what makes them unique in that regard is that they're the only ones to do it with different collaborative partners on each song. This first one is actually not from one of their own albums, rather it's from Mary J. Blige's album The London Sessions. At #95 for the year: Mary J. Blige & Disclosure - Follow Peak: #14 Weeks charted: 7 Inverse total: 161 points (#102*) Pyramid total: 2057 points (#92) *One of two songs to miss this survey's Top 100 and still rank overall.

Mary J. Blige & Disclosure, with "Follow". Though this one spent just 7 weeks on the chart, it spent 3 of those weeks at #14, anchoring itself with enough points to come in at #95 in the Top 100 of 2015. #94 Here's a song with a fairly unique status among all the songs in my year-end survey. It's the only one in the Top 100 to be born out of songs from this past year's Eurovision Song Contest. Trijnjte represented The Netherlands with this song. At #94 for the year: Trijnjte Oosterhuis - Walk Along Peak: #16 Weeks charted: 12 Inverse total: 181 points (#93) Pyramid total: 1856 points (#94)

Trijnjte (best pronounced "trinity"...I think?) worked her way up to #16 with this one. And you know...I might just decide to check out next year's Eurovision contestants a little more closely (if I'm able). #94 for 2015, "Walk Along".
Up next: We swing back over to England for some more chilled out grooves of some other distinct flavors. :)

Mike here, counting down my 100 biggest songs of 2015. #93 Now, the next three songs you'll hear are all from acts based out of England. In fact, roughly a fourth of the entire Top 100 are songs that feature some kind of English presence. Here's a trio with a hit that has a dance sound a little more reminiscent of the turn of the decade. At #93: Above & Beyond featuring Gemma Hayes - Counting Down the Days Peak: #19 Weeks charted: 14 to date Inverse total: 198 points (#88) Pyramid total: 1763 points (#97)

This one ended up having a chart run like a yo-yo...up, down, up, down, swinging up to #19 and then back down, nearly falling off the chart this week. #93 for all of 2015, Above & Beyond with Gemma Hayes and "Counting Down the Days". #92 Next, here's an English-Swedish collaboration with a bit of a 90s vibe to it. Maybe that's only fitting, since the Swede is a woman who burst onto the music scene in the later 90s. This one's a bit different compared to much of the Top 100, but it had a sound that I couldn't help but be drawn to. At #92 for the year: Kindness featuring Robyn - Who Do You Love Peak: #13 Weeks charted: 12 Inverse total: 185 points (#92) Pyramid total: 2013 points (#93)

#92, Kindness featuring Robyn, "Who Do You Love". And Robyn's actually one of six Swedish acts who appear in my year-end survey. The Swedes were oddly prolific this year! So was this next group, at #91: #91 This group lost a member during the year, but that doesn't seem to have diminished them in any way - they place three hits in my year-end survey. And the first of those, is also their most recent, looking like it's going to kick off 2016 by putting its group back in the Top 10. #91 for the year belongs to: One Direction - Perfect Peak: #12 (so far) Weeks charted: 10 to date Inverse total: 185 points (#91) Pyramid total: 2133 points (#91)

#91, One Direction and "Perfect". And you'll likely notice some similarities between this song and another one from a very famous 1D ex. You'll hear that song a little bit later on!
But what you'll hear up next, is one more from 1D!

These are my hundred biggest for 2015. And I'm Libra Mike. :) #90 We just heard the song that closes the year for One Direction at #91. At #90, is the song they began the year with. Here are 1D again with: One Direction - Night Changes Peak: #6 Weeks charted: 6 Inverse total: 161 points (#101) Pyramid total: 2536 points (#83)

Oddly enough, it was their only Top 10 hit during the year, but it only lasted the first 6 weeks of the year (shorter than any other song in the Top 100). Still good enough, however, to rank in my year-end survey at #90 - "Night Changes" by One Direction. #89 Here's a song that seems to be having multiple lives. It began as the theme for a Hulu commercial, then it crossed over to Alternative radio (where this man is now currently charting with a follow-up), and now it's currently crossing over to Pop radio! On my chart, it had just one life. It was the Hulu commercial that did it for me - I charted this during the Spring, and it got up to #15 before I did begin to wear out on it. At #89 for the year: BΓRNS - Electric Love Peak: #15 Weeks charted: 14 Inverse total: 216 points (#84) Pyramid total: 2138 points (#90)

#89 for 2015, BΓRNS with "Electric Love". #88 We just can't seem to get rid of these guys, can we? We heard their first two hits in the Top 100 at #91 and #90, and now here they are AGAIN at #88. Now, after I moved on from "Night Changes", this album track from Four drew my interest. Truth be told, I'd been listening to the whole Four album in February, and picked this to chart because I thought it was that good. The group's uncertainty when Zayn departed, however, made it hard to keep listening. This kept going up to #13, before I decided that enough was enough - but not enough to keep this from being the 88th biggest song of the year. Here they are again: One Direction - Stockholm Syndrome Peak: #13 Weeks charted: 12 Inverse total: 212 points (#85) Pyramid total: 2375 points (#87)

#88, One Direction, "Stockholm Syndrome". And as we close the book on one English group for the year, we crack the book open for another! #87 At #87 for the year is the first of four songs to rank in the Top 100 from the act that is my Top New Artist of the Year. During the year, they charted with five songs in total, tying a chart record for a single year. Four of those five made the Top 10, and those four have all found their way to the Top 100 hits of the year. Very impressive outing for this group - nearly enough to earn them the crown among ALL acts for the year! (In the end, they finished a very close second.) If you haven't figured it out by now, this group is that good. :) Their first showing in the Top 100 is also their most recent - just reached the Top 10 this week. Coming in at #87 in the Top 100 of the year: Years & Years - Eyes Shut Peak: #10 (so far) Weeks charted: 12 to date Inverse total: 211 points (#86) Pyramid total: 2446 points (#84)

#87 for 2015, Years & Years and "Eyes Shut". And even with their album Communion yielding five chart singles already, there will surely be more to come next year!
We're one hour (or one day) into Mike's Top 100 songs of the year 2015, and we've only begun to scratch the surface. There's a rollercoaster of sound up ahead - but don't just take my word for it. Join me tomorrow and listen for yourself! :)

-"Perfect" is okay. One of their better song. Sounds a lot like "Style." -"Night Changes" was a sleeper for me. It has grown on me a lot surprisingly, but it never made my chart. -"Electric Love" is starting to grow on me. It'll probably grow on me enough and end up being a big hit with me. Songs like that usually do, lol.

NOTICE: Due to previously unforeseen circumstances, I...mayyyy be forced to postpone what would be tomorrow's portion of the Top 100, back to Tuesday. :( IF that happens, then Tuesday will get a double dose. I won't really be sure if that'll be the case until tomorrow happens though. But I figured I'd give a heads-up, just in case I need to do that. Yas @ Years & Years! #1 of the year? And then if they do it again next year, they'll have been #1 of the year for years and years! lmao omg They're #2 for the year overall. It's among new acts that they are #1 for the year by a landslide. :)

OMG! I totally forgot about that Chris Malinchak track. I think the reason was that he didn't push it properly despite he labeled it as 'new single' on Soundcloud. Anyway, good to see "Electric Love" and "Eyes Shut" too.

So, after yesterday's delay, Day 2 of my Top 100 will kick off at 4 PM EST. :)
Not completely sure when Day 3 will be posted...though I'm thinking I'll have it put up either between 7-8 PM or 8-9 PM.

#86 A total of 178 songs charted during the year - and this song is the most recent of them all to make it into the Top 100. It debuted on my weekly chart back on the week of November 7th, and since then has just shot up the chart like a rocket. It's currently perched at #4, and definitely looks poised for a big run at #1 next year. Yeah, it's just that good. At #86: St. Lucia - Dancing on Glass Peak: #4 (so far) Weeks charted: 8 to date Inverse total: 187 points (#89) Pyramid total: 2757 points (#82)
