These past couple of months, it has all been about Adele, but if she hadn't released her album and its lead song, Justin Bieber would have been having a chart run unlike anything we have ever seen in recent times!

No. Don't get me wrong, Bieber has been doing exceptionally well, but not any more amazing than Katy Perry or Taylor Swift or even Adele during the 21 era.

I think Stressed Out will be #1 on iTunes very soon... I didn't expected this song would confront Love Yourself.

I'm talking about the past 7-8 weeks..... 3 songs in Top-5 for so many weeks, which other artist has done it in this century? Streaming has made this feet much more achievable than before, and I think this is why it's not such a big news story. It's cool, but WDYM would otherwise not be this high if it weren't for streaming. Other artists likely would have had this feat accomplished had streaming been a factor beforehand. Funny, the addition of streaming is what kept Bieber from getting his first #1 3.5 years ago. As for your question, I don't know exactly, but if any artist has, it's going to be one of the following: OutKast, Usher, Nicki Minaj, Lil Wayne, Drake, Rihanna, Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Taylor Swift, The Black Eyed Peas, or Adele.

Due to the resurgence after the release of Purpose, WDYM could be vying for that Starships/Sugar record...

No. Don't get me wrong, Bieber has been doing exceptionally well, but not any more amazing than Katy Perry or Taylor Swift or even Adele during the 21 era. I'm talking about the past 7-8 weeks..... 3 songs in Top-5 for so many weeks, which other artist has done it in this century? None this century - only the Beatles did it for as long. I just checked and if Adele is #1 for an 11th week, that will be the first time a female has lead that long since We Belong Together in 2005.

That's what I figured. And they had five songs in the top five at once. That's likely why Billboard isn't talking about Bieber having three. Anyway, my point was more impact versus chart positions. While no other artist has secured 3/5 of the top 5 for x amount of weeks in the past 16 years, that doesn't mean Bieber is the most successful artist this century at all. He's doing exceptionally well, sure, but I feel like the impact he's having is no greater than any of the other artists I listed above who have had highly successful album cycles as well.

Well, there would also be a record for song with most top 10 weeks after debuting in the top 10. I mean, there's a record for basically everything. Lol.

I will bet money that will be a huge thing for this board but that "record" will be considered too obscure to be written about anywhere else.
When you throw in enough conditions, "records" can exist for basically anything

with the sharp increase in streaming, that record might as well be irrelevant.
After WDYM its likely both Sorry and Hello will also beat it.

I think it's a kinda cool record for chart geeks like us on this board but no one else would care.

Anyone in this forum is a chart geek so I wouldn't look at it too closely lol.

Since people like the word "consecutive", why don't we just say the "record" refers to the "most consecutive weeks in the top 11 after debuting in the top 11" to eliminate confusion?

Yes but take out the word "consecutive" and there is no "Starships record" since it was broken by Taylor Swift

Why does that matter? The top ten is a crowning achievement. Ten is a round, even number that makes sense to cut off. 11 is not. Consecutive and non-consecutive are also pretty simple distinguishing factors here.
We're not going for some obscure thing like most weeks inside the top 47 after debuting three weeks prior to peaking inside the top 36.
Let the chart fans decide what they care about. Don't try to belittle something because it seems ridiculous to you. It's important to somebody.
If you're going to start calling certain records pointless, you might as well just get rid of all records and they all have some sort of qualifier. Most weeks at #1. Okay, but if X song had not been there, then Y song would hold said record! Artist with most charted songs. Okay, but artist X has released fewer singles and all of them have charted whereas the record holding artist has released a hundred singles and only 57 of them charted.

Subtle attempt at humor I suppose. Shake It Off had a 25 week CONSECUTIVE run in the top 11 after debuting in that region. 24 weeks were spent in the top 10 with one week at #11. The "Starships Record" stops at 21.

Actually, 50 Cent placed 3 songs in the top five in 2005 with Disco Inferno, How We Do, and Candy Shop; forgot how many weeks though.

Everyone just think about this. It took Justin Bieber so long to get a #1 and he finally got it in 2015. Now imagine Hello never existed. Sorry would be having its 8th week at #1 and possibly 9th going into next week.
That's kind of hard to imagine. Justin Bieber - "Sorry" 9 weeks at #1. Wow
