Apparently, Kacey is performing "Late to the Party" on the Late Show with Steven Colbert tonight. Possible 3rd single?

Also, it's probably one of her most "different" songs in terms of theme (a sweet love song)... If Mercury is still trying to break her recent pattern on radio, trying something different could work (hopefully)

I've been off-and-on on catching Colbert since he premiered - this gives me good reason to tune in. Is it just me tho or is "Late to the Party" kind of a perfect choice for a Friday night show? The Brazilian Guy π§π· that ship has probably long since sailed, sadly :'( ...but otherwise I'd be inclined to agree; really the only even halfway-conceivable strike I can think of against it is its being a slow song.

I thought "Dime Store Cowgirl" was getting a re-release? I doubt that'll change anything though. Their best bet is to release "Late to the Party". I played the song in front of a few friends who aren't huge country fans and even they love it.
If this doesn't work, maybe send out "Family is Family" after just for the heck of it to see if it does anything. I remember people saying The Highway was spinning it, so perhaps radio would like that one somehow, although I doubt it.

Don't know if here is the right place to post it, but since we were discussing about it, here is her performance from yesterday's Late Show!
I mean, what can I say? Such a class act... Gorgeous performance!

I don't think it was so much a re-release, just that the label wasn't done pushing it around CMA time. Of course, now it really does seem done. I love the album, and "Late To The Party" is great, but I'm not sure if anything can turn the album around at radio at this point.

I think the only chance Kacey has with any song doing well off of this album is if she were to get a Grammy performance slot and perform something other than "Dime Store" and "Biscuits" on the show. Picking up the Country Album award wouldn't hurt either, but I think she'd need to have a sliver of a "Chris Stapleton" moment to see any sort of radio success with the rest of this era.

She should release Late To The Party for sure. I found that one immediate without having that "liberal" slant that most of her songs have, at least as far as country radio is concerned.

I feel like radio has already decided they aren't going to play Kacey no matter what, so I don't really have any hope for anything doing well, no matter what song it is. She doesn't kiss their ass, and in fact even speaks out against radio politics from time to time, so they're not going to give her the time of day no matter how many listeners want to hear her. I'd love to be proven wrong, but I won't hold my breath.

***PLEASE NOTE: I chose to start this thread in the sub-forum rather than the larger Non-Radio Singles forum, since the discussion that's sprouted has still been Country-oriented (and because the song is NOT an official single as yet ;) ). Other staff: Feel free to relocate this thread to the other if that would be better.*** In any case, with the recent spate of discussion that's sprouted in the "Dime Store Cowgirl" thread, I thought it prudent to take a page from Dudley's playbook (so to speak) and move it into its own thread, rather than continuing to drag that one on. :)
ETA: I do have to giggle a bit at this song getting some attention not long after I picked it as the next song from her album to give a run on my own personal chart. I wanted something from Pageant Material to follow-up "Dime Store Cowgirl" with, because I wasn't really content to stop charting songs from her from that album there. This is the song that jumped out at me the strongest - I absolutely love its melody. :) The Brazilian Guy π§π· Yes it was! On a side note, I wasn't expecting that Colbert would in fact be live for this show, which makes her giving a great performance even sweeter.

This is the first Kacey Musgraves song I've heard that I've liked. Love the line "who needs a crowd when you're happy at a party for two". It's a nice laid back song that works well with Kacey's thin vocals.

I vote a HUGE YES!! Haha. If it were only that easy to chose an artist's next single. In all seriousness, this is one of my favorite songs off of Pageant Material, and regardless of radio performance, I would love to see this get released as a single. I can already envision the video (if we get one, and aren't stuck with a live performance video instead).

I thought "Dime Store Cowgirl" was getting a re-release? I doubt that'll change anything though. "Dime Store Cowgirl" was re-released to radio via Play MPE back on October 27. It's original impact date was August 3 and it didn't chart, so by the time October rolled around we all knew that it wasn't gonna do anything. But then the label decided to redeliver the song to radio just before the CMA's, since Kacey had a couple of nominations and had been announced as a performer as well. But radio still didn't give the song any more than a handful of spins, and it failed to crack the top 60 on Billboard. I definitely think that Mercury Nashville should keep releasing singles though. They wouldn't have to funnel a bunch of money into radio promotion if radio refuses to play anything from Kacey (Note: I'm not saying Mercury is incapable of promoting her music; I'm simply saying that singles that don't go anywhere on the charts don't cost a label very much money...because the single doesn't have a chart run that the label needs to financially support with promo). Anyway, as I and others have said, I don't think radio is likely to play Kacey's music for a variety of reasons (she doesn't kiss up to all the radio folks, she's been outspoken about the corrupt nature of radio politics, etc). It sucks that her music can't get out to a lot of casual fans who rely primarily on radio to discover new music, but at the same time, I have a ton of respect for Kacey, for the fact that she doesn't feel like she needs to pander to corporate country radio.

I love this song from an amazing album. And pretty much every song she's released. If "Burning House" managed to do so well, I don't really get why this won't. (But it won't.)

She sounded amazing and looked stunning! I think she looked a lot like Natalie Hemby, by the way.
I would love to see her succeeding at country radio, but I think the line "you're rolling one for two" could play against her in this one.

That's quite nice, I like it much better than Dime Store Cowgirl.
On a superficial note - I'm not familiar with her band, the steel player looks about 14 in that clip

Hmmm, so there's a McD's in my area whose station of choice appears to be Sirius XM The Highway.
Guess what song appears to have turned up on there? This one. :)

Kacey needs to release something that doesn't have a "novelty" feel to it. Pretty much all her singles have felt novelty

Does anyone know what Kacey is up to these days in respects to a new radio single or even a new EP or full length album? I have loved all of her music on both her first two albums. She is so good, and original it kinda sucks radio refuses to play her songs. That said does anyone know when she might send a new single to radio? Oh maybe just give us an album without a lead single?
