Hi everyone, I collect r&b/hip hop promo cd singles. I've always wanted a radio station hook up. Looking at this board it seems that most of you are. Is there anyway someone can hook me up or show me how to get more. I mostly buy them in philly but they don't have everything.

LMAO. Sorry but most people here are still in high school. No one here works for the radio, that I know of.

Didn't know I was a comedian. The Urban side of this board has producer's and radio employees.

For what it's worth, I have a copy of the Incubus "Megalomaniac" promo single that I recieved in the mail because I pre-ordered their latest album. (Yes, I know it's not R&B/hip-hop.)

what are the purpose of them?? Traditionally, they are what is sent to stations so that they can play a song. Now it's done electronically most often.

And typically, they are not to be commercially sold. Which is why if you have one it's rather rare.

is there a difference between promo singles & commercial singles?? Promo's have like 1 track & maybe call out hook thingy while a commercial has 2+... More or less, yeah. Commercial singles offer, naturally, the album version, possibly with a few remixes or whatnot, maybe a bonus track not found on the album. Promo singles can feature a number of things more relevant to a radio station, though. 4 examples: Boomkat, "The Wreckoning" 1. Radio Edit 2. Radio Edit w/ Mystic 3. Album Version Jimmy Eat World, "A Praise Chorus" 1. Radio Edit 2. Album Version Jay-Z, "Excuse Me Miss" 1. Radio Edit 2. Instrumental 3. Call Out Hook Lil' Kim featuring Mr. Cheeks, "The Jump Off" 1. Clean Radio Edit 2. Instrumental 3. Album Version

I've seen promo singles go to a PD or MD's place of residence instead of the radio station.

I've seen promo singles go to a PD or MD's place of residence instead of the radio station. Yeah, I use to be an MD and I never got anything mailed to my residence but I knew some of our djs got stuff sent to them secretely because they were on record mailing lists. My boss would've probably fired me on the spot if she thought I was receiving music at home (She thought my PD was already doing it anyways). She was crazy like that . I still got my share of promos from the station though, lol.
