Panda is the current #1 iTunes says that Format and a bunch of Prince and Lemonade songs are above it in sales. How is that possible? You're cracking me up!

5 pages and it hasn't even been 24 hours.
Anyway, I don't see Formation going to #1, at least not right now. I think sometimes people just assume that every song at #1 on iTunes with a big lead will go to #1 then on the Hot 100. Of course in two weeks if it is still #1 on iTunes and her label take advantage of that it may, but other that I imagine it will start falling soon. Top 10 is still really good for her right now seeing as her last few singles following Drunk In Love missed it (although her release strategies don't help, 7/11 probably would have gotten it had the video been released at the start of the tracking week, and this would have gotten it a few months ago after the video)

I don't see it hitting #1, most people bought it after the football game.

To those who've been wondering about Prince's airplay, this is what his Mediabase airplay from CHR+HAC+AC+Rhythmic+Urban+UAC+Alt+Triple A added up looks like currently (Tuesday-Monday):
PRINCE - When Doves Cry: 41.163 PRINCE AND THE REVOLUTION - Kiss: 34.778 PRINCE - 1999: 34.449 PRINCE - Purple Rain: 30.984 PRINCE - Little Red Corvette: 28.354 PRINCE - Let's Go Crazy: 26.021 PRINCE AND THE REVOLUTION - Raspberry Beret: 25.966 PRINCE - I Wanna Be Your Lover: 23.898 PRINCE - I Would Die 4 U: 17.736 PRINCE & THE N.P.G. - Diamonds And Pearls: 12.846
But most of that falls into last week's tracking week. This is from 2 days before (Sunday-Saturday, so all under last week I believe):
PRINCE - When Doves Cry: 37.043 PRINCE - 1999: 31.826 PRINCE AND THE REVOLUTION - Kiss: 31.688 PRINCE - Purple Rain: 27.542 PRINCE - Little Red Corvette: 25.223 PRINCE AND THE REVOLUTION - Raspberry Beret: 23.484 PRINCE - Let's Go Crazy: 23.307 PRINCE - I Wanna Be Your Lover: 21.261 PRINCE - I Would Die 4 U: 15.86 PRINCE & THE N.P.G. - Diamonds And Pearls: 10.652
This suggests to me that Purple Rain will get 10-15 million at most, unless it's got strong airplay on other minor formats or something.

Why are people talking about "PR" falling to #8 when it's also #40 and has other 'versions' as well because it's on several albums/collections? It's still one of the top overall sellers and is by no means falling fast.

Credit to: www.kworb.net/airadio*** indicates that the song dropped or added a format ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Great update for ITAPII! :) And it looks like Lukas should be getting that #1 spot on Friday Oh, and Drake is still putting up great gains! (And so is PILLOWTALK, for some reason)

I think Panda is going to be #1 again this week, with Purple Rain somewhere between #2-4. In 21/05 chart, fingers crossed Drake will be #1.

Libra and Kurt -- gentle requests to get people back on topic aren't working. These threads remain ridiculous, and the people who have been coming here for years for thoughtful discussion of the charts are being completely edged out. Please take some kind of more severe action to help get this under control. I don't mind if that means there's a "Hot 100 stat discussion" thread and a "Hot 100 shoot-the-shit" thread, as long as there is some way to address this. Thanks in advance.

And if Kworb is the iTunes charts does it combine the versions together or not?

There has been 6 #1 songs so far this year. Just as a simple comparison, this time last year there had been 3, 2014 there had been 4, 2013 there had been 5, 2012 there had been 7, 2011 there had been 7 and in 2010 there had been 5. Hopefully this turnover continues (or speeds up even more)!

Ok thanks. Also I'm not sure how many use iTunes compared to other platforms, but in 2013 AmazonMP3 had around 22% of the digital music share according to geekwire. Google Play I imagine also rivals iTunes with a much likely larger market share than AmazonMP3. So these two platforms should be taken into account along with iTunes. Purple Rain is currently number 1 on both of those charts as of right now. Formation is 9 on Amazon and not available yet on Google play. One Dance is 9 on Google and 34 on Amazon. Purple Rain still has this.

That was considerably higher than I anticipated - as I had no real gauge for its 3.5 days of airplay which also counted. So just based on how well it performed on this week's H100, I feel like PR may just pull off #1 on next week's chart. Even if it doesn't get #1 - it's ultimately only because its sales were split between weeks.

The top 'version' is still the #2 song outside of Lemonade songs. It's combined sales still makes it one of the very top-selling songs. It's not like it has fallen out of the top 20. Also, what we still don't know is whether the YouTube views of some of the live performances will count. These are all categorized under Music and have millions of views (most from the past week): www.youtube.com/watch?v=F8BMm6Jn6oUwww.youtube.com/watch?v=EsRUAoUvP10www.youtube.com/watch?v=qsdR8eycRys

Lozzy, pls come back! When Purple Rain enters the top 10, it will be an almost 32 year gap since it was last in the top 10. I'm going to guess Prince returning would be a record gap. I think Stand By Me holds the record currently. I'm trying to think of songs that returned to the top 10 after a long gap. I know Whitney had the gap of 19 years with IWALY. And I can also think of Bohemian Rhapsody and Monster Mash. Any others?

Another thing to watch for ---- songs in chart history that have hit the top 10 twice
The Twist - Chubby Checker #1 in 1960, #1 again in 1962 Monster Mash - Bobby "Boris" Picket #1 in 1962, #10 in 1973 Stand By Me - Ben E King #4 in 1961, #9 in 1986 Bohemian Rhapsody - Queen #9 in 1976, #2 in 1992 I Will Always Love You - Whitney Houston #1 in 1992, #3 in 2012
Others that hit in different versions
Breaking Up Is Hard To Do - Neil Sedaka #1 in 1962, #8 in 1975 Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me - Elton John (and George Michael w/ Elton John) #2 in 1974, #1 in 1992 We Are The World (#1 in 1985, #2 in 2010) Candle In The Wind - Elton John (#6 1988 --- live original version, #1 1997 - Princess Diana remake) Walk Don't Run - Ventures #2 1960, #8 1964
found this in a prior post -- also added the Ventures song

I've been a hardcore Prince fan since I was 9 (in 1984) and a Hot 100 watcher every week since I was 15 (in 1990). I REEEEAAAAALLLLY hope "Purple Rain" reaches #1 this week. It would help make this past week slightly less horrible. Desiigner and Drake and Beyonce can have many more weeks on top afterward, but I just want this one week.

I think Purple Rain will get #4. Kworb's just updated the prediction: 288k. It's plummeting like crazy. It's selling around the same as Drake now or a little more once you combine all versions. Not sure how accurate Kworb is but it sold almost 200k on Friday/Saturday sales alone and still had a massive lead on Sunday and a large one for most of Monday. Can't see it selling less than 300k this week.
