Any news on a second single? I feel like there should've been at least an announcement last year in December since LSS peaked, like, 2 months ago?

I am sure we will get a single announcement soon but Atlantic has to be careful with their timing. They can't burn through the singles too quickly since Kelly has major promo coming up with The Voice. They want to make sure something is out while she is on that show to help push album sales. You don't want The Voice to start and the album be completely dead with no more singles to push to radio and your budget completely wiped out.

All of us are just anxious to know what the new single is going to be. Medicine or Heat. LOL!

Goddammit now I have to watch The Voice. It's actually a really good show until they get to the live shows--the blind audition/battle/knockouts is a really compelling format and they still get some great talent (I took several seasons off before JHud drew me back in, but I'm guessing it was true for those seasons, as well). Then its all-about-the-coaches structure really exposes itself when it goes live--the super talented people of color singers get eliminated one by one as Adam and Blake's young, white country/pop-rock/singer-songwriter types get top billing, and it hastily wraps up with a bloated finale. Hoping Kelly will shake things up a bit more, but JHud was a phenomenal presence and couldn't get it done, so. I'll mostly just be there for the one-liners.

Makes sense considering those are pretaped, and the coaches can probably relax and flourish a little more. Kelly is special in that she can be just as off-the-cuff live as she can on a prerecording. But yeah, my issue has been, and always will be, the show being a big ego-fest for the coaches. (Which is also what Idol ended up becoming after they realized they couldn’t stay on top forever.) So I’ll watch for the beginning and then wait for Focus to post the fun clips in here. (Love you Focus btw!)

This no news thing is really getting to me. LOL! Is it possible they may not announce the next single until she's actually on The Voice?

This is actually plausible because Marketing is key from here on out with her being a new artist to Atlantic & not making that big of a splash with LSS compared to other anticipated lead singles..

I personally think Atlantic is making the same mistake that RCA continuously did with her single release schedules, which is of course waiting way too long between singles. I wanted at least a four single campaign and at this rate we’ll be lucky to get three before the era has completely fizzled out. I know it’s not ideal, but P!nk was able to launch a second single at the end of the year and things seem to be going just fine with that. I don’t see why Kelly couldn’t have successfully done the same.

And fwiw RCA's problem IMO always seemed to be with the spring. The gap between MKIA and WDKY, for example, was very similar to the time that will have passed between LSS and whatever single #2 is, assuming said single is coming this month. But the gaps between PBP and Invincible, WDKY and Dark Side, and arguably even MLWSWY's peak and IDNHU were too wide.

For what’s it worth, the album is still in the top-60 on iTunes and top 100 on Billboard ten weeks out and she’s maintained quite a bit of visibility during that timeframe with just the one single so I, too, think that this era is far from derailed. It’s obvious Atlantic wants Kelly to win so I’m sure they have a strategy in place to fully continue the MOL promo in 2018.
Don’t forget the Grammys are the last week of January instead of mid-February this year so I wouldn’t be surprised if we get a single announcement around that time.

The issue with AIEW era was not any gap between singles. Instead the issues were 1. Kelly was NOT into it, 2. The second single wasn’t Long Shot, and 3. Her weight made IDNHU a completely ridiculous song to sing.

I was never a fan of "Long Shot" or "I Do Not Hook Up" as single choices from All I Ever Wanted. I would much rather have seen "Ready" and "Don't Let Me Stop You"(or "The Day We Fell Apart") released.

I think its funny that at the time IDNHU seemed like such a huge flop, but we'd all be doing back-flips now if she had a #8 peak on pop radio.

Yes, but that shouldn’t be the case. There’s no reason for it to be IMO. All I’m saying is P!nk’s fans are being treated to her second hit single and video, with no gap in between, while we don’t even know what the next single is. Maybe this strategy pans out and I’m proven wrong, but I just don’t think gaps like this ever help the situation.

Does anybody have a good DL/private link of Kelly doing Whole Lotta Woman on Fallon? Seems like they decided to take her best television performance in a decade offline.

Yeah, but that pop radio peak really belies its impact (or lack thereof). It came and went, gets virtually no recurrent play, is generally forgotten, etc. I'd bet that when it's all said and done, Love So Soft will be more remembered/played than I Do Not Hook Up, in spite of its lower peaks on CHR and the Hot 100. I remember being behind the choice at the time but it was just a huge miss and really shouldn't have even been on the album--it wasn't a cool song or sentiment, didn't work with Kelly's image at the time, and was a less interesting choice than about half a dozen other songs on AIEW. Oh well!

Long Shot would be a better choice. I like IDNHU, but it's definitely one of Kelly most forgettable songs.

What are the songs about RCA on MOL? I'd say it's safe to say these are about RCA/Clive: Medicine Didn't I I Don't Think About You "Cruel" and "Don't You Pretend" feel less relevant to RCA, but who knows. Kelly said she wrote "Would You Call That Love" after she heard a few couple friends of hers broke up and someone said they never loved the other person, and she found that to be both an odd and shitty thing to say.

AIEW is essentially an anthology of Pop from 2009. They basically had her record a song in every style on the charts at that time and you can almost track them to their inspiration 1:1. It's her "anything you can do I can do better" album and even its lowest points have redeeming qualities.

Hoping they announce the next single and the tour as “The Voice” promo starts gearing up. Can’t wait this out much longer.
