Yeah, I was referring to main categories. That said, while I do agree that she will need either a bona fide hit or another viral moment to get in those (The Voice provides ample opportunity for the latter, hopefully). I actually disagree WRT to pop album and/or performance - as ampersand pointed out, PBP (the album) and Heartbeat Song received their nominations before the title track was even released as a single. (How quickly we forget everyone's befuddlement over Heartbeat Song! lol) Though the live version is obviously what should have been submitted, it also had to be the version submitted since the album's previous nomination rendered the original version ineligible. tbh the PBP album nomination was when I first started realizing the respect that Kelly now holds amongst her pop peers. If MOL doesn't get at least a pop album nom I will declare it an upset. Main categories are trickier b/c even if you overcome the vote hurdle, you could still be excluded by a committee that picks the final nominees in those categories based on optics and politics. (Probably every pop album nominee had more AOTY votes than Lorde, for example.) It's still far too early to gauge who all the competition is across genres, though. Cardi's a formidable threat based on her label backing and star power, but lack of a true crossover hit on radio might do her in. bigb0882 the lack of a pop song category has come up a few times in the Grammy thread, and the conclusion most seemed to agree on is that for whatever reason, the Grammys seem to see pop song and SOTY as 'redundant' and/or believe pop songs tend to have a bigger advantage in SOTY than other genres do. Until the early '90s, pop didn't have a pop album category either. So it's kind of weird, on the one hand there's this huge problem with lack of recognition for certain genres in the main field, but pop has always been the most shafted genre when it comes to opportunities for peer recognition. I have no idea why I'm just now realizing this as I type it, but the latter may be the cause of the former.

Y'all we need a hit before we can start forecasting any Grammy nominations/wins/competition. She's obviously a pop panel favorite but I don't think PBP (album) would have received that nomination at all if she didn't have that amazing viral moment with PBP (single). Didn’t PxP (album) and HBS receive their nominations before her Idol performance? Oh yeah, I was thinking the timing was the same as MOL. Still, if nothing hits this year, I wouldn't expect anything for next year's Grammy's. It'd just be too out of sight/mind, even with The Voice, as that wraps in May. ...unless it's a slow year for pop.

I want to know what the hell is wrong with the GP that they don't recognize MOL for the masterpiece that it is. I mean the album.

I'm just going to start by hoping for ONE hit single from any damn song on the album. I'll even take it as a PBP type hit where it goes viral and sells a lot, but isn't a huge radio hit. This album is TOO good to just drop off the face of the earth. I really think/hope 'The Voice' will turn things around.

Methinks she will fare quite well at next year’s GRAMMYs. She’s in with the right industry crowd, is on a label that clearly has power at the show (see: several of this year’s major nominees), has critical and commercial acclaim in her corner, made an incredibly strong album, and has enjoyed a plethora of success at the GRAMMYs before. A big hit at radio isn’t always needed to snag some major nominations. Evidence: Lorde’s Melodrama.
At the very least, I think she’ll score Pop Vocal Album and Pop Solo Vocal nods. At the greatest extent, I truly don’t think AOTY is out of the question at all. It just depends on how Pink fares, too. I don’t think this year’s big pop girl (Taylor) will be as big of a threat as she usually is, since her current era is extremely...weird.

Looks like NBC is working with Youtube artists to get the word out about Kelly being The Voice's new coach - so many covers of "Medicine."

omg this is awesome - super bowl commerical I'm sorry, but before the children appear next to Kelly she looks like she's on her way to the funeral of her sugar daddy, who left her everything in his will Too bad they traumatized her with From Justin To Kelly.. her comedic acting skills are awesome speaking of which - here you can watch a clip of her on The Star

Anyone know if she's going to tour with this album? I really enjoyed her Stronger and Piece by Piece tours.

She hasn't said when exactly, but based off her comments about The Voice schedule I'm guessing it will be after the show, so probably a summer tour.
