I know this was for last week's chart, but Drake just returned for a second time to #1 on the airplay chart. Is this the first time that's happened? Looking at the Hot 100 Airplay number one singles list on Wikipedia, it's the first time a song has three separate runs at #1 since the list's inception in October 1984. Can't Stop The Feeling could do it too if it dethrones One Dance next week, but since it's falling faster than One Dance it's not very possible. And about ITAPII returning at #10; Let It Go and Close fell hard, Work From Home fell normally when ITAPII lost a small amount of spins while Treat You Better and Me Too didn't gain enough spins to overtake it so that's how. Thanks for clarifying all that lol! You must have access to certain information some of us don't!

All of the things mentioned in that post about ITAPII can be found by just looking at the Mediabase chart. The only difference is ITAPII already went recurrent on Mediabase.

I am pleasantly surprised. It was actually instantly my favorite song on her album by far. I did not expect it to become a hit single. Frankly this all makes the (relatively) poor performance of BBHMM last year more surprising, considering how effortless her top tens have been this year. Work really set things up well for Rihanna this year while last time FourFiveSeconds while a top 5 hit didn't have that much impact. BBMM build up was also weird I'm surprised Needed Me is doing this well, I really thought Kiss It Better would be the bigger hit I went to her gig earlier this month and both songs were huge fan faves but I guess Kiss It Better is a bit too edgy to become a proper hit on all platforms. Her fans love it.

We've been hearing that about Drake's video for a long time now.
kworb estimates "CT" leading "OD" by 60k in sales, but it will still be behind in streaming and airplay.

I'd prefer "Cheap Thrills" get #1 this week and then Drake release the "OD" video tomorrow to come back for a week at #1.

I'm so puzzled why lately it seems people so frequently want #1s to last forever, or for songs to stay on the charts forever and have crazy long runs. It is like the most boring thing in the world to hope for. I feel like any song lasting more than 4 weeks at #1 is a bit of a travesty -- I would much prefer a more vibrant, fluctuating chart!

How do we know that, though? All we have is teasing about it coming "soon," and that was quite a while ago.

Having been on this board for a decade, the most common thing I would hear were people frustrated with the slowness of the charts and wanting more movement and turnover. The past few months or so have been a strange turn where more people are wanting stasis. I am not puzzled by people not thinking like me. I am puzzled at a shift I have noticed. It seems as though the most interesingt stat for most people has switched from peak positions to more interest in number of weeks (overall, in top ten, at #1, etc.). I am wondering why that shift in interest has occurred.

I think when people like a song/artist they root for it to hang around, break records, etc. When people dislike a song/artist, they root for turnover mainly just to get the 'junk' cleared out.

It's a shame the junk songs (6 of the top 10 right now) won't go away. I like fast turnover. 16 to 20 weeks in the Top 40 is enough. 26 weeks should be Max on the chart. Then send them recurrent, and no reentries.

Of course if a song is a big hit, it doesn't stop being a hit after 20 weeks. Mostly it's a case of different people catching up with the song in different times. One might love Cheap Thrills now, someone else is going to start loving it in two weeks.

Beyoncé's Sorry is doing well. Imagine if she actually promoted it, she could have another top 10 hit.
Cheap Thrills is definitely going #1. The snapchat filter and all the promo they're doing right now is really smart.

Perhaps the slow nature of the charts lately makes the idea of breaking a record the only interesting thing going on.

Like last year, all the top songs were great, so I kinda wanted them to last a long time. This year, the #1 songs are not so impressive and all the good songs failed to reach #1. So this year, I would much rather prefer shorter running #1s. I had no problem with See You Again's 12 weeks or even UF's 14 weeks, but I am very pissed at Work's 9 weeks or One Dance's 10 weeks. But if a song like ITAPII or DLMD reaches #1, I would wish they do stay for a long time. Idk, that's just my opinion.

My opinion on a song greatly affects how I view how long it reigns the chart for. I don't dislike Work or One Dance (especially not One Dance, I quite like it) but their 9 and 10 week reigns annoy me. On the other hand, Uptown Funk's 14 weeks at #1 last year was among the greatest things to ever happen on the Hot 100 for me.

The occasional lengthy number one is cool but it gets dull when the average is 5-6 weeks. It's also boring when the same songs being played in September were the same ones being played in May. It was always more exciting to me when more songs and artists had a shot at number one, as opposed to now when a song reaches the top you know it's likely going to be there for awhile and no other song in the top ten has a chance.
