Out of curiosity, what is the highest a country song with no/little CHR crossover can expect to peak? Do they ever go top ten?

I love Drake but I'm happy this is the week "One Dance" will likely fall. Time for an official cue for the public & media to move on to "Controlla" and "Too Good."

moore746- Dixie Chicks' "Long Time Gone" and "Not Ready to Make Nice" come to mind (the latter wasn't a big country hit, though, peaking at No. 36 in country airplay). Not sure of any others.

^Since December 1998 (when country and other formats were added to the Hot 100 mix), I believe Top 20 for the biggest country-only hits has happened. I'd be surprised if one got to top 10 on the strength of country airplay alone.

I remember asking that same question last year/earlier this year when a song got really close. I'll see if I can find the answer that I got.

I know this was for last week's chart, but Drake just returned for a second time to #1 on the airplay chart. Is this the first time that's happened?

Out of curiosity, what is the highest a country song with no/little CHR crossover can expect to peak? Do they ever go top ten? I should clarify: Airplay peak, not overall BB Hot 100 peak. Last year, "I See You" by Luke Bryan got to #11 or #12 on the Mediabase updates, but only peaked at #13 on Billbaord's Radio Songs chart. That might not be the highest a country song has gotten on Airplay without crossover airplay, but it's the highest I've ever seen one go.

I'm almost positive this is the week Drake releases the One Dance video. Just to get that 11 plus weeks at number one.

I know this was for last week's chart, but Drake just returned for a second time to #1 on the airplay chart. Is this the first time that's happened? Looking at the Hot 100 Airplay number one singles list on Wikipedia, it's the first time a song has three separate runs at #1 since the list's inception in October 1984. Can't Stop The Feeling could do it too if it dethrones One Dance next week, but since it's falling faster than One Dance it's not very possible. And about ITAPII returning at #10; Let It Go and Close fell hard, Work From Home fell normally when ITAPII lost a small amount of spins while Treat You Better and Me Too didn't gain enough spins to overtake it so that's how.

I'm 99% sure I've seen country songs at #9 and #10 on the airplay chart before. Not sure about the actual Radio Songs chart on Billboard, but I've seen it happen on the airplay updates people post on here. I can't remember what song(s) or when, but it would've been from 2010 onwards. I love Drake but I'm happy this is the week "One Dance" will likely fall. Time for an official cue for the public & media to move on to "Controlla" and "Too Good." I honestly expect them to be pretty massive too. Both are top 20 without actual promo. I read Controlla was originally going to be released instead of One Dance, it probably would've been #1 under those circumstances! Quite a lot of Drake songs do well without being singles but then never really get more promotion (i.e. radio adds, a music video) and I feel they could've done so much better. So I really have no idea how well they will do. Also with these songs they've got the dilemma about which to do first.

Also with these songs they've got the dilemma about which to do first. Not really, because they're singles at different formats. Urban will likely give some spins to "Too Good" in addition to "Controlla" if it gets really big, and Pop is always late to the party so I half expect them to start playing "Controlla" in October. If anyone can carve out two homes in the top 5 of the Hot 100, it's Drake right now.

So every time the One Dance video comes up, I wonder if it's possible that they just didn't like the final product and decided the song was successful enough without it. Frankly if I was the label at this point I would be looking at investing in "Controlla" to keep the long-term momentum of the album going. This is starting to feel like when everyone was talking about how Adele was on the verge of an all-out marketing push for "When We Were Young" and it just never happened.
Speaking of Adele -- I love that SML actually seems to be picking up speed now that it's in the top ten. It would be nice if she performed it live somewhere but, much like with WWWY, I think she is not all that interested in a heavy promotional push.

I don't think we'll see Adele hustling to make the song bigger, but I wouldn't be surprised if she performs it on the VMA's, especially since she's now (I think?) on the North American leg of her tour.

Ye she is on the American leg of her tour and she has a break from August 17th-September 6th. The VMAs are on August 28th so I'd think it highly likely that Adele will perform.

Needed Me reminds me of The Hills, so surprising I am pleasantly surprised. It was actually instantly my favorite song on her album by far. I did not expect it to become a hit single. Frankly this all makes the (relatively) poor performance of BBHMM last year more surprising, considering how effortless her top tens have been this year.

Work really set things up well for Rihanna this year while last time FourFiveSeconds while a top 5 hit didn't have that much impact. BBMM build up was also weird I'm surprised Needed Me is doing this well, I really thought Kiss It Better would be the bigger hit
