The song about a comeback failed to be their comeback...And in the meantime we are all still waiting for that album...

Did this go recurrent or is it still hanging in there? In the predictions thread I noticed that there was indication it would be leaving, but the updates on kworb suggest that the song hasn't collapsed by any means, which makes sense because I imagine that the label is still working this one given that it's not even 2 months old yet. It hasn't been selling the best or making promising gains by any means, but man, I love this and wish it would take off for them so we can get album #3 soon.

It was supposed to go recurrent on Billboard last night as it was The Band Perry third week in a row of losing its bullet, so by the rules it was supposed to leave but since the label is still promoting it, it'll stick around, for now (Note: I sure this song won't test well as it doesn't sound like something that would test all that well).

Of course it won't. Nothing with female-led vocals ever tests "well." But thanks for the information/update!

I don't see this getting any higher at radio. We'll see though. I kind of wish that they would send out a different single that has nothing to do with their thoughts of how they are perceived in the industry, and see how that does.

I think this song can get a little higher but I agree with you, this one isn't performing too well at radio. It should see a nice update tomorrow since it finally reached the Mediabase top 40 last Sunday (countdown spins today). It's gained exactly zero audience on MB the past three weeks... Wouldn't it be ironic if this peaked where "Live Forever" did?

I finally heard this on CT 40 yesterday and while I do like it, country radio simply isn't going to touch this, and I wouldn't be surprised if it goes recurrent at Mediabase by the end of this month.

This song has gained 8 net spins over the past four weeks; 500k in audience gained the past +3 weeks; 45 spins lost the past two days...
This song is showing the signs of stalling. Even "Live Forever" had 800 more spins and 6.0 million more in audience at the 60 day mark in Mediabase's top 50 than "Comeback Kid" (also at the 60 day mark). Granted, "Live Forever" had a little better start out of the gate but that comparison is alarming.

Those are really anemic numbers across the board, so it's no surprise that their run on CT40 will consist of a whopping two weeks with the latest singles from Blake, Jon Pardi and Thomas Rhett set to sajl by this single by Friday or Saturday.
Sad to see this fine group lose their way so abruptly following their superb 'Pioneer' CD in 2013.

Can't believe this does not have a music video yet... are they even working on that? They performed it on Ellen today and the comments show it's not getting much love. Why the late promo and why not bother even shooting a video? Is UMG giving up on it already?
I believe they're out of the Top 40 now, this flopped harder than LF. Don't know what the hell they and the label were thinking releasing something like this, it's not the worst they've done but c'mon definitely not lead single and certainly not comeback single worthy.
It's a shame but I feel like they're losing all relevance they have left and I can see them losing the Interscope/UMG contract soon if they don't recover. I think they should have just gone through with the yellow/pop phase and release the album, promote it to both country and pop under Interscope/UMG and see what happens, if it failed they could start again with a new era in a couple years. The sudden change of image, scrapping the album + this minimalist basic song just alienated their fanbase once again and kinda ruined what was left of their credibility. Live Forever was not the end, ironically I think the song in which they say it's not the end is actually the beginning of the end for TBP.

Why has Neil quit playing instruments on their live performances to become only a backing vocalist?
On a positive note, I like that they ditched the all-white look they were going for in the past couple of months. It looked like they worked in a hospital or something lol

This lost 32 spins and 300k in audience in today's Mediabase update. Westwood One (W1MC) contributed a 3 spins loss over the past seven days but this song is doing terribly right now. It's gained just 30 net spins over the past six weeks...
I was talking to someone at WYRK and they've always been early to support The Band Perry's singles (PD loves them) but he told me they're not totally enthusiastic about this song.

There is just no flow to this one.
It's like they're trying to prove to everybody that they are entitled to pop stylings in their songs, while still keeping country aspects in order to appease those who obviously weren't happy with "Live Forever."
The whole structure of the song is screwed up. No wonder it's peaking below LF.
I hope these guys have a serious reality check and get back to the music that we've all come to love from them. If they don't want to make that type of music anymore, then fine. Don't give us this one foot in, one foot out nonsense.

Yeah this song is definitely struggling and badly. I have done a collective analysis on all the songs below the Top 30 now that were in the MB Top 50 a month ago (Parmalee to Josh Turner essentially) and here is what I got from the spins results
Parmalee +76 spins Eli Young Band -89 spins (they are probably done) Darius Rucker +169 spins Easton Corbin -9 spins The Band Perry +13 spins Craig Campbell +317 spins Trent Harmon +220 spins Brantley Gilbert +448 spins Runaway June +156 spins LANco +170 spins Josh Turner +483 spins
Eli Young Band looks about done. Easton Corbin and The Band Perry are essentially flat in the water. Parmalee is hanging in there. Darius Rucker, Runaway June and LANco look to be doing ok and things look encouraging for Craig Campbell, Brantley Gilbert and Josh Turner especially.
My point being The Band Perry is looking like they are stalling out and with the Little Big Town debut and Jon Pardi making the pass The Band Perry looks to be kicked out of the MB Top 40, which looks to be the final nail in the coffin for "Comeback Kid".

Great analysis raylatch98. Some surprising numbers there. Glad Craig and Josh are right up there!

"Comeback Kid" is done. It lost 70 spins and 226k in audience today -- losses of 120 spins and 700k in audience this week. Peak on Mediabase was #39.
This was too polarizing and to put it bluntly, a terrible choice for their first UMG promoted single. Not surprised at all this flamed out.

So do TBP come back with something that's super similar to their early stuff or do they continue with this new sound, but just a better song?
Either way I wonder if the label is going to get something out ASAP.

Either way I wonder if the label is going to get something out ASAP. I don't think the label will get something out asap. UMG has a lot of songs that they are working at radio the songs from Darius Rucker, Luke Bryan, Keith Urban, Little Big Town, Lauren Alain, Chris Stapleton, Josh Turner, Eric Paslay (although his song is probably gonna be let go of real soon) Brothers Osborne, Jon Pardi and real soon Dierks Bentley, Billy Currington Sam Hunt, Kip Moore and possibly Lady Antebellum (they will be either a November release or early January and February release). There's a lot the label is doing so The Band Perry might be put on the backburner like I expect Gary Allan, Mickey Guyton, Easton Corbin and Eric Paslay to be as well this Winter and probably Spring as well!

They completely botched what should have been their peak or prime years. I just don't see them ever getting back to their previous popularity. I could see them maybe going the Big & Rich route and score a couple of non hyped hits that are extremely radio friendly, but they have zero chance of being stars at this point.

I'm not surprised at all that this is beginning its freefall. It actually hung around a bit longer than I thought it would. I think it'd be in their best interest to wait until the first quarter of next year, and then try sending a new single out to radio, that has nothing to do with their situation. Hopefully they got it out of their system with this one.
I agree - they were poised to become the next massive country band, and that has completely fallen apart. I do think they will manage to score the occasional hit from time to time, but they could have had a much bigger career than that.
