Controlla and Too Good were released to separate formats. Also, artist can and have done it in the past (Rihanna, Beyoncé, Lady Gaga, Nicki Minaj, Katy Perry, Taylor Swift, etc.) It's just really difficult for it to work, though. For example, Beyoncé and Rihanna have more examples of multiple single releases failing than doing well.

Eh, sorta. Super Bass and Starships, sure, but the rest of her pop only singles never fared that well. Pound the Alarm is probably the next most successful, but was more of a mediocre hit than anything. Va Va Boom and The Night Is Still Young were flash in the pan hits that climbed fast, brick walled, then died out just as quickly. Her urban only singles seem to fair much better: Beez in the Trap, Only, Feeling Myself, etc.

Yea I was referring to that she has never really suffered and they have been selling her album just fine.

I think that the point in releasing singles in general is to keep things afloat and artist's name in people's mind that they come to see the tour and consume the music. Basically it doesn't matter if the single peaks at #23 or #38

Nicki has chosen to cater her both core audiences at the same time with two different songs

Right. By their nature format-specific singles aren't going to peak high, and the point is to cater to specific audiences.

...yeah. Firstly, I was referring to each specific format's chart, not the Hot 100. And secondly, Anaconda was released to all formats and wasn't a dual release.

Prediction for For Free?

Not sure how many more streams the album may be able to give it, but I think it's safe to say it won't go higher than #13. I think it'll be in the 13-15 range seeing as Heathens has a good chance to move past it.

Me Too has consistently been a great seller. Top 10/5 on iTunes for quite a while. Streaming and airplay are what lacked, not the sales.

the bolded is exactly why I think One Dance still has a shot at returning to #1 if the video is released soon and gets a lot of views (no pun intended). The point difference between CT and OD isn't even that big. Think of how Wrecking Ball returned to #1 the week that Steve Kardynal parody video came out.

In all seriousness, though, I don't think the video is ever coming. It likely got scraped awhile back.
