In Europe we've used only "dance" to describe all types of EDM music for decades now. Although in the US it was "electronica" before, along with "techno" (which was incorrect since this is a sub-genre).

I'm not saying the album died, obviously, but "Send My Love" has taken some time to impact, after WWWY underperformed. It's not because Adele's flopping of course, that's silly, but for these monster albums it seems like there hasn't been much of a plan in place after the initial burst. The roll-out for "Hello" was brilliant...and while of course the first single was going to be the biggest, it seems like they just didn't care as much after that. It seems like Adele should be having a singles run like Taylor Swift or Katy Perry. But they're selling albums, so who really cares about running multiple number one singles up the charts? Only us...

Idk it's looking like the next number one might be Closer. Number one sales and Spotify. And if the airplay catches up, I could see it.

Rooting for Closer to be the next #1
As for Adele, I wish 25 also had 3 1#s like 21 but then again Hello's success was probably enough, she's currently on a sold out tour so the album already did its job. To say it didn't have big impact is silly, sure not as big as 21 but it still had impact. And people didn't buy 25 just because they like 21, they like Adele's music. And you know what I think the album's amount of success is just enough to cement Adele's status but not to the point of over saturation

Adele isn't one of these pop stars who have a new album cycle every 2 years. She's essentially said it will be 5 years between albums, so why rush the album cycle of singles? Spread it out. Let it breathe. Not pushing WWWY ended up probably be wise on some level, as well as the relatively slow and subtle onset of SML.
I don't think this is a label not wanting to promote singles - it's a label that has already sold massive amounts of the album in a very short amount of time. And it's also a label that knows that if they burn through them too fast and heavy, they won't have anything else from Adele for years. I won't be surprised to see decent gaps between future 25 singles and having the era last through Q4 of next year.

whoever invented the term EDM is a total idiot. I'm guessing it was introduced by the EDC festivals when the underground rave scene died in the early turn of the century. "Techno" will always and forever be the blanket form of dance music. It was always "do you listen to techno?" and that could mean anything.
yes, it's also a sub-genre, but it's in the same sense that the Pop songs chart holds many different genres as well. A pure pop song like Call Me Maybe, and then a Drake song also charting on this chart.
whenever someone says EDM I just have to laugh cuz it sounds so stupid. Guess i'm oldskool.

EDM is the mother category made up of all types of dance music produced with electronic instruments and/or technology. House, Techno, Garage, Drum & Bass, Dubstep, Ambient, Electro, Trap.... the list goes on and on... are all sub categories of EDM, and many of these categories have subcategories of their own. ListSo, by definition, the notion that techno is synonymous with EDM is flawed. Not sure why "EDM" or the theoretical person who named it is idiotic?

techno = electronic music
simple as that.
I remember in the early 2000's when DJ's started mixing the latest pop song into their set and everyone being utterly appalled. It took everything that made the underground techno scene special and made it mainstream for the masses. Now you've got kids screaming "look at me, i'm watching Avicii spin "Wake Me Up" at a rave!" haha. Stupid kids. They'll never know what was truly cool.
And Into the Groove is a pop song.

You're welcome to your overly generalized opinion on this, and you are not the only one to use "techno" in a very general way. However, the term "techno" was invented to describe a very specific type of electronic music with it's own set of characteristics that differ from House, for example. Both are sub categories of electronic dance music. Feel free to look it up. For you to throw around words like "idiot" and "stupid" while you yourself are generalizing on the pedestal of "this is this, simple as that" as if you are well educated on the topic... well, says a lot about you.

Techno is not the same as EDM. They're both sub-sections of Dance music and Electronic music yes, but they are absolutely not the same thing. Just like Rave and Trance music isn't the same as what's considered EDM.

Closer is gaining on Cold Water on YouTube. Won't be long before it passes it, and it's already ahead on Spotify and iTunes. The airplay gap is still pretty large, but Closer is coming. It looks like Closer might actually block Cold Water from number one. Did not see that coming! Pretty awesome to see, actually.
Also, it'll be great to see either reach number one just to break the curse of EDM getting stuck in the 3-5 range.

As EDM stands for Eletronic Dance Music, isn't a little redundant to say EDM/Dance? Honest question, not trying to be snarky. No, because there is dance music that isn't EDM. EDM is the main form of dance music right now in terms of popularity, but saying "EDM/Dance" is a way to highlight the main form but also leaving room for other types of dance music. What type of dance music isn't EDM?

EDM is the main form of dance music right now in terms of popularity, but saying "EDM/Dance" is a way to highlight the main form but also leaving room for other types of dance music. What type of dance music isn't EDM? Any dance music made without using electronic instruments. Part of the confusion is that "EDM" as a term didn't really come around until more recently. So, some "dance" songs that might now fall under "EDM" weren't called that, say, 20 years ago. So for people who have been following music for a few decades now, EDM is really more of a new term and also something that fits newer dance music. To younger people who have known EDM since they began following music, it's just a normal term for dance music.
