What are some number 1 songs you hate that blocked a song you love from reaching number 1.
Here is a good example, happened this year.
Work blocked 7 Years from number 1 for I think 3 weeks. Work is HORRIBLE while 7 Years is AMAZING. Panda blocked 7 for a week too. 7 Years deserved number 1.
What about you guys?
I know people are going to mention "Candy Shop blocking Boulevard of Broken Dreams for 5 weeks" sorry but I prefer CS.
Anyways lets here your opinions.

London Bridge blocked Crazy (so did Promiscuous but I love that song)
Work blocking 7 Years too (I don't love 7 Years especially now after overplay but it's infinitely better than Work for sure)
Not really anything else I can think of, since I don't really hate that many songs that were #1 (don't think Laffy Taffy or Single Ladies blocked anything from #1, thankfully)
I could probably think of more instances of songs I love blocking songs I hate lol (I just might create that thread in the future)

Love Yourself blocking Stressed Out Uptown Funk blocking Sugar Whistle blocking Lights (I don't really hate Whistle but the latter would have been an infinitely better #1) Down blocking Party in the U.S.A. (see Whistle/Lights) Jump (Kris Kross) blocking Under the Bridge (see Whistle/Lights)
Honorable mention to Work It, 10 weeks at #2 behind Lose Yourself (which is okay but overstayed its run at the top) :'(

Thank you for this thread! Obviously Candy Shop blocking Boulevard of Broken Dreams, also Irreplaceable blocking This Ain't a Scene (It's an Arms Race), One More Night blocking Gangnam Style, Blurred Lines blocking Get Lucky and Blank Space blocking Take Me to Church.

All-4-One's "I Swear" blocking BOTH Madonna's "I'll Remember" and Janet's "Anytime Anyplace" from claiming the number 1 spot on the Hot 100 back in the Summer of '94. Still pissed about that one!

One More Night blocking Gangnam Style and Blurred Lines blocking Get Lucky were the first two that came to mind.
I don't hate OMN but I don't like it.
And I actually like Blurred Lines (yeah I know shut up) but Get Lucky deserved a piece of that pie.

Gwen Stefani The Sweet Escape should have been #1.I forget what song kept it from #1. Dont Matter by Akon which I love. It was only for 1 week though. So Im not too mad at it blocking it. Since Dont Matter is one of my favorite number 1s ever.

Lonestar's Amazed (because it was the pop version) blocking Faith Hill's Breathe from the top. That would hve been the first time two country acts had back to back #1s on the Hot 100 since Dolly Parton's 9 To 5 was tops, followed by Eddie Rabbitt's I Love A Rainy Night. Parton would return to the top for another week in 1981.

Amazed was number 1 before Maria Maria. Breathe was number 2 on April 22, 29, May 20, 27, and June 17. The 1st 4 weeks being blocked by Maria Maria, the last week by Try Again. Lonestars Amazed was number 1 on March 4 and 11. Even says so on Breathe wiki the songs that blocked it.

The only thing I do know is that she had the biggest song of the year on the Hot 100.

Snow's "Informer" blocking Dr. Dre's "Nuthin' But a 'G' Thang" featuring Snoop Dogg. I wouldn't say I hate "Informer" as I only find it really mediocre (though as far as songs from white rappers go, it's far better than the crap Vanilla Ice puts out, that's for sure), but when it blocks one of the great rap classics of the 1990s, it really suffers in comparison.

Oh yeah honorable mentions to the following:
Blank Space blocking Take Me To Church (I don't hate Blank Space but I do think it overstayed its welcome at #1 and was overrated on this forum, and obviously the fact that it blocked TMTC didn't help its case)
Call Me Maybe blocking Payphone (again, I actually really liked CMM at one point but I was so frustrated at Payphone not even getting one week at #1 when it felt so huge and being a Canadian where CMM was #1 here months earlier, it felt like by late July CMM had overstayed its welcome at #1)

I have another one
Uptown Funk blocking Thinking Out Loud (I don't hate Uptown Funk anymore, but I hated it so much when after it blocked Thinking Out Loud).

Surprised that no one has mentioned Rude blocking Stay With Me yet. Considering everyone I know here loves Stay With Me and hates Rude. I love Rude a lot too.

OH I remembered another one:
I Kissed A Girl blocked Forever (Disturbia did too but I like that one a lot). Ugh. I don't hate IKAG as much as I once did, it grew on me slightly, but I still really don't like the song and am frustrated that it blocked one of my favorite Chris Brown songs

Obviously Candy Shop blocking Boulevard of Broken Dreams This, I agree with. Additionally, there were also other good songs that "Candy Shop" blocked which are Kelly Clarkson's "Since U Been Gone" and The Game's "Hate It or Love It" featuring 50 Cent (the rapper who blocked him), the latter of which was also blocked by another bad #1 song which is "Hollaback Girl".

Candy Shops whole 9 weeks of charting blocked a song, as the songs number 2 behind it never reached number 1. Meanwhile One Dance this year, 10 weeks at number 1, did NOT block 1 single song from number 1 cause the songs at number 2 during its run were Panda and Cant Stop The Feeling, which both ended up hitting number 1.

I don't hate Right Round (used to like it a lot actually) but will never live down the fact that it blocked Dead & Gone, which was probably my favorite song that year :( (not to mention it would've given T.I. his third consecutive #1 from the same album)

Call Me Maybe blocking Wide Awake Blank Space blocking Take Me To Church (I like both but TMTC more) One More Night (I loathe this song) blocking Gangnam Style Hello (I do love this song btw) blocking Hotline Bling (deserved at least one week at #1)

- "Heartless" by Kanye West (#2) {Great} was blocked by "Crack A Bottle" by Eminem (#1) {Alright} this. I like CAB but it's probably one of the most forgettable #1's of the century. Meanwhile Heartless definitely felt like a #1 at the time. It was just poorly timed :(

Looks like Call Me Maybe blocked a lot of songs from #1 (Payphone, Wide Awake, Lights).
A similar situation happened in 2015 where a lot of songs got stuck at #2 behind a monster hit: Blank Space blocking Take Me To Church Uptown Funk blocking Thinking Out Loud and Sugar See You Again blocking Trap Queen
