Fancy blocking Problem. I disliked Fancy back then (and still do) and loved Problem (which I only think is pretty good now). >:(

Anyway, I'm surprised there has been no mention of "Bump Bump Bump"/"Beautiful" or "Timber"/"Counting Stars" yet. I was going to include Bump, Bump, Bump & Beautiful but left it out because I didn't really have strong feelings toward either song, but I would have preferred Beautiful over BBB as a #1 for sure. Also, didn't realize Timber was the one that blocked Counting Stars. Yuck. |

I remember being very disappointed when "Lights" missed it's only chance at #1 against "Whistle", and yet, I heard "Lights" on the radio way more than I ever did with "Whistle"  Edit: Now this is in the right thread  |

Jennifer Lopez' "Ain't It Funny" blocking Linkin Park's "In the End". I don't hate it per se, but considering the former is largely forgotten while the latter remains as one of the most iconic songs of the '00s, you can see the issue. Funny thing, ITE placed higher than AIF on the 2002 year end charts.

Mariah's Shake It Off deserved a no.1. Gold Digger is just okay. I also think Loverboy is better than Bootylicious. Survivor deserved the no.1 but Janet was too big.
Gangnam Style is miles better than One More Night.
Apologize is miles better than Kiss Kiss.
What blocked Complicated, Since U Been Gone and You Belong With Me? 3 of the most memorable 2000s hits..

While I don't really hate Blank Space, I find it very overrated and am upset that it blocked TMTC which was one of my favorite songs last year

I am absolutely ok with Chris Brown songs being blocked from No. 1, especially if it's Rihanna blocking him!!!
The ones for me:
- This is kind of old, but REO Speedwagon's Can't Fight This Feeling blocking Material Girl (I really like both, but I like the latter even more)
- Don't Matter and The Sweet Escape (same scenario as above)
- All For You and Survivor
- Tik Tok and ESOM / Bad Romance
- Lose Yourself and Work It (there are a lot of Eminem songs I like, but this, surprisingly, is not one of them)
I'm sure there's a lot more, I just can't think of them all now.

Here's one: I wasn't exactly thrilled that of the 12 weeks that Shake It Off had at #1 on the Sirius XM Hits 1 Weekend Countdown, three of them had Don't by Ed Sheeran at #2 behind it. Shake It Off was the first of three songs so far (the other two being Shut Up and Dance and Hello) to make 12 weeks at #1, and I've softened on Shake It Off but Don't is definitely better.
I know that's not a Hot 100 example, but I wanted to mention it. On the bright side, at least it also blocked Animals by Maroon 5 from hitting #1 there.

Sorry for double post but here's one I just discovered:
Crazy by Gnarles Barkley being blocked by f**king London Bridge. The latter is one of the ugliest songs I've ever heard, while the former is so much fun.
There was also Hollaback Girl blocking not only Hate It Or Love It by The Game featuring 50 Cent, which I really liked, but Oh by Ciara featuring Ludacris, which is pretty dumb but I find it enjoyable.
And while not an old one by any stretch, while Closer has been growing on me I really hope Heathens can take #1 from it eventually.

Lady Gaga's "Born This Way" blocking Cee Lo's "F*ck You". I don't exactly hate BTW, but it has soured on me a LOT since 2011, to the point where I'd probably call it my least favorite single of hers. Meanwhile, there's F*ck You, which is one of my favorite hits of the decade.
Also, there's Prince's "Purple Rain" being blocked by Wham's "Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go". Just... What were you thinking, America?

Here is another one that everyone will disagree with me I am certain.
Elton John - Candle In The Wind - blocked Usher - You Make Me Wanna - at number 1 for 7 weeks. You Make Me Wanna deserved number 1. I like Elton Johns songs, but Candle In The Wind IMO wasnt THAT good and the song was just hyped up IMO cause it was Elton John singing and making a comeback or something. Just my thoughts.

July 12 to 26, Thats when Magic Stick was 2, and thats the first 3 weeks of Crazy In Loves number 1 run of 8 weeks. Clay and Ruben came the week before CIL. |
